@@Eva_H The worst thing is learning that Terry Farrell wanted to tone down her participation in the show because she was fed up with Berman complaining that her tits wern't big enough.
Back in April of 1998, I had the fortune of touring the Paramount lot - and my tour group passed the sound stages where DS9 was filming. While there, Alexander Siddig came out in full costume with wet boots; I was on the lookout after that, and have always assumed they were filming “The Sound of Her Voice” that day with the scene on the planet where they found the female captain. Avery Brooks came outside, too, and spoke to a child in our tour group, which made the child’s day; I always admired that he did that.
It's overshadowed by the season finale, but I think "The Sound of Her Voice" is a wonderful episode, and Debra Wilson did a fantastic job as Lisa Cusak. She helped create a full, interesting person using just her voice.
I actually think it complements the finale really well. In the middle of the show it would've been a little "huh, that was a kind of quiet/odd episode", but right before the finale, even without knowing what's coming, you knew it would be high stakes and very action-y, so a sweet and sad quieter character & relationship episode is pretty perfect. As sad and upsetting it was to lose Jadzia and Terry Farrell, I have to say it helped a LOT that Nicole de Boer and Ezri turned out to be so good because her presence ended up serving as a bit of a 'refreshing' feeling for the next season. I think they made some pretty good lemonade out of those lemons.
Notice when Miles does some foreshadowing and says someone might not be there anymore, that the camera lingers on Jadzia just a little longer. You didn’t show that in this edit, but you probably didn’t notice because it is subtle (I only noticed with rewatches myself)😢 .
L class planets - we've seen them, - they're like... north canada / very cold. Quark and Odo got stuck on one once. L class is "barely habitable" with no animal life, but has plant life.
It does crack me up that Julian says he was able to save the symbiant but there was nothing he could do for Jadzia... while she's still in there perfectly cognizant and chatty. I mean, really? Obviously they wanted the dramatic death scene, but even with that, wouldn't it have been more dramatic for Worf to not get to say goodbye?

@@MrDeathpilot I actually think DS9 had some pretty great episodes even in season 1. Voyager takes a lot longer to get there for me and never reaches the height of this or TNG. However my Dad loves Voyager.
@@MrDeathpilot I actually think DS9 started the strongest of the three from this era (24th century Trek). I also think the best seasons of Voyager were in the beginning. The characters were much stronger. They had actual personalities. There were good episodes in the later seasons, and it's maybe the second best series finale Star Trek has had (though I can understand why some people prefer DS9's). But overall VOY had really inconsistent quality.
spoiler just in case someone hasn't watch the ep yet and see the comments... . . . . . . . . Terry wanted to step back and be on a little less in season 7 instead of a main character, the producers were like ... nope full character or we write you out. I love this finale despite how bleak it is. I would have thought losing the station was as bad as things could get, but losing the wormhole/prophets-not to mention Jadzia (dead) and Sisko (on leave)-is ever worse! I'm impressed they were able to up the stakes, in a sense. And that's quite a place to start from for next season. 46:18 Indeed, Jadzia is in all but 3 episodes (2 if you count mirror-Jadzia). Quite a loss. On the other hand, _(since you've seen the first several S7 episodes already, this is not a spoiler anymore)_ when you have a joined Trill as a main character it would be missing a big opportunity to never recast them, so I'm glad that we get to see a new Dax. I'm not at all glad about _why_ it happened, though: exec producer Rick Berman harassed Terry Farrell, and she wanted to act on other shows. She asked for a diminished role-guest, like Rom or Cassidy-rather than to be totally killed off, but in the end she did not renew her contract.
She was pretty major so it might have been difficult to reduce her role. Although I guess they could have said Trill/Klingon pregnancies are so unprecedented she had to go off for medical leave at times.
Ollie, I really hope you ignore what others have ever said… and give a chance for startrek voyager. It’s a great series. And is focused more on the ships adventures and the family they build over the series. The importance of their actions within the series. There’s many fun episodes and a few returning characters you’ve seen in other series. Hope you enjoy the rest of DS9 and hope that you like the ending. It’s kinda epic. Love your reactions to all the startrek so far. Wish I knew you to have watched with me when it all came out. You’re a great human being sir. Thanks for sharing with us all.
