The very highly requested Bleach Character analysis of Hollow Ichigo is here! In this video I try my best to explain why Hollow Ichigo behaves the way that he does. What exactly causes him to be so psychotic, and threatens Ichigo throughout the series. Also explaining the reason behind his interruptions during Ichigo’s battles against: Byakuya, Grimmjow and Ulquiorra.

Hollow Ichigo was the only one in the series who didn't lie or keep information from him. He told ichigo that he was Zangetsu. Ultimately he wanted to protect ichigo as well. In the tensa Zangetsu form you see both spirits crying.

I still think white zangetsu when the hollow isnt beating the quincy for conflict in a different fight so that then some crazy transformation and cero coloured getsuga's which lack the blacker reiatsu which would only have the red more visible when it was just the hollow side in control and not getting input or direction from Quincy Zangetsu who I dont believe "ISN'T Reeeallllly Zangetsu" just because his physical form is essentially young Ywach with a bit more openmindedness and curiosity and fascination like he doesnt think hes the grandest most powerful being so he can just take over everything and end White, because MAYBE NEITHER can live if the other doesnt which would negate the idea of ichigo losing all his quincy potential and Ywach based reiatsu that was a big part of his reiatsu and now its JUST all getsugas that look Only like Ceros from thereon out.... It is interesting that his zanpaktou spirits ARE essentially IMPROVED versions of the beings that Ended his Mother's life, which though White isnt properly killed and doesnt absorb Ichigo but instead he his a Servant to Ichigo like a Horse riding him the best way possible when hes trying to do dumb shit and nearly dies and hollow powers temporarily take over so he can get Regeneration and all the rest cause White Zangetsu would Rather NOT die, and Maybe both Zangetsus are excited about Actually Defeating Ywach using the knowledge techniques, wisdom and talents along with shared spirit energy from the most powerful shinigami in the eastern sereitei so theyd combat godly quincy whose taken all the quincy and soul reaper powers and the soul king powers and so on and ONLY aizen atoning for his past evil to help Ichigo REALLY comes in clutch.... and but besides that part I think the complexity of Zangetsu is that I see him as a Zanpaktou spirit that due to the nature of the inherent powers, chose to manifest as two different entities, one which is Ichigo Turning into White and the other is basically Ichigo if he was Zangetsus grandchild kind of and thats why you have two VERY differently themed Zangetsu characters and its mystery and uncertainty which i love that he didnt give all his thoughts and now were finally gona get the ending animated but MAYBE Kubo is allowed to ADD Everything that WASNT ALLOWED IN because of a forced cutoff date and so on which generally changes how the mangaka can tell their story IF it even IS THEIR STORY AS the Mangaka WOULD write it but now im ramblin.. checking my bleach games cause why give us a really good game when they maybe nearly accomplshed this several consoles back...hehehe but its all potential thatd be great if they dont try to make everything into overpriced DLC for a mobile game which is how gacha games work generally... but actually finishing the continuity of the development of the characters cant be impossible to earn within time frames appropriate for f2p players.... and def there at that point where its pissed you Only spent 20 dollars whenthere was a crazy sale and you had more money without world shutdown.... worlds always a mess though but this is next level bullshit now.. the so called real world as it stands today falling apart as theyd planned biiiiiig thumbs down on all that.... : /

One thing I love is how willing Zangetsu was to playing the internal villain. We literally see him play as the 'internal interloper' when the Old Man first called him out. He was violent, crude, and was an all around brutal teacher who laughed maniacally. But when Ichigo was gone? Dude was chill as all hell, and even seemed to be thankful to the Old Man when that guy literally stole his name and place. Zangetsu seemed to even get along with the old man, and further played the villain role when Byakuya asked him for his name, and he replied "I have no name." The foreshadowing has always been there even down to the design, Tensa Zangetsu's chain on the end of the hilt is literally a broken chain, the VERY thing that signifies a soul is turning into a Hollow. Man literally planned this shit from the start.

