Just finally pulled out one of my dad's old 7000c have avoided using it since he passed. But figured I would take it out, clean it up and maybe take it out fishing tomorrow.
Very thorough cleaning. I have a couple old reels that click when you reel them. Years ago, it was normal. I'm glad the new reels are silent especially when I'm throwing lures. Hope you catch fish with that reel in the future.
Thank you sir! I agree the clicking can get annoying when casting/retrieving all day! For tossing a bait and soaking it, it's not too bad. I love these old reels, so much fishing fun with them since 1978 😊
I have two of these reels and have also used them since the late 70’s when I was a teenager. I was thinking about putting braid on them. Do you think these old reels would hold up to braid? I have mine on ugly stik 10ft bigwater rods and use them for big blue catfish
Im also a huge fan of the silver series. i have 8 or so 1000c and variants including super sport 1 which is silver but smoother than the regular silver. also several gold series reels. I just picked up a D7000,D4000,D1600 of the regal series that came out right after the gold series with the silent AR (the black ones) and while they're almost identical they dont have the wonderful click we all love and associate with fishing and it also has internal bail trip, but i digress. nothing beats one of these silver series reels

That is what it's all about!

I think you will overload the drag system. If you want to stay in 30lbs braid and just add capacity you will be fine.

They are really good reels! I also have a few 500c and 1000c that I ultralight fish with!