Yes agreed. Voyager and Enterprise both were also great series. The idea of Voyager was a good one and they assembled a great cast. It's a great show just like the previous 3. I think he'll like it a great deal.
People been doing that oddworld? Boy nobody stops people from watching Star Trek like Star Trek fans eh? Voyager may not be one of my favorite series but the more they make, the higher it goes up in the rankings. Voyager honestly has a lot of cool aliens and is probably the most bat**** Trek series overall. Personally I love DS9, Enterprise, and TNG. Roly, I think you may end up loving Enterprise and I hope I'm right about that! Watch Voyager too! Beyond that, I'll make my recommendations like what a couple years from now when you get to newer Trek? Ok then have a good one.
When the season finale first aired I was in the process of moving so I had to tape it so I could watch it later. After my move I was at my friend’s house and I still had not seen the episode yet and my friends mom said what did you think about what happened to Dax? I said what do you mean? What happened to Dax and she totally spoiled it for me! I was like WHAT! I am glad we didn’t spoil it for you because I was devastated 🖖😢
Maybe you should've said "I haven't watched it yet, so I do not want to know what you mean about what happened to Dax" :P But in seriousness, sorry that one was spoiled for you. Thank you for reminding me 🖖"vulcan salute" emoji is an official Unicode character :) May Dax's memory live long and prosper.
I think what annoys me the most is that Dax dies before Star Trek Insurrection and Star Trek nemesis, yet we never got any scene talking to worf about her, like she never existed. I know that there were thousands of officers dying in this war, husbands, wives, sons, daughters but i would have enjoyed worf getting a subspace call from picard or riker or hell, the entire Enterprise showing up just to visit worf for a 10 min cameo, i mean his wife just died Picard, put down your Earl Grey Tea and Warp 9 to Ds9 🤣
For this you just have to accept the production and writing reality that they are two separate branches of the universe at this point, and all those conversations happened off screen. Would've been cool yeah.
Terry Farrell wanted out of her contract to pursue other opportunities. That's why they killed off Jadzia. I actually named a cat after the character back in the day. Long dead, of course. Really wish she'd stuck with the show for one more season, but, oh well. This was at a time before shows really got blood thirsty with their characters, so killing her off like that was a big deal.
Terry Farrell was fired for asking for more money in her contract, she also wanted more freedom to take other acting roles, Paramount refused and they fired her
Back before DS9 started, there were details coming out about the setting and the characters. It was known before it aired that one of the characters was a Trill, but it was also mentioned that the actors were on a six season contract. Given that TNG ran for seven seasons, it seemed obvious at the time that they were planning on killing the character off at the end of season 6. In reality, it seems that was not the plan but it was out-of-universe matters that caused it to happen.
@@jerodast This is true, but the production planning cycle is ahead of the release cycle. We already knew that TNG would go on for a seventh season and that Paramount wanted it to end there. As I think Berman put it in an interview, they thought seven seasons was "enough". There was no reason to think that they wouldn't try to achieve seven seasons of DS9.
I kinda wish they had dax die a few episodes earlier when she and worf went on that mission. Here, it was pointless there it might have had more meaning
@@LadyBeyondTheWall If nothing else, Target Audience will eventually get there, they'll probably start Voyager sometime in 2026. I think there's a decent chance with Jen Murray eventually as well. She might actually get there sooner since she's ahead of them now and she's starting DS9 in release order alongside TNG. I believe if DS9 does well enough for her channel she'll be convinced to add VOY alongside it as well. The other channels doing Star Trek now are probably not starting VOY any time soon, if ever, but there's still a chance. Ollie has said in the past that he wants to do Voyager, so I assume that's what will happen after he finishes DS9.
terry farrell wanted to remain in the 7th season but not be in it as much but she was given a choice to stay or leave nothing in the middle quite sad she was treated that way
Lisa's voice was one I recognized from "Mad TV". The actress has since done a good deal of voice work it seems, including being the first African American to voice Daisy Duck. Anyway the set up at times made it feel a little like a radio play, but in a good way. It was a sweet episode with a clear element of sadness and melancholy, but nicely humane. Jadzia's death might have been known due to conflicts the actress was having, but still fairly disappointing. Poor Worf! The mother of his son, K'ehylar, was murdered by Duras and now his wife is murdered. He has bad luck with women. Also it's sad the actress and the show ended on such bad terms. After this she was on Becker. The Pagh-Wraith stuff gives the show a horror-movie vibe that I personally was not wanting. And I've been on record that Gul Dukat going from "every day villainy to cartoonish super-villainy" didn't work for me. But the exchange between Weyoun and Damar on real vs false gods is kind of amusing. I feel like I should say some on the space battles, but I'll stop here.