I think what really doesn’t help is the anime only filler zanpaktou arc. We see everyone lose their zanpaktou spirits and the one Ichigo loses is the old man. Even with the bankai doll it was old man Zangetsu that manifested too. It’s really only when you take a step back and look at all of their encounters that you realize hollow Zangetsu always beat on Ichigo easily in their fights but never actually outright beat him. Hollow Zangetsu always took the fights at his own pace, talking during the fights and questioning Ichigo about the things he is struggling with. Ichigo even admits that he learns all of his technique by copying HZangetsu. Someone else even pointed out that the broken chain of his bankai is the same as a hollow’s broken chain like when he was in the shattered shaft. It’s a real shame Kubo didn’t get to finish it like he wanted, if he did maybe then we could have seen him really use his full powers with a mix of his Quincy side as well.
A theory I have is that Old Man Zangetsu modified Mugetsu to act similar to Letz Still to use up all of Ichigo’s power. Isshin claims to know the cost of the technique yet he’s never able to use it since he failed to learn it in the first place. My theory is that for Isshin it would have severely depleted his power to make him no better than a plus soul while his power would have to recuperate over decades/centuries which would leave him in a weakened state and probably cut off from his zanpaktou like Ichigo was, and if engetsu is similar to Zangetsu then he wouldn’t have wanted Isshin in such a vulnerable state.
But, Ichigo differs from Isshin in the fact that he had a Quincy spirit who had no problem modifying Ichigo’s power as it saw fit. When the truth comes out we find out that QZangetsu was able to suppress Ichigo’s power from the very beginning. His sword has been nothing but a reishi weapon like any other Quincy. Is it really so far fetched to think he could have turn a technique into a Letz Still?

The thing I loved about this sub plot is, every time Hollow Zangetsu meets Ichigo, he always treats him with respect, calling him his name: "Ichigo", or "Your Majesty", or simply "Partner". Though he acts the villain, he never actually disrespects Ichigo when talking to him. It's a nice, subtle touch. Also, when training to control his Hollowfication, it's shown through the immense difference between the power of their respective uses of Getsuga, that if Hollow Zangetsu was really adamant about beating Ichigo and taking over his body, he could have. Easily. Yet what does he do? Takes "breaks" between the action and talks with Ichigo, giving his wielder time to let the "lesson" sink in.
Though everyone gives Kubo shit for writing a "weak story", the Ichigo and Quincy/Hollow Zangetsu sub plot blows just about everything else out there out of the fucking water. It's a sub plot that was given proper time to develop, done in a natural way with literary subterfuge, and a twist at the end that makes you go back and look for the foreshadowing, only to kick yourself for not noticing it sooner.

Similar how Naruto was to the Kurama but the fox had no interest to have Naruto be strong, rather he wanted freedom and leave Naruto to dust. Its completely 2 different dynamic. Kurama was a reflection of naruto and vice versa. Kurama was born because the rikudo sage wanted to save humanity from the juubi revival. Kurama wasn’t evil at first but with time the world came to fear him as the incarnation of destruction thanks to people like madara and the masked man. A role he came to accept and so kurama became an evil fox demon who wanted to turn the world to ashes. Naruto was also born out of good intention and to save konoha and the shinobi world but of course out of fear, he was called the demon fox. Throughout the manga . There were subtle hints of kurama changing little by little helping naruto. In early shippuden he warns sasuke not to kill naruto or he would live to regret it. The theme of naruto and kurama is that of SELF IDENTITY rather than self preservation.

Honestly, Hollow Ichigo is probably my favorite character in the series, all the brilliant foreshadowing and long-misguided truth reveal to the side, Zangetsu/White gives us a mirror into how Ichigo would have been if he were less tame, meek and fearful and had more will to power and well... instinct.
Ichigo, considering all the circumstances of his heritage, had all the predispositions to be insanely powerful just by raw, inherent talent, having hollow, quincy and shinigami powers, said hollow being sourced from a vasto-lorde level hollow and said shinigami powers from a royal blessed with exceptionally high spiritual pressure, the thing is, with old man ''Zangetsu'' reining in his powers and Ichigo himself constantly refusing to rely on his hollow, all throughout the series, he was practically never utilizing his full potential, or anywhere close to it.
My favorite part about the real Zangetsu is he gives us a view into how insanely powerful our carrot top MC really could have been if he utilized all his inherent talents and powers from the get-go, and honestly, whenever he did take over Ichigo's body, it was a hype moment for me, as he'd universally decimate the opponent that Ichigo was about to get beaten by.

