I think the reversible jacket probably needs to be put on with the opening at the front, so it’s more of an oversized jacket and less of a weird poofy jumper 🤣🤣🤣 (I’m with you tho!! I was a plushie kid, I hated dolls growing up ahaha)
Expect nothing from Mattel! As a longtime Barbie -collrctor, I can tell you that Mattelnis cutting alot of corners lately, like the last 5-years or so, their quality of dolls have gone waaaayyyyy down.
Absolutely have. They're a waste of money. The dolls 30 yrs ago are way way way more better. The clothes had belts and stuff on them and just was way more fun and different. It's a shame it's gotten worse then better

Today everything is low quality printed on, and lazy, many times a piece of clothing only have orints on the front and the back is just a solid color.
But that's exactly how kids would do it. Or put it in the freezer. lol Boiling water was the hardest to convince them it wasn't such a great idea. Quickest way but not the safest.

Personally I have the cat doll, and I really do enjoy it. I flip the jumper into an oversized coat and it looks way better. Mattel did lie about the “surprises” and I definitely think there overpriced. But I will admit with the jumper as a jacket she looks way cuter

Actually, Barbies in the '50s and '60s were higher quality. The clothes had details like working zippers and were very well made. Also, Mattel made high-end collector Barbies, especially in the 1990s and 2000s. I agree that recently the quality isn't as good!
I feel like Mattel's products have really gone down hill the last few years. I've been collecting fashion dolls all my life and I would say that companies like MGA have really stepped up there game with the quality of dolls and accessories.
We got spoiled with monster high though and have high hopes for Mattel to make its comeback with the new movie and series of dolls. In comparison to MGA rainbow high we know what fashion dolls can be but then we get cheap quality over quantity in price comparison, the price for this versus RH I'd choose rainbow high over barbie reveals

Full head of hair, they are fully poseable, with inset eye, real wimpers and a dollstand. I really love them. And they are the same prize as these barbies.
So in case anyone’s curious about the suit’s head/pet situation, the back of the head dents in to create a pet bed for the pet. Honestly I did the same thing Jackie did when I first got one 😂

Yeah, I think they're counting the pieces of the fursuit as separate 'surprises'. Head, shirt, pants, hands, feet = 5. And then the items in the bags. Companion, shoes, headband, comb, skirt = 5. A lot of mystery toys have been doing that to make it seem like you're getting more than you actually are. I even remember one line (Capsule chix, maybe?) That advertised something like "60+ pieces inside!" but it was counting the plastic balls the bits came in as 'surprises'. And each ball counted as 2 because they came apart. So in reality it was only something like 50 actual doll pieces. Very misleading.
I had Barbie’s growing up and my daughter has them as well. The shoes have always been a solid color. Regular Barbie’s are about $5-$8 US so yeah those are quite overpriced. I agree about the “surprise” business.

I always wanted to play with dolls when I was a little kid, but my parents did not let me do that because I'm a boy.... In the future if my child wants to play with dolls I will buy them, regardless of their gender :)
I didn’t like barbies as a kid because they had almost no articulation. There’s only so much you can do with a doll that doesn’t have elbow joints. I mostly used them to play Frankenstein with play dough. Then a couple years ago, I saw people doing doll customizations and thought “hey that’s kinda cool. I wanna try!” And then I somehow got a made-to-move Barbie on clearance, and was blown away by how I could make her give hugs and hold things. And stand up without one of those doll-easel-stand things. Wish I had one of these as a kid, I might have actually used it as intended.
I had a barbie with elbow joints as a kid. Barbies did (and still do) have varying levels of articulation with more expensive barbies being more articulated. I only had the one elbow-jointed barbie, but she was my favourite. She had a fancy neck joint too, which I only found out after somebody broke her head off. I still don't know who did it, but I was devastated because I couldn't pop her head back on like with the cheaper barbies that often just had a ball that kept the head on. I would have def loved a made-to-move barbie like kids have now though. They look so good!
That’s why I was always so frustrated with them as a kid, I had 1 articulated Barbie towards the end of playing and my dog ate her hands :’( Stopped with them after that.

I was terrified of them and they came out when i was a little older. I was HORRIFIED of Gizmo (yes the cute gremlin) and my friend had the furby that was made to look like him and it gave me nightmares...
I was older, too, when the furbys came out. We had one that we said was possessed. It still talked after we took the batteries out and years after we first got it. Creepy!

My uncle worked at Mattel, so I had a lot of Barbie’s despite not wanting any. I did, however, often get horse riding Barbie, or Barbie with a dog, ect. At which point I would promptly toss Barbie in the closet and play with the horsies and puppies. Also me and my brother used the Barbie dream house as a base of operations for our super hero toys
Porcelain dolls have always freaked me out. Especially the ones sitting in the wicker chairs… you know what I mean? My grandma even had to put the one she had in her living room away into the back room because I would just started screaming and crying as soon as I saw it 🤭. Love from Belgium xoxo

The scariest "toy" we had was probably a china doll that my grandmother got my younger sister. It was really expensive, standing at 2-3 ft, was hand-crafted, and had glass eyes and real hair. The thing looks like an actual toddler. My sister, who was about 4-5 at the time, freaked out. I freaked out. My mom freaked out. It now lives in the attic, where it is safe from exposure... and where nobody can see it. I don't know what got into Grandma. She isn't rich, and my younger sister doesn't care much for china dolls (even if we both have collections, I was always more into them than she was). I don't even know how she expected us to display it, given it's size.