I really like the sound of her voice, especially the speech with O’Brien right at the end because it really puts things into perspective by the end of tears of the prophets Speaking of Tears of the prophets fuck you Rick Berman, it’s really a shame because Ira Steven Behr turned round and said if I’ve known that Terry wanted to appear in less episodes I would’ve written around it. Jadzia is my favourite character, it’s just a shame that the first half of the next season and final season of DS9 isn’t that great, at least to me anyway. I probably only liked one episode from the first half of the season and then about halfway through it gets pretty good.
@ it made me pretty sad to be honest, I was disappointed because I do like the Berman era of Trek. I mean, the closest thing we’ve got in modern day is Star Trek Prodigy, tell me when I’m telling lies!
@ I actually like a lot of the Berman era too, though I'm not sure how much Berman had to do with it. Going by other things I've seen him do I might be more of a Michael Piller fan RIP.

I think it was good, actually. There should be some real stakes. And if they were going to kill any character, better to kill the one that has the potential to come back with a new host.
They treated Terri Farrel so badly in the final negotians, trying to make her take a pay cut in order to come back, she said no and they killed Jadzhia because ot it.
I'm not saying that's not how it happened but that is a one-sided retelling. And the fact that the same thing happened to her on the show Becker does lead you to believe a certain other storyline

Rest in Peace Jadzia.
@36:35 no spoilers here, but if you think that shot is amazing, wait until the last episode of the series!
Notice when Miles does some foreshadowing and says someone might not be there anymore, that the camera lingers on Jadzia just a little longer. You didn’t show that in this edit, but you probably didn’t notice because it is subtle (I only noticed with rewatches myself)😢 .
It's more that it cuts to her first right. It makes it seem like it's just cutting around to everyone's somber reaction, but she and Worf are first.
L class planets - we've seen them, - they're like... north canada / very cold. Quark and Odo got stuck on one once. L class is "barely habitable" with no animal life, but has plant life.
A while back, you were concerned about Dax.
@@silikon2 You obviously haven't been around terminally ill people before they die.
A friend of mine who has terminal colon cancer was walking around his end of life facility chatting with people 3 hours before he died.
My brother's former partner who died of breast cancer told her husband that she was just going for a nap before he found her 2 hours later having passed.
@@silikon2 I feel like it would have been more powerful if Dax had died in "Change of Heart." This way didn't feel worthy of her or Worf.
@@janleonard3101 SPOILERS FOR SEASON 7
It's funny that's actually a plot point when Worf needs to do an epic mission to get her into Sto'vokor because she didn't die in battle.
Andor was an important Star Trek planet before Cassian Andor, nyah! (But yeah one of the top 3 Star Wars production ever, no doubt.)
If you think about it Sisko lost TWO Dax friends. Kerzon then Jadzia which he had grown to love & respect as he did Kerzon.
VOYAGER! VOYAGER! Please keep on the Star Trek Train after Ds9 season 7
I'll never understand the love for Voyager, but to each his own.
@@rjcurrie61 Like DS-9, it had a slow start. Maybe you just didn't stick with it long enough.
@@rjcurrie61 Agreed. Voyager is awful.
Yes, the writers foreshadowed that everyone will die some day and we will all face grief and loss.
I wonder what this episode would have been like if there wasn't a contract dispute between Jadzia's actress and the studio.
Before the season finale aired I heard Terry was leaving the show, so I knew she was gonna die before I saw the episode. Total bummer.
The Sisko paid for this one.

Terry wanted to step back and be on a little less in season 7 instead of a main character, the producers were like ... nope full character or we write you out. She couldn't commit and they killed her off. One of my most hated deaths in all of Trek *grumps*
I never was too crazy about that voice episode. And of course the season 6 finale? Well that speaks for itself.
