It was the 2nd most active ATL on record, had the most C5 in the ATL for a single season, having one of the most rapidly intensifying storms in the ATL, as well as having the most intense storm ever recorded for the basin! This was also the first season where Greek letters were used to name storms! Of course, there were some bad effects with this season as well. Dennis, Emily, Katrina, Rita, Stan and Wilma were all destructive storms (although Emily somehow escaped retirement). Katrina was definitely the most notable, its effects are still present today. It caused $125 billion US, tying it with Harvey for the costliest storm on record. Rita worsened conditions for the Gulf and Wilma literally exploded! We can't forget about Dennis and Stan, either. Although overshadowed, they were bad in their own ways. Dennis being very costly for Cuba and Florida, and Stan being deadly storm for Mexico, killing over a 1000.

I was only nine months old when Katrina hit, so as you can imagine, I have gotten my fair share of stories from my family members about the devastation of Katrina. All of them have a story about their personal experiences in one way or another, and all of them involve their lives being changed by the storm. I have family members that had to sleep in FEMA trailers, some that were relocated, and some people I know had their homes completely wiped away, never to be seen again. These storms impact lives, families, and sometimes, even entire generations. I can't begin to express just how impactful Hurricane Katrina was to the people around me, and to me as well. Thank you, for this animation, it's really well done! More people need to learn about hurricanes like these, especially those that change lives, like Katrina and countless others did.
This was the most iconic news coverage ever in the Atlantic Hurricane season, I especially watched Florida’s coverage on Wilma, and Louisiana’s/Texas’ coverage on Katrina and Rita. This was basically the season I became interested in Atlantic especially... One of the best seasons that Force 13 has released! Great Job Nathan, hope that 2020 doesn’t reach the Greek Alphabet.

A week or so after we got power back on, Jeanne made landfall 40 miles north of where I was and the power went out again, this time for over a month. Wilma took out the power again during 2005, but so much of the power infrastructure was brand new from the rebuild after Jeanne that it wasn't out for more than a week or so, if I remember right. There were blue-tarped roofs all over Florida for over a decade after those two seasons. Got lucky that Katrina was barely a cat 1 when it made landfall where I was. Crazy times.

Frances was quite the storm as well. The winds weren't so high, but it moved so slowly as it went over. It took something like 12 hours to fully pass over my house about 5 miles west of Jupiter, FL. It dumped so much rain on us. It used to flood out there pretty bad at times, but even after they improved the drainage, there was an insane amount of water.

i was around 6, almost 7 and living in louisiana during this hurricane season. i still remember some of these names so well and what it was like to live through this.
Wilma was at peak intensity on my 1st birthday.

To think that a tropical system was missed about midway through the season that would have been named, therefore, Wilma would have been Alpha. The strongest Atlantic hurricane on record would have been the very first to use a Greek letter. That would have been something!

I lived thru Katrina in Mississippi... we had 37 foot storm surges. it was fun swimming in my living room. < please note heavy sarcasm
My grandparents live in Metairie, LA and they got lucky their house didn’t get wrecked by Katrina. Took that city quite a few years to fully recover when we visited in the years after.
As of September 15, we are ahead of 2005 by 5 storms. 5.

What scared the crap out of Houston with Rita is at one point, Rita was the third most intense Atlantic storm at its peak (before it got knocked down to 4th just a month later).
