The X2000 was a good looking set, it would have been nice to see just how fast the TGV went compared to the X2000 and the lCE on the Northeast Corridor...
That's the Engines they USED to pull the X2000 IN DIESEL TERRITORIES WHEN THE X2000 WENT CROSS COUNTRY TO L.A ON TOUR, THE GERMAN ICE WASNT FAR BEHIND....
@@perha45 that's definitely a Turboliner. No mistaking it. You can even hear someone say "Yeah it's a Rohr. This was built in California" at 6:12 or so. The livery is very strange though. Looks almost as if they painted it to match the ICE set when it visited a few months later...the F69PHAC's that ended up being the ICE's escort in non-electrified territory were originally painted to match the ICE, too, but eventually were repainted to phase 3.
ah yes the Amtrak high speed train that for some reason dissapeared off the face of the earth. EDIT: I've since realized that these were merely prototypes for the later Acela trains that are currently in service.
First they get a train that looks like the ICE ones in Germany, and now they have a train that looks like the Swedish X2000 (both the Amtrak ICE and X2000 trains share the model with the German and Swedish trains)
Alright, I gotta ask, having seen this a lot in 1990s vids with Amtrak trains, but what the heck was with the trend of often having a café car so far back (or even the last car of) a 7+ car consist?
I believe it was because the café cars they used back then had tables at one end of the car, and business class seats at the other end. That configuration still exists on some Amfleet I café cars, whereas ones that are specifically for Northeast Regional service today have tables at both ends of the car.
@@dexecuter18 Seems in recent years they have gotten more into the habit of having the café car either as close to, or smack in the middle of, the Northeast Regional trains.
Don't despair, there are still engine changes for the Vermonter and some Northeast Regional because of their Springfield destination on the Hartford-Springfield Line.
so, who likes the x2000 more than any other high-speed train amtrak has used? acela doesn't deserve to be called a train, and the upcoming new trains are hideous
Goggles Tigerkhan in my opinion in looks for America's hi speed trains are...1.) The Avelia 2.) the x200 3.) The Acela Express. Also the x2000 horns is dinky AF
love the fact that you caught the old Amtrak Vermonter baggage car in your videos!
The X2000 was a good looking set, it would have been nice to see just how fast the TGV went compared to the X2000 and the lCE on the Northeast Corridor...
The X2000 is still in use in Sweden. It does not use that silly horn :’)
I imagine that was one of those many silly US railroad safety requirements that probably contributed to the Acela design winning out over the X2000.
Love those X2000’s
I rode the X2000 between PhL and NYC. Made the trip in 60 minutes -cool!
I wonder how it would have ran on the Shoreline segment between New Haven and BOSTON, what kind of times the X2000 would of had......
X2000 also ran trials in Australia between Sydney and Canberra using xpt locomotives as power.
I think it also went around the US with diesel power as well
X2000 was the most American looking high speed train America has ever had
I’ve never seen Turbos in that paint scheme before.

Amtrak had it on loan from Sweden for a few months to try it out. Amtrak then designed its own, the Acela.!
Dennis V Sinclair the acela is a Walmart X2000.
No it's still running in Sweden, CHINA USE THEM AS THEIR EARLY HI --SPEED TRAINS
@@OregonRailfan83 The Acela is really a combination of the TGV and LRC designs rather than an Amtrak original design.

I wish Amtrak kept x2000's

1 i like the x2000 better, 2 dont care what Amtrak says, the turboliners were awesome!
It’s so strange seeing the x2000 in new London before it was electrified
bad ass ride

The New Haven was absorbed by Penn Central in 1969
why didnt they by the turbos or x2000?

No. The turboliner wasn’t electric like the Acela, and they are all now retired.

Great video, was that Stamford approaching the hour mark? If so it looks so different now. I miss seeing the engine change at NHV. Thank you sir!