The Zanpakuto filler arc sorta reinforces why Hollow Ichigo is less of a *villain* and more of a guardian.
When Muramasa was able to extract Old Man Zangetsu, Hollow Ichigo (real Zangetsu) not only aided Ichigo in taking on Old Man by fusing his power with Ichigo, he even told Muramasa how dead wrong he was to suggest that it was Ichigo suppressing *him*.
Hollow Ichigo is definitely one of, if not absolute favorite characters in not only Bleach, or Anime/Manga, but in all of fiction. He's kind of a walking psychological embodiment of suppressed potential just waiting to be unleashed that already exists within one's being.

So the real Zangetsu/White is possibly one of the most complex characters in all of anime. The details and hints of who he really was to Ichigo was literally right in front of everyone's faces and no one noticed it until the end. To add more to his complexity, he was possibly a whole other person prior to him becoming "White" given as to how Aizen continuously experimented and nonchalantly played with many people's lives tampering with Shinigami and Hollow nature. Incredible and yet devilsh writing with mystery on Kubo's part. I really wish he was able to take all the time he needed with this series, such quality writing, character development and foreshadowing would've indeed crafted Bleach in to the sharpest blade of a story.

  • @animeveteran
    @animeveteran 4 роки тому +175

One thing that I was always curious about was the difference in Hollow transformations when Ichigo is training with the Vizards versus his Vasto Lorde transformation. Easy answer is Kubo was still not sure what Ichigo's true Hollow form should look like just yet, and so made him kinda overall beastly with a bunch of seemingly random features to just make him seem chaotic.
But in terms of story, it seemed like each transformation occurs in different circumstances. During his Vizard training, Ichigo was actively combating his inner Hollow, possibly leading to a haphazard and sporadic style of transformation due to conflicting spirit energies for control. This even happens again in the Living Zanpakuto filler arc after Old Man Zangetsu is pulled from Ichigo.
Compare this to his Vasto Lorde transformation, where Ichigo is focused on a single goal, to which his inner Hollow applies all of its strength to accomplish. Ichigo and his Hollow were working instinctively towards a single purpose, but together, not in competition with one another.
Also, upon re-watching, I wonder if Hueco Mundo had some sort of influence on his inner Hollow as well, in a way similar to Chad and his Fullbring abilities being amplified due to their Hollow-like affinity. In a way, it was a return home for that Hollow part of Ichigo. And all that fighting would only serve to make him stronger.
Great video, DBZimran! Can't wait to see your vid on Stark!

Don't put too much thought into it.
They are just different stages or states.Just how his mask progressively elovled. Not to say his hollow evolution was progressive, many diffrent factors and circumstances played into it, for example the intense emotion and trauma he felt in the Ulquiorra fight.
First it was basic body takeover with partial mask, then during his visored training and zampakutou arc he was classiffied as an 'Adjucha' and then 'Vasto Lorde',the highest evolution in Hueco Mundo.
      But hey,that's the beauty of Kubo's writing.😋

    • @Regonix
      @Regonix 4 роки тому +15

      Easy to explain.
Early hollow form was not entirely a form, but instead a process. Hollow power slowly took over Ichigo's body and his hallow powers manifested slowly over Ichigo's body. Even at the end of the training, hallow Ichigo had one enough power manifested to clad entire body in hallow powers. So, this form slowly built up from 0% of hallow powers to X% of hallow powers, however, this form was just that: Ichigo powers as a soul reaper clad with hallow powers. It was incomplete form in which Ichigo and hallow Ichigo were battling for supremacy. So, first form was just Ichigo being equipped by hallow powers.
Vasto Lorde form, however, was not a power struggle. Instead, hallow Ichigo took over completely and hold both soul reaper powers and hallow powers as his own. Unlike previous form, this one started with its near maximum power at the start.
      So, to sum up.
Early form was: Ichigo's soul reaper powers being taking over by his hallow powers, however both of them struggle against each other for control.
Vasto Lorde form: Ichigo's soul reaper powers and hallow powers working together, but for hallow Ichigo.

