  • This Franklin Sewing machine was made by the Domestic Sewing Machine co and sold by Sears, they were actually a copy of the Singer model 27 and take the same needles and bobbins and shuttle. I am testing it out for free motion quilting

Thank you, Tim. I bought a treadle machine that sat in the props department of a Theatre for 50 years. Turns out it was purchased by a woman in 1910-1911 from the T. Eaton Co, Toronto, On, Canada and branded as Reliable and manufactured in Cleveland, Ohio by Domestic sewing machine co. I looked at the Franklins but thought my machine reminded more of the Singer 27s. You have confirmed my diagnosis and as a newbie at vintage machines, I was reluctant to trust my judgement. You've made my day! Love all your tutorials showing and using different older machines.

All I can say is WOW! I love watching your work! Hoping to get an old Singer Treadle up and running this summer. Incredible hand quilting on these treadles... I didn’t even know it was possible.

I have a National, about 1900, that belonged to my Grandmother. Restoring it now. Looks very much like the Franklin, except that the thread tension is mounted on the front of the head, not the side. Looking forward to trying your techniques soon. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

I have a 1911 Franklin treddle. I'm still trying to learn how to get it to work. Thanks to you I've learned so much. I'm still working on the shuttle bobbin. I think I'm almost ready for some test fabric. Thank you. If you can share more about the Franklin I would be very grateful. Looking forward to quilting on it.

You STILL inspire me. Learning to FMQ on a Treadle is on my list of things to learn. I do hope you are ok. You are missed on the web.

We had a early Franklin electric from the early 20’s it was made for Sears by the white sewing company because it used the white rotary bobbins . It was funny because the faster it sewed the smaller the stitch became .

Will the handwheel interchange w/ a Singer and will the treadle cabinet take a Singer?

I’m not seeing any safety pins or basting stitches. How do you keep the quilt layers together.

Something is really off with the sound starting around the one minute mark.
