    I see nautical fashion for women as a subset of military fashion for women, where some of the appeal comes from the sharp tailoring details, trim lines and darker colors, but some of the subtext is a desire to be treated with the same caliber of respect as military brass. As such, I'm not surprised to see it strongly influencing workwear in the 1980s.

      Yes totally! It was hard to focus on just nautical while researching this, and it made me want to do something on women's military fashion history next. It's so interesting! Especially how it influences "civilian" fashion.

    I definitely had a navy dress with a white sailor collar in my childhood! So cool to see the evolution of the trend, especially as I'm struggling with summer fashions. I'm definitely taking some inspiration from this video this summer!

      Yes!! After watching this, my mom suddenly remembered all the sailor inspired kid looks she put me in in the 90s. And even some old photos of her in the 50s and 60s as a kid in similar looks.
