In 2016, Boomerang Bay becomes Hurricane Harbor, Cirque Dreams debuts and Plants vs. Zombies 3-Z opens. In 2017, WinterFest returns and Country Fair debuts. In 2018, Planet Snoopy becomes Camp Snoopy. In 2019, Copperhead a Strike opens. And In 2020, a new racing slide opens in Carolina Harbor.
roxxxtar74 The log flume and oaken bucket were my favorite rides. I also liked the sky buckets and monorail too. I was disappointed when they stopped using shuttle buses which would take visitors to the front entrance from the parking lot.
Thank you for this. I am writing a book about the 2nd generation of amusement rides and could not, for the life of me, remember Carowinds' enterprise's original name. Now I remember. Thanks a million.
No mention of all the original Train rides or the Gold Rusher Roller coaster which has survived several decades of changes. The fact it out lasted Thunder Road is amazing, and not how you would have placed bets. A lot of sadness for rides removed that could have been kept. There was plenty of real estate around the park up into the 2000's that was undeveloped countryside.
Bondi Beach was apart of Boomerang Bay which was also the name of the waterpark. Summer 2016 the waterpark is currently being rebuilt and named Carolina Harbor. So excited cant wait to go next month! Been going to Carowinds all my life!
Carowinds made an stupid mistake when they stopped using those courtesy shuttle buses. They were inside and outside the park. When you arrived at the park, the shuttle buses in the parking lot would take you to the front entrance. Does anyone remember that?
Can anyone help me out with a name of a dark ride Carowinds had in the early 90s. It was a long hall where you sat down and the shows begins. It was pirate themed and the room would feel like it's spinning around you.
Yeah It Was Double housed The speed way cars Should be brought Back Where vortex is cause majority people don't know how to properly ride Vortex so The Bottom vortex load station was filled In
ColeM Geometry Dash you must have missed them, both are in the video. Thunder Road opened in 1976 and ran for 39 years, closing in 2015. Nighthawk opened in 2004 as BORG Assimilator (2004 - 2007.) The name was changed to Nighthawk when Cedar Point bought Carowinds from Paramount. Interesting fact not in this video. Nighthawk started out as Stealth at California's Great America. It was Vekoma's first flying dutchman coaster.
You forgot: 2016: Carolina Harbor opens and Plants vs Zombies replaced the Action Theater 2017: Panda Express relocates and Planet Snoopy closes 2018: Camp Snoopy opens with Kiddy Hawk 2019: Blue Ridge Junction opens with 2 new rides: Mountain Gliders and Copperhead Strike and new restaurants: Blue Ridge Country Kitchen and Granny’s Ice Cream Shop 2020: Carowinds closes due to COVID-19
I worked at Carowinds in the late 90's as a 15 year old kid and this brought back alot of memories!
I hate how Carowinds lost all its classic icons.
Rip thunder road

roxxxtar74
The log flume and oaken bucket were my favorite rides. I also liked the sky buckets and monorail too. I was disappointed when they stopped using shuttle buses which would take visitors to the front entrance from the parking lot.
I remember blackbeard's revenge (not the waterslide) and the wild bull.
@@markvolpe2305
I liked Blackbeard's Revenge and The Wild Bull. They were simple rides, but perfect for kids!

How did it do
No mention of all the original Train rides or the Gold Rusher Roller coaster which has survived several decades of changes. The fact it out lasted Thunder Road is amazing, and not how you would have placed bets. A lot of sadness for rides removed that could have been kept. There was plenty of real estate around the park up into the 2000's that was undeveloped countryside.
This isn't right gold rush was the first rollar coaster at carowinds.

Me Too and i miss Thunderroad
You need to update this the new Copperhead Strike came out.
Things have changed since I worked there in 77 and 78.
Yep, lots. My cousin worked at the original Flying Dutchman ride on opening day. You don't hear it mentioned much.

I believe you’re talking about Blackbeard’s Revenge
I take it, the Monorail was removed 1991/1992 because Vortex is where the monorail station used to be
Dean Hooks Jr. I think so. I read somewhere that Vortex is where the monorail station was.
Yeah It Was Double housed The speed way cars Should be brought Back Where vortex is cause majority people don't know how to properly ride Vortex so The Bottom vortex load station was filled In
So Two Rides Were Removed back To back I sorta remember The Speed way cars Before Vortex came In
To read carowinds History on CarowindsTheEarlyyears Is awesome
Then How come the station for Vortex also housed a car attraction?
August 1st 2022 - Southern Star/Frenzoid removed for new rides in 2023.
Great video keep it up
What about the America lift thing that came out in the 1970s

I may have just missed these, but when did Thunder Road and Nighthawk open?
Did you watch the video?
ColeM Geometry Dash you must have missed them, both are in the video.
Thunder Road opened in 1976 and ran for 39 years, closing in 2015.
