Through this step by step tutorial I show various tools and forms for painting this adorable little carrot mandala. The dollar tree really has stepped up their crafting game. Trying to put some variety out there so it is not always the same mandala patterns we see in the groups. Hopefully will spark some imaginations outside the box :)

As a decorative painter for the last 35 years, I have painted on some pretty crappy wood. Obviously give it a sand with some medium and then fine grit paper or sanding discs. Then you can mix your black paint half and half with sealer, or glaze medium if you don’t have black gesso and base coat away. If it seems a bit shiny or thin, give it a second coat with straight up paint. Dry thoroughly then use a fine grit sand paper or disc to sand again. This will give you a smooth painting surface, but with good tooth. Clean your surface with a tack cloth and then follow Miranda’s instructions. It seems like work, but trust me. Painting on an uneven wood surface is trouble and work plus not good for your brushes. The smooth surface is much easier to work with! And I use smaller (3x3 inch ish) dollar store surfaces all the time for putting on seasonal wreaths. Too much fun!
