Gentle Giant
Renaissance
Camel
Mike Oldfield

Thanks for presenting me Atmosphera.
All these bands are amazing, but I'm still spellbounded by Atmosphera.
All great records! Bubu, Islands, McDonald & Giles, UK ... gorgeous! But the greatest ist IMO Yezda Urfa! Incredible Mix between Yes & Gentle Giant with a great Sense of humour & incredible musicianship! Thanks & greetings from Würzburg.
Damn. I knew there are countries out there with many only recently acclaimed prog artists from the past, but this list surprises me once more!
Wonderful, thanks! Great tasters of a bunch or artists I'd either never heard of, or knew by sound but couldn't recall the name. I'll get hours of pleasure hunting down and listening to these.
Wow! I didn't know 3 of these (Atmosphera; Rainbow Theatre; Opus-5) and to my own shame I had forgotten about 2 (Circus; Bubu). I particularly loved finding out about Opus-5 and I thank you for it.
Thank you for that great exclusive prog music recommendation!!! Liked it
Ahh...McDonald and Giles post King Crimson. Listen to the melodic drumming of Michael Giles. His percussion drove the first KC record. Good stuff. Also the piano theme on Birdman stays with you for a while. One other obscure, but equally notable LP was Mark-Almond by Jon Mark and Johnny Almond Mark played with Marianne Faithful and John Mayall while Almond also played with Mayall. The two best songs are The Ghetto and The City. Gone but not forgotten
Atmosphera members are: Efrayim Barak - Vocals, Moti Fonseka - Guitar, Alon Nadel - Bass, Yuval Rivlin - Keyboards, Ami Lipner (later re-named himself Mi El-Ma) - Drums
Barak also sang with another brilliant Israeli band, Zingale.
1975 or 1977?
Yezda Urfa is a superior masterpiece. One of the greatest prog rock band. Completely unnoticed, under appreciated even on the same level from classics, Yes, ELP, King Crimson etc..
Did not know most of these bands and am intrigued by all of them. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for posting! I have to agree with everyone else about Atmosphera....what a great hidden gem that album is. There is also a live clip of them doing "Lady of Shallot" on YT. I'm excited to explore the other albums. PS: there are many others, but another gem is Druid's "Toward The Sun." It isn't quite as obscure as some of these but still is a great album.
Thanks for the recommendations! Checking out all of these eventually.
now I truly know that we've only heard a very tiny small percentage of the music available in the world, most of it was kept from us all, and surely was the best music too they kept from us..
very cool stuff , glad I stumbled across this thanks -
I agree about Atmosphera. Amazing album by brilliant players. It should have been a hit but coming from Israel was not an advantage in the seventies. I hope that the album will be released again. I really need it in my collection!
I'm looking for it too, but the label that re-released it on CD in 2003 has went bankrupt, the only hope we have is to dig eBay for used copies.
Peleg Tsadok I tried to find it on ebay but without succes. But one day I might get a new release. I hope so.
Which band are all of you referring to?
McDonald and Giles is a criminally overlooked masterpiece.
The trouble is that in England they sound like a couple of farmers.
@@HappyCynic Huh?
@@NelsonMontana1234 Their names sound like farmers so people in the UK did not take the album seriously.
@@HappyCynic That's kinda offending
@@justfuntimedoingnothing8477 To whom?
Bubu gran banda prog Argentina pero habia muchas en esa epoca Crucis, Espiritu , La Maquina de hacer Pajaros
I have alot of these, on cd.if it weren't for cd's I wouldn't own these on vinyl.trying to find most would be very difficult.great video, very well done and informative.
Underground prog rock rules
Good compilation!! Thanks
I don't consider Tull prog, also,
and I still haven't found interest in Oldfield.
But I also like:
Druid
Gong
Magma
...
What about In Flight Of The
Snow Goose by Camel?
Brazil's O Terço was great too!
