Almost everything this man said is verifiably false
Propagandists don't care about facts.
Can you explain why, with some examples? A serious question.
2 small ones off the top of my head: he says people believe that high ranking Nazis may have escaped to South America. There's no "may have" about it; several did, and at least one (Eichmann) was captured & put on trial in Israel in the early 1960s. Second, Eva Braun wasn't "the closest thing Hitler had to a girlfriend." She was his mistress for years & they got married the day before they died
@@deetee4403I mean I’ll hop at two things off the bat. His idea that WWII didn’t unite the country is kinda false. You’ll never have an entire nation 100% agree, but there was a poll done in 1944 I believe where 90% of Americans felt patriotic to the cause. Economy boomed and it was one of the first times returning troops were greeted with organized celebrations. Also his statements about blitzkrieg. Germans never even referred to their fighting style w that word and it was a common strategy throughout history even touching to napoleons fighting style of “living off the land” etc. just a few things that seem to be more opinionated and dishonest in his list imo
@@Jshmoney24 ok, that's more research to be done for me 😉
You describe Eva Braun as "...the closest thing he had to a girlfriend." She was, in fact, his wife. They were married the day before they died.
It seems as though the writer couldn't be bothered to look that up. He was too busy shitting on the USA.
Your opinions on the nuclear bombings is flawed based on the actual history. Clearly you havent taken into account that even after the emperor said to surrender the army wanted to fight on. They even tried to committ a coup. I guess you didnt read that part of history. In addition to that, the japenese did indeed fight to the last man on many islands. Finally, the people of Okinawa jumped off cliffs to avoid capture.
On a side note, exactly how beaten does someone have to be before they surrender? Clearly until we dropped the nukes, japan hadnt reached that point.
This video is a laughtable attempt to re-write history to suit the writes world view.
Could not have said it better. This guy is no historian.
In the end they surrender because of a combination of factors, one being the nukes, another being the soviets declaring war (the Japanese government hoped they would remain neutral), the fact that the Emperor of Japan was allowed to keep his throne (as a ceremonial monarch) and I think a few other smaller reasons. All of this made them surrender, and anyone that says its either only the nukes or the nukes had no effect is cherry picking.
@@MrBigfootus Not at all. Even before the USSR invasion, they knew that defeat was inevitable. The Japanese government & emperor himself said it was because of the bombs. Despite that, the military still wanted to continue to fight to the point of even a failed coup. They were willing to hold out unless they could be given indirect guarantees that the emperor would remain on the throne.
@@MrBigfootus No American/Allied invasion of the home islands or Soviet invasion of non Japanese lands would deter them as exemplified by their willingness to fight to the last person. The defense of the home islands was called, "the glorious death of 100 million" yeah...... Those in power were not deterred and were willing to sacrifice everyone.
The Emperor of Japan said the atomic bomb and the Soviets invasion pushed him to surrender.
And im out.
OK. I have always liked this show, but the propaganda you are spouting against the atomic bombings is unconscionable. Whoever wrote that little bit hasn’t studied history at all. What about Okinawa? What about the nearly entire civilian population, jumping off the cliffs? This really burns me up, because my father was definitely saved by those atomic bombs. He would’ve had to fight them to the death over Japan. This is the clear CLEAR lesson of history. I suggest you do some reading.
I TOTALLY AGREE! It seems as though the writing team has a decidedly anti-USA bias. The last Top Tenz video I watched had a similar left-wing, spin. I used to like this channel when Simon ran it. He didn't let his political views spill over into the program. If other people are upset about the way this channel has changed, I suggest that they stop subscribing. I know I will.
@@fr2ncm9 lmao Simon's political bias is super obvious in his videos
@eifelitorn yeah, but at least he reports facts and then gives his biased opinion like most of us do. This guy is just outright lying.
The top 10 misconceptions are what this man is trying to Pedal his truth.
3:52 well, there was that Japanese soldier in the Philippines, who refused to believe the war had ended for like 30 years
A common misconception is when lots of people falsely believe an objective fact. Not when you disagree with a commonly held perspective or opinion.