Your video helped me realize why Bleach had some an impact on me in high school, college, and then ten years later. Hollow Ichigo is akin to the Shadow in Carl Jung's field of psychology. Young Yhwach is akin to the ego. The ego holds back as a matter of self-preservation, but this creates a timid, powerless individual whom is incapable of achieving what one really desires. Think of the common stereotype of millenials, beta males, etc. The shadow is our "dark" side; it's our instinct. It's the part that wants to viciously tear apart, to destroy, and to leave others in ruins because we can. Psychopaths are probably a good example of this, which, again, aligns with the way Vasto Lord Ichigo acted. It's terrifying to be like that, but fits of anger are a good example of this. The harmony betweent he two, or the assimilation of the shadow into the ego, is a balance between brain and instinct. It's what I feel that Ichigo realized in the 1000-year arc when his attained his true zanpakuto. The weirdest thing about this is that this extends to all Shinigami, -- they attain their true bankai, which is often the opposite of their shikai, when they acknowledge what would be their opposite. Soi Fon aligns with this, as does Urahara, Kenpachi, and so on. Realizing this gives me an even deeper respect for Kubo.

The concept of the 'shadow' predates Jung in most other (non-western) cultures.
The ancient Egyptians 3000 years ago considered it an aspect of the soul called 'Shut', and it lived both metaphorically, and physically in the minds of others, as one example.
Shinto is one heck of a religion and spiritual practice, and a lot of it lives on in the best works that have come from Japan.
Ancient psychology is far more fascinating than modern western psychology.

The inner animal is only fearful in your social status in society. The Shadow, the Inner Animal, is only a fear because people fear a lack of societal acceptance. Why would anyone be anything but a beta in a society that fears the negatives of our humanity? People are usually the way they are because society itself acts in the opposite of the individual's benefit. I'm lucky enough to not be forced into such a dynamic. I do not demonize anyone who acquiesces to the will of others.
The Shadow, the Inner Animal, is always a part of you. So why fear yourself for any self-preserving purpose? I think that society works better when everyone is open and honest with themselves. A society that relies on human dishonesty, should not exist.

hallow ichigo is such a presence that he stands as his own character. kubo's art and knowledge of the human face is so oceanic and vast that even IF they have the same face shape, design, body, nose, jaw, etc. i still believe he's a different person because of his expressions and body language. i also love how unlike everyone else in the hueco mundo arc he doesn't lie about anything. he never tells a lie and never says something he doesn't 100% believe in or something he won't fallow through on. because of that honesty, he is by far the strongest character in that arc only being one up by aizen (though keep in mind we only saw vasto lorde at half strength and not at full so jury is still out on who is stronger.). this whole theme of deceit is perfectly executed in the perfect way but i feel like a lot of people miss it. a great example is orihime and well...... let's save that for another time.

This!!! Maybe Kubo wasn't the most technical/detailed manga artist but he's so effing good at making the characters be unique and stand out from each other!! The way he adds details and his creativity is also top notch. I mean come on, 90% of the characters in the show are dressed exactly the same it forced him to find other ways to differentiate them!

I think his honesty is partly due to to fact that he is a zanpakutou. As we see in the zanpakutou arc, they tend to say what is on their mind and don't seem to lie unless someone has put them up to it. As for the Old Man, he wasn't originally a zanpakutou, which may explain why he lied for so long compared to the hollow

Hollow ichigo broke the talk no jutsu out of ichigo. Most Shonen protagonist would try to convince their enemies to stop doing the evil deeds but hollow ichigo is the reality in a world where it is to kill or be killed.
Love his character and play his bankai form in brave souls mainly because he doesn't hold back.