Aware of some of these groups. A big fan of Shadowfax and owns a copy of Watercourse Way- also try Folksongs For A Nuclear Village and The Odd Get Even. Also own the MacDonald & Giles record- an early King Crimson offshoot. Probably should have included Pete Sinfield’s Still. U.K.were a Prog. super group featuring Bill Bruford, John Wetton, Eddie Jobson and Allan Holdsworth.
Other recommendations could include Wigwam and Tasavallan Presidentti and the wonderful Premiata Forneria Marconi.
Great compilation. Atmosfera is now re-issued. As for recommendations, I think there are lots of gems which could be added
Some examples would be Gryphon, Greenslade, , Strawbs (Grave new world), Fruup and many more
...
eilamgross faust
Thanks for the tips, I'll check them out. The only group I know in your list is Strawbs - Hero and Heroine is a great album.
My favorite was Opus 5 - probably the most obscure band on here
It's not that obscure in Canada.
The bubu one is amazing
I have Danger Money by UK on vinyl. And trust me, it's pretty hard to find
You mean in shops? Maybe cos this post is rather old but today I went on Discogs and could find plenty of copies on sale there
@@SirJeff God bless discogs!
I can find it in Sao Paulo, Brazil vinyl used stores
Good job!
great bands! although obscure. very underrated.
Great music!!!
Thanks for uploading
(UK, with Jobson - Wetton & Bozzio is not "rare prog", ha-ha)
I agree - great music! Speaking of UK: I have their LP "UK", and saw them live in Montreal, in I guess 78 or 79. 🔥 Amazing! But I have to say I didn't know their album Danger Money (my bad!)
Hi I completely agree that Atmoshpera is a real gem !!! And how is was possible to be made in Isreal at that times ? If it was made in UK it would be as great as Genesis, King Crimson or VDGG. Greetings from Poland!
I agree.
Genial, un gran descubrimiento
MARVELOSO - in any language -
These artists demand an indulgent listening at the beginning, then they lend their beauties and their intelligences flayed, until one is ineluctably caught in their respective worlds. Each listening unveils a little more of their mysteries and their fairies but most do not become timeless, far from it ! (except perhaps UK and SHADOWFAX ;)
Atmosphera israelense é espetacular!
Happy the man🎶
What about “SUPERTRAMP” classic prog albums like:even in the quietest moments, etc. etc. 1970s group foundational to prog music! Breakfast in America includes some pop but mostly prog with sax songs. The list goes on and on…. Hooray for prog. Love it. However, my basic definition includes a requirement that has songs ranging to about 23 minutes which corresponds to the single side of an lip
good and rare stuff
Belíssima coletânea \o/
Did anyone find the atmosphera album? Awesome stuff.
To me, the best prog rock band is king crimson. But I also love gentle giant, elp, etc...
Well, obviously, based on your red profile pic :^)
on allflac.com
King crimson and gentle giant are my two favourite 70's prog rock bands.
KC is my second fav.
Genesis
Só bandas boas.....ótima coletânea
Recommend legendary URIAH HEEP "Salisbury" 1971 Excellent Album
NEKTAR-A TAB IN THE OCEAN
quel bonheur que ces sons-là....
Try ASIA MINOR - Crossing the line(1979)
One of the songs from circus reminds me of the smash ultimate theme
Missing Locomotiv GT or SBB, but off course they not singing in English.
Terreno baldio - terreno baldio (Brazil) u guys should try
Dark Round of Edges.McDonald&Giles to album znany,do kupienia bez problemu.
The only one I have not heard is the opus 5 one very excited to listen. I especially love atmosphera one in the list. Intresting gems I have found are bacamarte - depois do fim (not too rare by today)(Brasil) cathedral - stained glass stories - (England) arts and crafts - tilt (gets unfairly grouped with jazz fusion in my opinion - it's outright composed with little to no improv)(Italy) fire ballet - night on bald mountain, Hands - hands (self titled) (USA?) And of course u listed the epic greats such of tull genesis and yes. I am always on the hunt for truly epic and gorgeous artistic albums! Peace.