1 Not a huge fan of this host. Karl was a better host, more character and more animation in the video. This guy seems like he's phoning it in and doesn't really care. Other videos he has done are equally phoned in.
2 I'm pretty impressed at the inaccuracies in this. Clearly not well researched, definitely had a huge agenda, and very much ignoring a lot of historical details. I expect this from some other channels, but TopTenz has normally been well above it. This one is really bad.
3 Here's a great example. After committed suicide, his body was burned and basically destroyed. There was no body found, and many weren't sure he was actually dead. All the Soviets found as far as remains go were some bone fragments - including part of a jaw bone. There wasn't enough to match with dental records at the time. The Soviets put the bones in a box and lost them for decades. It wasn't until the early 21st century that the box was found and DNA in the bones was extracted and compared to DNA of Hitler's surviving relatives, which confirmed it was his body. Even cursory research would say the Nazis burned Hitler's body, but the writer didn't bother to do that much. The whole video is equally "well-written" and "factual".
Ufda. I wish you had some citations for some of these claims.
Hot air??? I think you need to revisit the war crimes of Japan before you pass judgment and claim America’s response was not justified. For example the Empire of Japan, executed over 250,000 Chinese in retaliation of the Dolittle raid.
From the invasion of China in 1937 to the end of World War II, the Japanese military regime murdered near 3,000,000 to over 10,000,000 people (Rummel, 1997)
Right
It's amazing how Japan escaped their atrocities. Revisionist history.
@@brandonlm0125 But, the U.S. was the real criminal for bombing a helpless country. *sarcasm*
Where's Smallwood? I liked that guy.
Same. He was really growing on me.
The reason the Japanese are talked about as if they would fight to the last man is because they were fighting to the last man and they did that alot. Nit just fighting to the last man, but were honored to give their lives in defense of their home land. Kamikaze pilots and that's all I'll say bout that. Now the dropping the Atomin Bombs were more for a show of power to the Russians than it was a tool to make Japan surrender. It certainly helped to when it came getting Japan to surrender and even when surrendered their was an attempted Coup to kidnap the emperor and keep the war going.
Seems like Karl isn’t really on Holiday. Too bad.
He needs called back asap.
Kal sucks. And he says an R at the end of everything. Even words that don't end in R. Except he ignores the R in his own name.
@@joshuagibson2520 he’s a Brit genius they all do that with words & names that end in an a, they said r.
Here are 10 things virtually no one believes. Enjoy.
Regarding the nukes, the case is more complicated.
First, it was exactly the firebombing of Tokyo that caused Emperor to start seeking way to end the war. Having witnessed the devastation, he became feeling sorry for the plight of his subjects. Strange as it may seem, it seems guilty conscience of one man has helped end the war...
Second, while the nukes didn't tip the scales of the decision, they made perfect excuse for the decision.
Japan could call them unprecedented and inhumane, different from previous bombings, so as to sell the decision to the population.
Also, they made perfect opportunity for the Emperor to ask the military "Can you gauarantee to shoot down EVERY enemy plane?" (Which of course , they could not).
As for the Soviets, they were less issue than you suggested. (And they sold in their propaganda).
They did manage to defeat and destroy the Kwantung army in Northern China, which was indeed biggest Japanese army outside home islands.
But, Soviets lacked the fleet to invade Japan - and Japan lacked the fleet to transport Kwantung army to home islands.
So in the end Soviets were irrelevant to invading home islands.
From 1941 through 1945, the U.S. sent $11.3 billion, or $180 billion in 2016 dollars, in goods and services to the Soviets (US Mission Italy, 2023). There was even a lend-lease museum in Russia dedicated to demonstrating the massive impact allied assistance played for Russia, but Ofcourse it was closed down. Point being, naked men with sticks would not have taken an inch of territory in any country or island.
@@brandonlm0125 I didn't know that in modern dollar terms and the thing about the Russia museum. Thank you for the info.
Japan woke 'The Sleeping Giant'. THEY even said it.
Will not be watching top 10s anymore. Not because of Simon, though long live the blaze, but this is a very poor telling of history and some of it is blatantly anti-american.
