Great work, super fascinating to see all the generations in one chart. Best review of this gen I’ve seen so far. Been running ryzen since the 2000 series and updated to very gen. My primary use is software development and got a nice boost from the 9950x around 20% and another 5% from the windows update. Spend way too much time waiting for my computer that very little boost helps. Starting streaming my pc to a Quest 3 recently for gaming, so I can sit beside my son when we game together, works really well :) Main issue was been 4 slots of memory AM5 has issues with clock speeds if it works at all. Also would prefer instead of a pcie 5.0 16x slot, 2 x pcie 4.0 16x slots. Threadripper is just a little too pricey these days.

Yeah, I just thought… what if AMD was like „we just launch them now and let the Public pressure MS“. Just a random Thought of course but it kinda did happen regardless. Doesn’t matter if it was intentionally done by AMD or not.
@@flimermithrandir Well, I think the launch from AMD was prepared since a long time and they were commited to their fabs and the public with the release date. What does surprises me as an IT Pro is this "lack of performance" on Zen CPUs goes back as far as Zen 3 (some reports says even Zen 2 gets some mini-boost), and that nobody saw this until now - except maybe Linux guys who are accustomed to leave any Windows OS in the dust for computing stuff. The speed with which Microsoft did get this update out means that they’ve had this code. They were most likely prioritizing their Windows on ARM work for the launch of those Qualcom laptops.
So processors often come out before the software stack is ready it’s only obvious when you have large architectural changes. It’s a chicken and egg. In order for developers to understand the quirk they need the processor to be out in the wild. But in order for the processor to perform well you need devs to write code for it. Sir, would you kindly include the 1% Lows alongside the average FPS numbers in your future CPU benchmarks? I've found that those lows tell the hidden story.
Don't often see my old 1800X tested, and now having just upgraded it to a 7800x3D it's nice to see some direct comparisons. The trouble is now it just shows I really should upgrade my 1080ti, as that is now running fully maxed out at 100% at 1440p and holding things back. Once you get back on the upgrade treadmill it's difficult to find a good moment to step off!

My Monitors Internal FPS counter used to be very Jumpy and now it's very stable . The Only way I used to Get Smooth Framerates before was if I enabled Vsync .
Like it. Not sure I can wait till next year for x3d. Do we know if this branch prediction thingy affects windows 10? I'd be interested in a limited compare between Win10 and Win11. I've seen no compelling reason to update yet, and only downsides such as with the GUI 'dumbing down' context click. If branch prediction makes win11 faster for gaming.....
AMD board partners are starting to release bios updates that increase the TDP of the 9000 series CPUs. It'll be interesting to see how that effects benchmarks.
In our review of the 9700X we used Ryzen Master to overclock. It bumped up power significantly and helped performance slightly. My advice is to stick with 65W TDP/88W Socket Leo
@@lovingthehardwarethisyea-py1xp The thing is that Linux is outperforming Microsoft windows and its not only on gaming but also productivity workloads . It would be nice if reviewers raised awareness . Very soon Linux will be a GO- to OS for gaming
I have loved Leos coverage of these new processors and this is a great video too. I just think I will wait f or Zen 6 or thew new X3d chips as leo suggested
Being someone who now uses the 7800x3d I am very interested in seeing how the 9800x3d will perform in comparison. I know it should be faster so the real question for me will be not only by how much but whether or not AMD have also managed to make the CPU even more power efficient at the same time. This is especially important when we consider the current line up of 9000 series CPU's,
Probably going to stick with the 5900X at the moment. The whole 2 CCD's and X3D cache needs to have a single button setup to sort scheduling issues out with Windows. And I'm probably going to wait until the 8/16 aka x800 version of Ryzen improves to make somewhat improvement over the Ryzen 9 version, even if it's a few generations behind. So might even give 9000 series a miss, depending on how the 9800X3D does overall in gaming and other tasks. 7800X3D doesn't seem to give much improvement overall so going with cost on moving to a newer socket. (I might be wrong in my thinking but not had a problem in gaming with the 5900X/4080 so far, so it's a not a problem, don't fix scenario)
@@kevinerbs2778 I'm not sure my Corsair H170i will cover most of that HEDT processor. I'm going to wait to see how the 9800X3D looks next year and ponder then. But will give it consideration.
I wish the 5700x was tested too, it's a force of efficiency. Also some more non-ubisoft games being tested would be nice, as we see the performance of other engines.
Have the 5800x3d in a first gen motherboard. It’s fine for what I do, but I suspect in 6 months Zen5 3d and faster memory along with sorted out software will be tempting.

My advice is to stick with 65W TDP/88W Socket

Can you please try Linux distros like Ubuntu for productivity and Nobara or Clear Linux for gaming .
I think that is more a Level 1 techs thing , most people dont game on linux - well I dont think they do......
Linux is meant to run these much better - Microsoft have really helped AMD make a mess of this launch imo.
@@lovingthehardwarethisyea-py1xp The thing is that Linux is outperforming Microsoft windows and its not only on gaming but also productivity workloads .
It would be nice if reviewers raised awareness .
Very soon Linux will be a GO- to OS for gaming
@@BrookesStevenson-vw4xf True , its a mess .And Linux does outperform Microsoft windows in most cases .
I went from 2700X to 5800X3D. Never gets old seeing the insane gaming performance jump :D
Over at The Full Nerd Discord, we were just saying yesterday how interesting it would be if someone ran a test just like this! 🎉
All those years later I'm still very happy with my 5900X.
I'm interested to see how the change in tdp for 9600x/9700x will effect things along with the faster ddr5 support on the x870 boards.
I have loved Leos coverage of these new processors and this is a great video too. I just think I will wait f or Zen 6 or thew new X3d chips as leo suggested
Wise man
Being someone who now uses the 7800x3d I am very interested in seeing how the 9800x3d will perform in comparison. I know it should be faster so the real question for me will be not only by how much but whether or not AMD have also managed to make the CPU even more power efficient at the same time. This is especially important when we consider the current line up of 9000 series CPU's,
I still think you need to benchmark against apple silicon. Is cinebencz available on osx?
Are we reaching the limit of what we reasonable need on the desktop in terms of computing power?
Thank you❤
You're welcome 😊
Yeah, 2 ccd x3d jank is an issue for me aswell
Sounds like you might be better off gwttibg a threadripper 7960x and TRX50 board.
@@kevinerbs2778 eh, for all the issues x3d jank has they're still massively faster than a threadripper when it comes to single thread
@@kevinerbs2778 I'm not sure my Corsair H170i will cover most of that HEDT processor. I'm going to wait to see how the 9800X3D looks next year and ponder then.
But will give it consideration.
Some really interesting Microsoft info. Seems the results change every week at the minute. When is the final release of h2 24 out ?
Somewhere 2025!
😂😂😂
I wish the 5700x was tested too, it's a force of efficiency. Also some more non-ubisoft games being tested would be nice, as we see the performance of other engines.
Have the 5800x3d in a first gen motherboard. It’s fine for what I do, but I suspect in 6 months Zen5 3d and faster memory along with sorted out software will be tempting.
