  • We challenged ourselves to do different type of hikes in Iceland. There are 5 hikes we experienced and we will never forget.
Katla Ice Cave: In the summer, most of Iceland's ice caves aren’t accessible, but Katla Ice Cave is one of the few you can visit year-round. However, it's melting faster than usual. The once large circular entrance has now turned into a massive hole!
Skaftafell Glacier: Glacier hiking was at the top of my must-do list in Iceland. We booked a 4.5-hour tour to explore the glacier in depth, trekking all the way from the base to the peak. The sight of the massive black and blue ice formations is even more breathtaking in person. And the glacier water? Hands down, the best I’ve ever tasted!
Mulagljufur Canyon: This hike quickly became one of my favorites. The fairy-tale-like trails are unforgettable. It’s a hidden gem, and every step feels like uncovering a new secret of Iceland’s wild beauty.
Stuðlagil: This stunning canyon in Iceland is renowned for its towering basalt columns that rise dramatically along the riverbank. There are two ways to visit this incredible attraction: one is a quick stop at the main viewpoint, and the other is a more adventurous hike. We opted for the hike, which offered a much more immersive and rewarding experience compared to just seeing it from the viewpoint.
Hverfjall Volcano: We planned to hike on an active volcano, but it wasn’t possible because an eruption had occurred right before and during our trip, blocking access to the site. However, in Iceland, which is surrounded by volcanoes, you can always find a safe alternative. Hverfjall, the largest crater in Europe, was our choice. I initially thought it might be underwhelming, but it turned out to be much more impressive than expected.