It’s lost its soul
This is such an odd video. I'm just going to chalk this up as basically an Axis powers apologist video.
"Axis powers apologist video" You hit the nail right on the head; that's exactly what a lot of this video is!
The bombs did make the difference in ending the Japanese wars... America wasn't the only country firebombing Japan... and without the bombs it's estimated the war would have carried on another couple years at least ... so yes a couple hundred thousand lives likely saved it from being a couple million more... not every last person in Japan, but a lot.
Got nothing against Eric, as he's just the presenter, but this Gregory guy has got one wacky script.
I have a picture I wanted to post here. I will describe it to you. About a dozen small plates and bowls from Okinawa. My grandfather-in-law brought them home as “spoils of war.” He was in one of the first groups of US soldiers to set foot on the island after its defeat. Where were the civilian owners of the dishes? Dead, at the base of the cliffs. The whole civilian population killed themselves when their military were killed in the attack. So don’t lecture us that the atomic bombing was immoral. REPUTABLE scholars are in agreement that the dropping of those bombs saved millions of lives - mostly the lives of Japanese civilians.
Thank you for sharing ❤.
Stealing is bad!
@@reggiep75 the owners were dead. So were their kids. No one was claiming it. It is a witness to the fools of this generation who refuse to face reality and think they can change human nature by “pretending really hard.”
“Common decency” and our accepted morality is not common or accepted elsewhere in the world.
I read somewhere that 4% of the sand of Normandy is still remnants of stuff from D-day
I'm sad the scripts and videos have really gone down lately.
They are not going to get any better. This channel now has a left-wing, anti-USA, anti-west bias. I've been a subscriber for years. Tonight, I'm ending my subscription.
The Japanese still don't own up to their crimes in Asia today. They were on the shores of Australia and close to NZ and other small Pacific Islands for goodness sakes! I'm glad the younger generation of Japan realise this but its like your undermining the millions that were raped and butchered by the Japanese over years compared to two bombs.
This is alot terrible and false reinterpretation of history especially when it came to Japan. I don't remember TopTenz having blatant propaganda videos.
Pearl Harbor: That day (evening to much of America) most people went to bed knowing of the attack with no understanding as to what happened.
Most memories and Hollywood get it wrong. It was the morning of the next day that the nation felt like it was kicked in the gut, not that day.
We had had two attacks on American ships by the Germans earlier, and most understood that the USA and Japan were hostile towards each other.
So when the news hit, most envisioned it as an attack on an American ship at Pearl Harbor. The news would take half a day (night on the Eastcoast) to trickle in.
On the radio, only one station interrupted its broadcasting to announce the event, but then went back to its regular programming anyway. The other stations saved it for the evening news broadcast.
Now, on the morning of June 6th, 1944, Normandy Invasion, the entire nation, woke to a stopped nation with everyone tuned into their radios, praying.
The absolute solidarity we often attribute to December 7th, 1941, really didn't happen the way Hollywood tells it.
That solidarity was there in spades across American on June 6th, 1944.
Whoever wrote this script has never heard of Operation Downfall, and it shows.
Thank you for your opinions. Unfortunately, all those sounding authoritative, your comments on the atomic bombings are deeply flawed. As Richard Franke and his definitive studies has demonstrated from original documents and cooperation with international scholars more people were being killed by the Japanese in their occupied territories in days than were lost in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Further it was not hundreds of thousands who died in those bombings. The records of the Japanese indicate that a significant number of the Japanese leaders including the Emperor wanted to end the war and they saw the bombs as that reason as the Emperor declared in his announcement.. Given the murderous rampage of the Soviets throughout their appalling history, I'm not sure giving them opportunity to kill more hundreds of thousands of people would have been particularly humane. More and better research would help... Thanks!
"By the end of 1945, the bombing had killed an estimated 140,000 people in Hiroshima, and a further 74,000 in Nagasaki. In the years that followed, many of the survivors would face leukemia, cancer, or other terrible side effects from the radiation."
