    Phil elvrum has changed my life. My girlfriend knew how much I loved this album. We talked about Phil a lot and she bought me a t shirt with the elephant from the cover on it. It’s ironic because I eventually met the same fate as Phil did. Getting cheated on by the one you love for many months. It’s crazy how much the lyrics resonate with me now more than ever. I feel every single lyric as if I am Phil. I got a tattoo of the elephant from the glow pt 2 and though im still struggling with the breakup, this album(despite how sad it is to the realest extent) gives me hope because there are other people going through the same exact thing that I am, and they will get through it.

    there was one morning of my life where i woke up and was frustrated that i did. i didn't want to be alive. i laid in bed all morning, trying to convince myself that dying was the best choice. i put on some music to help me drown out my thoughts, so I began going through a list of album I had saved but had yet to hear. and by what i believe only to be divine intervention, the glow pt2 was the first one i decided to play. phil's lyrics about death resonated so much with me, that it reignited my will to live. art, even if it is about death, is only made by the living. once you remove yourself from the earth, you can no longer feel, and the previous longing to never feel again is only palpable if you can still feel after the pain goes away.

    This is the first video of yours Ive watched. Great stuff man. 20 years back, I freaking loved Mount Eerie/The Microphones,. I was obsessed with his music. I saw him play live 4 times. These sets were in an art gallery in Grand Rapids Mi, the University of Michigan Art Museum, a small venue in Ann Arbor and I saw him play at a loft in Cincinnati. At the loft, all the local kids were showing up with cases of beer to party. None of them were paying to get in. When I introduced myself to Phil before the show, he expressed being pissed by all of this.
    For that show, it was just Phil standing on a 1 step riser with an electric guitar. The lighting was 1 light bulb hanging down over his head. He started warming up and letting the guitar distort. Then he looked around, reached up and unscrewed the one light bulb that was lighting him. He then proceeded to play hard, in the dark. It was a very different, more intense, harder vibe than the other times I saw him play. It was not what I had expected and initially I felt let down but a little way into the set, I realized this was probably a once in a lifetime set, driven by an unfortunate situation

    Fans of the game "What Remains of Edith Finch" might be interested to know that that game was set very close to Phil Elverum's hometown. The Finch's house was located on Orcas Island, which is about an hour's ferry ride away from Anacortes. In fact, at the beginning of the game Edith was probably riding the ferry from Anacortes (although she could have embarked from a couple of other less likely places).

      @UntitledNameGangIsTouringAmmos 2 роки тому +6

      @@nodiet8660 Yeah but that's like saying Gorillaz' aren't a band. The moniker is utilized like a band. It's not just 'Phil' in name. It's Phil and all his various collaborative efforts just like Gorillaz is technically just Damon, but the collaborative effort is what makes it a band, maybe not a conventional definition of a band, but it has the collaborative effort that a band would.

    Elverum’s catalog is absolutely incredible. I had only listened to The Glow Pt 2 up until this year, which is one of my favorite records of all time. (Slowly becoming my favorite)
    I decided to listen to It was hot, we stayed in the water a few weeks ago, which blew me away with how interlaced the glow pt 2 was with it. I listened to the glow pt 2 soon after and decided to queue Mount Eerie after it.
    I don’t want to spoil anything for anybody, but I highly recommend listening to mount eerie immediately after the glow pt 2.

    Like you I found the art of Phil Elverum in 2021, it was quick into listen to the glow pt 2 that I discovered his genius. I saw him in October of last year in a small theatre in London. He was touring the microphones in 2020. It was an outer body experience. I was blown away and still am thinking about it. After the show I met him for 2 minutes. He was a warm and gentle man with not much to say but he didn’t have to, he already said what he had to say with his performance. I left that night as a change person. The train on the way home I sat there and thought about what I have just experienced and I still can’t put it into words. It was like reliving the first listen to the Glow pt 2. This man has reshaped how I see the world and emotions. This video is phenomenal in showing this feeling and I thank you for that.

    I was really excited to see this in my youtube feed section. November of 2020 I listened to the glow pt 2, wrapped in an electric blanket and illumated by a autumnal scented candle. Phil Elverum filled the void in me, helped me confront the darkness. Im in love with his music and its unabashedly inspired my own work, helped me place my own feelings. I cant wait to see the documentary when it comes out.
    Best Wishes,

I wrote Phil not too long and he sent me a postcard, he’s awesome and he’s such a generous and amazing person. He shaped my guitar playing and my outlook on life, I really reccomend another band called “Foot Ox” I got the album cover of their album “Ghost” tattooed a couple weeks ago, they do amazing music as well.

    Always been more of a Mount Eerie fan, only dipping my toes into his Microphones work. I'll have to revisit it now, thanks. Sometimes a work just hits you at just the right time and it elevates it into something really magical and special. It's always frustrating trying to relate that special-ness to others who didn't experience it in the same context that you did. I think you did a really good job at trying to convey that in this video!
    Random aside: I saw Mount Eerie live in a little bar in Seattle, sometime around 2010 right after Wind's Poem came out. One of the instruments brought on stage was a giant metal gong, must have been 4-5 feet in diameter. Amazing.
    Also, your pronunciation of Anacortes made me chuckle. I assume you must be from the Southwest or SoCal where there's a big Spanish influence on the names of things? Up here we pronounce it more like Anne-uh-Cordiss

    Woah when you talked about hip hop beats on the early tapes and how that was so different from anything on microphones, it threw me off because actually i grew up with hip hop and liked how it has bled into so many things that aren't hip hop and i consider microphones to be one of those that actually does have hip hop dna in it's all over unique sound and soul. It may not have in large obvious manner, but i certainly see it, or rather hear it in there
    PS. Otherwise great vid, great breakdown, i haven't seen a whole lot talking about him and his music, so this was helpful. I have lived with 2 of his albums for a good 15 years or so, it was hot and the glow part 2, and never put all that exactly together but certainly felt plenty of it in my own abstract fractured ways. I was introduced to them by digging through a girlfriends collection of CDs and fell in love with them, and though she found a path apart from mine i kept my recordings to carry me through my own path. Things can get better. They may not be as good as before the darkness, because there will always be a high watermark in life, but they can be good enough to live and love and enjoy the music and even to enjoy the heartbreak felt when the album spins again through back to the beginning foghorns and all just keep marching to the drums