Maybe it's just my view, but I was lead to believe White was a remnant of Ichigo's unconventional gain of Soul Reaper Powers through becoming a Plus then a Hollow temporarily and because of that he still had traces of the transformation he had to start with, although as you pointed out this happened to be the same time that White would manifest inside because Ichigo's breaking of his Hollow transformation into a Soul Reaper was really him breaking the seal of his parents. Anger, Instinct, Primal Desire. When we first see White he is the very namesake of the series. A Shinigami in a White as opposed to a Black Shihakusho. He immediately shows a different interpretation of things to Ichigo that even goes as far as the way he uses Zangetsu or himself swinging it like a flail using the wrappings which the wrappings itself seemingly just serving an aesthetic purpose as well as the most notable thing of Zangetsu being how large it is, no one would even ever consider using it that way and if they did most would expect a slow sling. *Not Zangetsu though.* In my interpretation of Zanpakuto Spirits I feel being the weapons themselves they will inherently have the knowledge of how to best use their weapon forms and any abilities they may have, if not by Ichigo's then by Shuhei's who coincidentally resembles Ichigo and seemingly has no special ability to his Zanpaktou outside of the same capabilty to swing it around and maybe wrap things. It's also why it's no small coincidence he would take over as protagonist for Ichigo while he's on literal vacation in CFYOW. (Did Ichigo ever really get any special abilities with his fake or real Zanpakuto though? My running theory is Getsuga in Shikai and an extra Speed Boost in Bankai but Getsuga isn't unique and Bankai should already be it's own multiplier/amp.) I see White as in the same boat as Old Man Zangetsu where he just wants what's best for Ichigo but has to use his own methods that come naturally to him by being forceful. If the Old Man was the Gentle Mother as he is technically the remnants of his Mother he would be the Father as weird and as cursed as that sounds. Often times taking the path of reason happens to work for Ichigo, believing everyone has some purpose for fighting and doesn't strictly want to kill them, this works and applies on notably, Ikkaku, Renji, and Byakuya, maybe even Kenpachi who might just find his view "interesting" on how he has so much power and still refuses to fight for the joy of it, which is more in line with White. Which is a shame he never appeared in Kenpachi's fight because I would love to see if he would cream his pants at that side of Ichigo or not. Though the first battle where Ichigo utilized White both literally in addition to his ideals was Grimmjow I felt while right before he finished the fight he did declare he had the "Instinct" and fought for the joy of battle as White tried to convince him, he also kept the "Reason" Ichigo and Old Man Zangetsu believe in. Perhaps at this time by clashing with Grimmjow he saw into him giving him any missing information in addition to Grimmjow relentlessly declaring himself King not unlike White even though it is obvious not only are there Espada and Soul Reapers like himself more powerful than him. My interpretation is Ichigo understands Grimmjow has an innate fear of something if he isn't the "King" he keeps claiming he is, that being he might revert to a thoughtless mass of Hollow Souls which is an existience comparable in how awful it is to the Soul King. So he can't help but keep fighting on as it is out of Fear of regression to that- out of Instinct. For that reason when he wins he grabs Grimmjow's arm and gently puts him down as if to say "You don't have to fight so hard against me, I don't hate you, I'm not looking down on you." He simply needed his Instinct to counter Grimmjow's which conveying his is perhaps the only way he could understand. Which is why Ichigo becomes so enraged when Nnoitra strikes him while he is in this vulnerable state. He in theory could take Orihime and run as I've never seen Nnoitra fight in the air for long periods of time but he could still maybe match Ichigo's speed if not surpass it. He'd have to grab Nel too. Next would him being seemingly killed by Ulquiorra for the 2nd time. Imagine being in Ichigo's place and this again notes how what makes Ichigo so much greater and at the same time more foreign to people than people like Luffy or Naruto is how he reacts