I took a forensic science class in high school, and we had a project where we had to create a diorama of a murder scene with a barbie and explain how we knew how she died 😂
The weirdest toy I was given was a hand puppet of the devil (yes, that devil) by my dad. It was weird because my parents were sending me to Catholic school and I was supposed to believe the devil was real. It terrified me but I had to pretend I liked it (I would get in trouble for not acting like I liked a gift) and the whole experience was a real freak out. Adult me would use it in puppet theater now.
It's long gone now but it wasn't any cute toddler in a diaper like Hot Stuff (friend of Casper the ghost). It looked like an adult actor playing the devil himself. Scary.
As a kid I could not STAND Diva Stars or Bratz. I loved other dolls though growing up. I had so many Anne Geddes dolls as a child, and I wish I still had them. I actually saw these Barbies a few months ago, and got the rabbit one. I stumbled upon them while looking into making custom fursuits for custom dolls. I love her so much.
I had a Dora doll that one night, sat in the corner of my room in a stroller. Scared me so much I asked my dad to take it out my room lol. Something about the big eyes and shape of the doll just spooked me.
Wha??? Mattel has outed Barbie as a Furry??? Color me shocked! FYI: My sister collects the Holiday Barbie each year. They list at $49.44 USD, but you can usually find them for $39.99 so this one is in line with that "special" Barbie.
Probably others have already said this, but jacket is probably supposed to go the other way round. Also, in my memory (I was forced to have a lot of Barbie dolls growing up) they weren't supposed to be able to stand up. They actually made stands specially for those dolls. When my sisters played with Barbie dolls, they used to come with a little clear base you could fasten their waists into to pose them standing up. I find it funny that they didn't include a themed purse instead of the little companion...but the companions are pretty cute. As for the toys I liked, I was into building-toys, drawing, colouring, and action figures.
Creepiest toy I’ve ever seen, when I was a child my sister received a pregnant barbie doll with a removable new born…. to get it out the baby bump spun like a rotating door…. I thought that’s how babies were born for a few years
When I was a kid, my brother had figures from a show called Little Robots. The show (and obviously the figures) freaked me out for absolutely no actual reason. Also, these dolls called Lalaloopsy were horrifying when I was younger.
Playing with BJD’s most of the time, getting a Barbie again made me realize how small their feet are. Mattel really disappoints me though. Their new dolls are nothing like the 🐨☕️ quality dolls we got when I was a kid. I’m almost 30, so this was a while back though 😆 the Barbie Looks line is my favourite lately, although they’re expensive for what they are.
I can't get over the price. I'm not a doll person either but when Barbie came out with that more inclusive body type line I bought one on a whim. I paid around $10. Costume or not $45 is ridiculous for a Barbie.

Weird thing is, I remember my parents not being all that enthusiastic about dolls. They always got me LEGO and some plushies. Because of this, my little kid brain thought: "If my parents aren't gonna get me dolls, I *suddenly* want a Barbie"
When I was a kid i had ALOT of dolls but mostly barbies. The shoes had almost always only one color. I wish they would have put more details like shoelaces or a pattern.And this Barbie was really expencive if you compare to the price of a normal Barbie. I do like how the undergarments are not just sculpted on the dolls, but are also painted. At least they got that detail right for once.

My uncle worked at Mattel, so I had a lot of Barbie’s despite not wanting any. I did, however, often get horse riding Barbie, or Barbie with a dog, ect. At which point I would promptly toss Barbie in the closet and play with the horsies and puppies.
Also me and my brother used the Barbie dream house as a base of operations for our super hero toys

The scariest "toy" we had was probably a china doll that my grandmother got my younger sister. It was really expensive, standing at 2-3 ft, was hand-crafted, and had glass eyes and real hair. The thing looks like an actual toddler. My sister, who was about 4-5 at the time, freaked out. I freaked out. My mom freaked out. It now lives in the attic, where it is safe from exposure... and where nobody can see it.
I don't know what got into Grandma. She isn't rich, and my younger sister doesn't care much for china dolls (even if we both have collections, I was always more into them than she was). I don't even know how she expected us to display it, given it's size.

The weirdest toy I was given was a hand puppet of the devil (yes, that devil) by my dad. It was weird because my parents were sending me to Catholic school and I was supposed to believe the devil was real. It terrified me but I had to pretend I liked it (I would get in trouble for not acting like I liked a gift) and the whole experience was a real freak out.
Adult me would use it in puppet theater now.

As a kid I could not STAND Diva Stars or Bratz. I loved other dolls though growing up. I had so many Anne Geddes dolls as a child, and I wish I still had them. I actually saw these Barbies a few months ago, and got the rabbit one. I stumbled upon them while looking into making custom fursuits for custom dolls. I love her so much.

I had a Dora doll that one night, sat in the corner of my room in a stroller. Scared me so much I asked my dad to take it out my room lol. Something about the big eyes and shape of the doll just spooked me.

When my sisters played with Barbie dolls, they used to come with a little clear base you could fasten their waists into to pose them standing up.
I find it funny that they didn't include a themed purse instead of the little companion...but the companions are pretty cute.

Playing with BJD’s most of the time, getting a Barbie again made me realize how small their feet are. Mattel really disappoints me though. Their new dolls are nothing like the 🐨☕️ quality dolls we got when I was a kid. I’m almost 30, so this was a while back though 😆 the Barbie Looks line is my favourite lately, although they’re expensive for what they are.
I can't get over the price. I'm not a doll person either but when Barbie came out with that more inclusive body type line I bought one on a whim. I paid around $10. Costume or not $45 is ridiculous for a Barbie.