Make a part 2 and include Babylon - Babylon (1978)
Great stuff, but I really wouldn't have rated UK as "rare" or unknown... John Wetton, Bill Bruford (not on "Danger Money" though), Alan Holdsworth, Terry Bozio... Those guys were all at the top then!
Also check Focus, Santana,
tengo entendido que Bubu saco luego otro disco.Anabelas un discazo
McDonald and Giles; otherwise known as the best album King Crimson never made.
I love this album
I hear a lot of Steve Vai style playing in some of these; Does anyone know if he was influenced by any of these artists?
Ross Moffitt Steve vai was member of Frank Zappa, but a lot of people say that his music was not progressive.
There is good stuff here (UK, Rainbow Theathre, Islands, Anabelas- very good sound!), but there is no band like Gentle Giant, who influenced many others here... is the more creative, great orchestrations, and with a wide range of musical interests andserious music!! In the quite same league are King Crimson, Van der Graaf, Gryphon, Gnidrolog, Beatles, Cressida and some other obscurities...
gentle giant is the greatest most criminally underated band ever
it's Giger work on Island cover?
Yes
I’ve known 9 out of 10. Great picks nevertheless.
Two words: Gentle Giant.
Uk is amazing i have the 2 vynil
What about. "Year One"?
PART TWO
can anyone please recommend prog bands with alot of guitar? thank you.
Camel (Moonmadness)
Yes (Yes album)
Gong (You)
Soft Machine (Bundles)
Gentle Giant (Three friends)
Pink Floyd (Animals)
You might try the Dutch band Finch! Their debut album Glory Of The Inner Force had great impact on me!
Wishbone Ash
How about Focus. That should be the most obvious choice featuring The Great Jan akkerman.
@@edljnehan2811 great band that im familiar with, thank you
Ouçam Bacamarte - Depois do Fim (Brasil)
Iezda urza look like Yes
🙂
I bought my copy of Danger Money for like $5.
de argentina recomiendo a Crucis y Alas . . .

Banana no està mal tampoco...
Alas! Nada mal! Increible banda!
Espiritu
MIA (Musicos independientes asociados)
Rayuela

I have an extra copy of Danger Money. Maybe someone can buy it off me so I can expand my prog collection.
Sólo conocía Anabelas de Bubu
I would like ear atmospheria
Island
Symphonic slam from Canada also prism
It would be logical to substitute UK with Dr. Z
Gypsy in the garden? Star Castle the strawbs hero and heroine? Hudson Ford?
Triumvarat SPARTACUS anyone?
It wouldn't be categorized as obscure neither would UK.
what about 'TOUCH'? WHY ISN'T ANYBODY TALKING ABOUT THEM?BETTER GET GOING ! RIGHT?
so many of these sound so king crimson-lite especially bubu
Nektar down-to-earth? Armageddon?
Para.
Ti. ( Pais)
Axis . swers down under. Grecia
Atila. Reviure Spain
High fidelity orchestra. Mexico
Marsupilami. Inglaterra.
Buon vechio Charly. Italia
Samla Mama's mana. Clave Morse.
Danger Money rare??
UK's Danger Money is not particularly rare, as it contains one of the all time great progressive rock tracks in Carrying No Cross. The same is true of McDonald and Giles who were really the original King Crimson without the distinctive contributions of Greg Lake and Robert Fripp. Ian McDonald's role in ITCOTCK was very underrated, but Lake and Fripp are sorely missed.
All the bands since Island looks awesome. The first four look generic lol.
UK, man? I can't call it rare, sorry.
OMG, the Israeli band Atmosphere are so so bad...and Bubu are gr8, all the other are not wirth to mention...sorry, good video.
UK rare ? it's almost mainstream
A bunch of obscure, non-relevant Italian releases.