to things in the story realistically. Imagine after escaping a Brush with death to someone once you come out stronger and are so grateful for the 2nd chance you'll never let it go to waste, as seen when Ichigo has gotten stronger in the short time: you fall again to the same opponent. Although this time right before you do you see he very person you were fighting for now vulnerable. If you are conscious at all it is only in your own mind, you would be beyond panic, beyond fear. There is no power up or special technique you have that you know of to use. If you did it is too late, there is no one powerful enough to know where you are outside of Las Noches in time to save you or anyone. What Ulquiorra said to Orihime actually applied to Ichigo: You are alone. No one (besides Orihime) will see you die. I'm doing my best to convey it with words but really it's a feeling of absolute panic and fear you'd have to feel something similar to understand. Maybe you want to throw up, maybe you feel your heart is about to burst, maybe there's a cold through out your body or a painful heat in your head. But there's nothing left. You still see it as you have to do something as Ichigo notes to Ulquiorra why he fights. If this is a story you have to see it through to it's happy ending. Surely something will come? Surely something will happen? You'll go on living as you always do? The reality reflects the environment they are fighting in. A lifeless lonely desert in an eternal night that for some reason I always thought had it's own beauty. Ichigo is dead. The last thing he hears is Orihime's crying. If any thoughts or reason remained it could only be something simple, something instinctive. "I must protect-" that lone thought is the only thing that remains alive. "-Must protect." Through this panic and through that last core thought it either undoes any and all resistance Ichigo had on White or White actually shared an instinctual desire to protect what Ichigo wishes too. If what Old Man Zangetsu wants to protect isn't what Ichigo wants to protect, and White in a few ways could be interpreted as the opposite of him then he should want to protect what Ichigo wants to protect: being Orihime. And getting into Power Scaling over narrative we see that this desire at max scales 250x above this form of Ulquiorra that's 100x the base Ichigo was doing rather well against while Masked, using the most basic form of White's power. Which is roughly 20x to 100x Ichigo's base as well depending on how you want to do the math. Ichigo wins. But was basically dead/asleep while it happened. Another feeling you have do your best to fully empathize with. What I suspect is getting drunk then waking to learn you did all these awful things you weren't even aware of. As opposed to gently setting someone like Grimmjow down who was believed to be beyond understanding and respected in the end. Ulquiorra has been mutilated and beaten, he succedded in terrifying Orihime, which was the thing holding him back in the previous battle with Grimmjow he tried to prevent, as well as stabbing Uryu. The worse part: It worked. When his previous belief of his and Old Man Zangetu's reason and understanding didn't. Ichigo is obviously distraught of this on top of the damage he has caused. Though at the last second with Ulquiorra's death if not just Orihime, he too understands Ulquiorra finally, or maybe Ulquiorra understands them. For all these reasons, Ichigo's mental barrier on himself becomes stronger than it's ever been, not in the previous dominative and resolveful way he has to force White or his mask to cooperate, but in a more submissive, fearful way and this is why he can no longer use his Mask properly and we never see it again after this arc. The mask itself has changed. This is the last bit of characterization and who it affects by White we get without delving into Old Man Zangetsu as well which would be a nice theme to follow after Starrk and the 10k special I know is going to be great whatever it is. Finally outside of reading (although it was after for me) Johnny Yong Bosch is just amazing at portraying and conveying him, it's just no contest for me. I just want at least *someone* to acknowledge that. He also did a guttural scream when completely taking over as opposed to what sounds like a more stock roar in the Japanese version. Would love to touch on *both* Zangetsus another time if we ever get a video on the Zanpakuto Spirit Arc! Good work as usual!