You are right, was not hundred of thousands , was a couple hundred of thousand.
Also killing a couple of hundred thousand of random people... Uffff
🤡
@@oThDeth “From the invasion of China in 1937 to the end of World War II, the Japanese military regime murdered near 3,000,000 to over 10,000,000 people” (Rummel, 1997).
@@oThDeth It was random, the cities were military-industrial hubs with civilian workers supporting the war effort & the areas that were bombed were legitimate targets.
And the comments listed about Germany’s lack of destruction of France and their lack of control of the French is completely off base. Recheck your sources please. Or find some perhaps. And British resistance through sheer will, that “stiff upper lip”, and the blessing that is the English Channel is falsely downplayed sirs
You had me until you pronounced Mengele as "men-gel". It's "Men-geh-leh".
Albert Einstein helped the US in their research to build nuclear weapons. I don’t remember his exact role but his thinking was the US was the lesser of two evils. He did write a letter warning of what Germany was working on. He later regretted his role in it all together because of the utter devastation. The US actually blew up a ferry in Norway (I think) that was transporting heavy water for the purpose of Germany’s development of those weapons. So they knew what Germany was on to.
He was never apart of the Manhattan Project, his role came decades earlier when he published Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content? in 1905, which had E=mc2.
In fact Einstein was personally involved with the Project to stop any further expansion of the regime that had caused the death of so many of his Jewish countrymen. However, by the time of the atomic bombs readiness, the need for it to stop the Axis Powers was moot. And Japan had yet to refused to surrender, even when warned by the US that there was a new weapon of great power and destruction in readiness. Japan yet refused surrender. And again of Hiroshima
@@FortisKnight Einstein wasn’t personally involved in the Manhattan Project at all, all he did was signing a letter written by Leo Szilard to President Roosevelt urging him to take action because the Germans might produce an atomic bomb. This led Roosevelt to start the Manhattan Project, but Einstein had no involvement in the project, nor was he privy to any information about it.
Oof. This one is brutal. Very sparse on facts and heavy on agenda.
I want Carl.
To me this is a failed attempt to rewrite history.
10:27 I thought the posters were up around town during the blitz
Hopefully this is the last script Gregory writes for this channel. Poorly researched, there is a definite agenda, and some of it is just flat out false.
Is Karl still doing videos?
I like the host. He's a bit off for TopTenz but i could get used to it. This script can be summed up in two words.
Pretentious, pedantic.
Information erroneous and I don’t understand how this guy got this job?
I'm guessing that Eric is the full time host for TopTenz and Biographics now. Looks like Karl was only interim host.
Shame. He's unbelievably boring and lacks any kind of charisma
@@cleverusername9369 Recently learned that Karl is now a script editor for TopTenz, Biographics, and Geographics. I think he prefers the role behind the camera, but I'm a Fact Fiend fan, and like seeing him on camera.
Stop adding annoying and irritating background music. It's makes it so hard so understand what you are saying. Music is not needed for educational video's
What happened to Simon? what did I miss
Simon has been gone for a while now. If you dig in the archive, there's a video explaining the split between Simon and the owners of TopTenz and Biographics.
The egghead got his shell cracked open
@@Jobe00 dang
Is it impossible for this guy to keep his head still?
YIKES!!! History is not your forte!
Well done Top Tenz, I am no longer subscribed
You had no business making this video. So many fallacies and misrepresentations
i'm your interim viewer
Top Tenz are awesome! Suggestion: Most delicious foods in the UK. 😋😋😋🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
And Karl with a “K”?
Maaan this video is basically this guy stroking his bias all over and claiming it as fact, horrible video
Most of these are exactly how they are taught in school... my school anyway, so the history books (which is electronic , now) have been fixed.
It's one thing to bring up facts and then voice your opinion. These were just outright lies for the most part.
I can't believe this guy thinks hes some sort of enlightened history scholar. Dude couldnt even pronounce Mengle.
Wow this guy thinks that a country that promotes freedom of speech is diverse in opinions 😮
Also hows is blitzkrieg a "dirty trick" it's freaking war my dude
Another thing the atomic bombs while not being the only factor was still a major factor in Japan surrendering among others of course, even the emperor of Japan specifically states the destructive power of the atomic bombs in his surrender speech
Another thing japanese soldiers did in fact had a strong belief that surrender was not an option, you even hear stories of how Japanese soldiers would deliberately do a suici*e charge. Its called a banzai attack maybe you've heard of it
Just got a little anti America vide from you, we all have bias but when it comes to history it's important to acknowledge bias and work around it for historical accuracy. Unless you do that you lost credibility
Really miss Karl no offence to the other hosts but they don’t engage me
nice dislikes ratio
Your take on the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is one of the worst I've ever heard.
The only revisionist history taking place is yours. Even the emperor of Japan stated that the atomic bomb was a reason for their surrender.
Man this video is bad no wonder Simon stopped working for these people
Thanks.
They need to do better research, this channel has really fallen off since Simon left as host, how are they this bad at research
Came to the comments for the sour apples pearl-clutching crowd and was not dissapointed.
I would bet my last quarter that Mr. Eric has READ (and probably SEEN but I am referring more to the book than the movie) Starship Troopers....... that makes this man a bigger expert on Facism/Naziism than most of us (and yes I know he's just reading a script but again, he's an author, if he can read someone else's script without dying of laughter, he rawks)
Nevermind the criticisms Eric, I haven't missed a Bio/Geo/TopTenz yet, I admit I liked Karl but I think you are doing well also =D
**edit, no disrespect to the writer, just see comments wishing back one or both of the Brit hosts, I simply say this American is just as qualified 🙂
I'm not a MAGA person but your comments regarding the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki sound like progressive political claptrap. 3:58 -4:13 sounds like USA bashing 101. It was estimated that a ground invasion of Japan would have cost up to a million lives. I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision for Truman to make, but, in the end, he made the decision to force Japan's hand and end the war with as little loss of life as possible.
The estimates for casualties for an invasion of mainland Japan were much higher than 1 million. It was estimated that there would be 1 million us casualties taking the beaches alone.
@@justincredubil That's just American propaganda. We all know that the reason why the U.S. dropped the A-bombs is because we are evil.
Not a fan of the style and language in this particular video.
Most of these are just made up misconceptions 🤦♂️ you're making stuff up and arguing it
It is truly amazing how ignorant you are about history.
I will never apologize for the atomic bombs, because I was -27 years old. The United States helped rebuild Japan and gave them $$$. I'm not sorry.
Didn't like this video. Too many factual errors and a desire to re-write history. Shame.
Is this guy the regular presenter now? I have not watched for a long time as i could not stomach the cringe Karl Smallwood but will start clicking on videos again if hes gone!
Why aren’t you British?
complains about revisionist history, while revising history from actual facts. What a poorly researched hatch job of history. Eric Malikyte needs to be cancelled for being the very thing he complained about, but that is the logic of this sub human level of thinking.
This guy is just a delusional soviet apologist. the amount of unnecessary American hatred in this video is mind boggling. like how do you go from nazi control over France to the Iraq situation. and calling blitzkrieg a "Dirty trick" and how the Soviets easily defeated it. yeah I'm out
Man this is a brutal and inexcusably poor take on history. Almost everything said by this man and the script writer is false. Please everyone go read books from real historians not watch videos from uneducated clickbait artists like this man.
This whole video is hardcore 👃 cope
lol this is laughable
11. WW2 was not about Jewish people. If it were, it would have raised questions as to why the Germans were in Northern Africa. Truth is, they were trying to expand like all conquerors did prior and failed from thinning themselves out. Like the old saying goes: "Greedy, greedy makes a hungry puppy."
12. WW2 was not about xenophobic. If they were, they wouldn't have befriended Japan and Italy.
Jews seem to think ww2 was all about them. It’s disgusting
This is a poorly researched video with lots of false information
This script is very bad sorry
Wow haven’t watched this channel for a very long time. Can see why the view count is so low. Hope Simons not paying this boring mono toned joke.
... just delete this video honestly. It's spreading misinformation.