Very nice points, I didn't ever think of it that way, that after the fight with ulqui, the reason he felt shame and fear is because he basically woke up after a drunk rage and killed someone he didn't intend to or truly want to kill. That definitely explains the deep shame and fear he'd have. Like even though he won... It was not in an agreeable it honorable way, and caused more destruction than good.
Even though he won, he would feel like he fucked up and didn't deserve it, and wouldn't even consider it a win, or even a fight.
It's one thing to want to beat someone in a fight or make a bully back off from your friend, but even in the prescience of that, if you get drunk, find them while drunk, kill and mutilate them in that drunk state and then wake up after and see what you did and know your friends and loved ones saw you do that... You'd feel horrible and NEVER want to do that again, likely wouldn't even take pride in it.
I get that new. It confused me why he couldn't hollowfy after that but I understand it now, thanks.

One thing to notice are how similar Ichigo and Zangetsu/H.Ichigo truly are.
Ichigo does have that killer instinct that Zangetsu talks about, but the interesting part is that he uses his "heroic" actions as an excuse to fight as stated by Grimmjow during their fight in Hueco mundo.
    “Why did you come here?
Isn't it obvious? To rescue Inoue
Then why didn't you took the bitch and ran away the moment you saw her?....
Let me break it down to you, because you don't seem yo undestand, you didn't came here to rescue her, you came here to fight"
After that statement, during the final moments of the battle Ichigo's attitude feels like Zangetsu's.
he smiles, and even mocks Grimmjow while fighting.
“Hah! You can't stand what? Being treated like an equal by a human?"
IMO it is only when Ichigo accepts his insticts for battle when he becomes a better fighter, since he is uncounsionly accepting H.Ichigo as himself

I just made this connection. We found out Kisuke studied plenty of the Zero divisions creation and training. So, kisuke made ichigo hurt or dodge a punch like in the hot springs when he reacts quick.
Shattered Shaft is a 3 day period to become a shinigami or a hollow
The hoodin has a time limit to fight for a asauchi to accept you.
So Ichigo had a sealed asauchi, during the hollow bait incident he blocks a cero, and uryu states " hes pouring out so much spiritual pressure. Otesu said " time for a bit of your soul, then pull it out.
So kisuke created the zangetsu, so this might be why in the soul palace
The asauchi might so know of ichigo "cheating " by having someone other otesu.

Something I think a lot of people also kinda miss about 'Shirosaki'/Hollow Ichigo is that his demeanor is actually not that far off from Ichigo during the very earliest chapters of Bleach, back when Ichigo showed more personality. He was a lot more outspoken, aggressive, prone to getting into fights and threatening others, and an all-around punk. Literally character traits that Shirosaki portrays, only amplified up to eleven. In a sense, the Inner Hollow was the closest to Ichigo's most natural and relaxed behaviour from before the Soul Society arc. Hence why the whole 'instinct' thing is so important during the 'King and His Horse' speech. Ichigo, at that point, has stopped living according to his impulsive, instinctual behaviour that he used to in the past.

The way he spins that huge sword from the strap at the end of it like a helicopter with no effort is really kool. I guess being stronger and faster than ichigo helps with that. The only thing I don't like is that hollow doesn't stick around to fight long enough.

Wonderful video. As much as the Hollow was helping Ichigo out, the most interesting part of him to me is the fact that he's both right and wrong. He shows Ichigo that killer instinct is what he needs at the moment, but while Hollow thinks this should be a constant thing, Ichigo must learn to balance the Hollow and the Quincy, his instinct and his compassion. Multiple scenes show Ichigo failing for relying on one or the other too much, his final form represents him finally completing his character arc which had been set up since chapter 1. It also relates to the themes of death heavily. You shouldn't let yourself become depressed at the thought of death but you also can't ignore it. So cool how Kubo is able to make these inherently dark things way more complex than one might think. You're first shown "death is scary" and then you're given "death is nothing to be feared" but there is then a third lesson that teaches you to live in the middle. Yhwach represents Ichigo's (and humanity's) instinctual fear of death, but I'll wait for you to make a video on him before I say much more.

What I found bone chilling about this character is that his notions are the complete opposite of other stories, anime and cartoon adaptions. Its practicality is really usable, you cant think your way out and instinct is the only thing you cant counter against.

I believe that Shattered Shaft was a technique that Urahara developed particularly for Ichigo's case. Since his Zanpakutou is his inner Hollow, forcing the Human part of his soul into Hollowification would draw out his Zanpakutou as well

These videos are great but are you planning on analysing newer shonen?
These videos show why how bleach actually has depth more than people don't even credit which is frustrating

Because let's face it most people who watch shounen do it for the BOOM BOOM POW, not for philosophy.

Imagine if he had embraced Zangetsu from the beginning?
He could have accepted his help, if for no other reason than to have access to his full powers.
The reason for the possessions were due to him refusing his Zanpakuto, all the while still wanting to use his power.
It sounds kind of crappy to have someone else's life in your hands, even gaining power from this interaction, and not caring for or protecting your benefactor...
No wonder he got frustrated when Ichigo consistently refused to use all of the power available to him when fighting enemies that he knows are stronger than him...it's like paying taxes and the government keeps insisting on sending social workers to handle situations that would require a SWAT team.

I like the narration and info. Alot of plot holes that I missed watching your videos. I appreciate that as a bleach fan