And PS I like your new intro dude.
I think less of a new intro and more of a special edition, just for the finale intro :)
The strangest time travel episode I've ever seen.
Voyager is awesome.
The haters are small, just loud. Voyager is my comfort trek.
Voyager is great. It just has a lot of missed opportunities for it to be amazing. But it’s still a solid show!
Not sure if you are aware, but I just saw you viewed Dirty Harry. The actor who Played Scorpio played Garrack.
Terry Farrell was fired for asking for more money in her contract, she also wanted more freedom to take other acting roles, Paramount refused and they fired her
Rick Berman was more the issue than Paramount ever was.
Thanks, Oliver! 🖖
Before DS9 started, TNG hadn't actually run for 7 seasons yet.
You are my favorite Star Trek reactor! I love how invested you are in the show and the characters.
I kinda wish they had dax die a few episodes earlier when she and worf went on that mission. Here, it was pointless there it might have had more meaning
I'm like four episodes into the next season and I'm still missing Dax
Hope to see you watch Voyager.
Hate watch would be more accurate.
Please please please do voyager. I think you'll like the relationships and stories amongst the crew.
Seriously! I need SOMEONE to do Voyager and Enterprise! Please for the love of god. 😂
DON'T SKIP VOYAGER OLLIE! DON'T DO IT! 😅 SCREW THOSE VOYAGER HATERS!
I wouldn't say that I hate Voyager. I could just never get into the characters the some way I did with DS9.
@@rjcurrie61 Same. Just that compared to the other series in the franchise Voyager isn't as good as most of them,.
Ollie has said in the past that he wants to do Voyager, so I assume that's what will happen after he finishes DS9.
terry farrell wanted to remain in the 7th season but not be in it as much but she was given a choice to stay or leave nothing in the middle quite sad she was treated that way
Surprised he hasn't been spoiled?!
I really like the sound of her voice, especially the speech with O’Brien right at the end because it really puts things into perspective by the end of tears of the prophets
Speaking of Tears of the prophets fuck you Rick Berman, it’s really a shame because Ira Steven Behr turned round and said if I’ve known that Terry wanted to appear in less episodes I would’ve written around it.
Jadzia is my favourite character, it’s just a shame that the first half of the next season and final season of DS9 isn’t that great, at least to me anyway. I probably only liked one episode from the first half of the season and then about halfway through it gets pretty good.
Yeah. I think if her allegations were true Berman was a sexist jerk and petty.
@ that’s fair too.
Wasn’t basics part one and two his last contribution (pillar) because he said he didn’t wanna do Star Trek for the rest of his career.
The two saddest episodes episodes of the series.
Justice for Jadzia! 😢
Jadzia's contract was not renewed
...RICK BERMANS ...GREATEST MISTAKE! 💔😢💔
I think it was good, actually. There should be some real stakes. And if they were going to kill any character, better to kill the one that has the potential to come back with a new host.
What is it with Ricks???
They treated Terri Farrel so badly in the final negotians, trying to make her take a pay cut in order to come back, she said no and they killed Jadzhia because ot it.
I'm not saying that's not how it happened but that is a one-sided retelling. And the fact that the same thing happened to her on the show Becker does lead you to believe a certain other storyline
@@harrypothead42024 whats the other storyline?
i think it was the greatest thing for the story though.
@@joeeyaura We don't know what they would have done if they hadn't killed her off tho..It was tough to accept Ezri, but im glad she was in it
@@mando8469 i kind of doubt they would have done anything huge with jadzhia since there was very little they did with her up til then, shaking things up really made for some interesting story lines.

All these years later and it STILL pisses me off!
Rick Berman sucks. He just does.
Wait a minute...WHAT?! We got VOYAGER HATERS in these comments? Hey Ollie? DON'T LISTEN TO THESE VOYAGER HATERS! 🤣 Please don't listen to these Haters Ollie!
I'm still scrolling through the comments but at this point this is the fourth "don't listen to the Voyager haters" comment I've seen and I have yet to see an actual anti-Voyager comment. Andor is also the name of a Star Wars character and the title of a Disney+ Star Wars series featuring the character.

@@bradbarter8314 Andor might actually be the best thing in Star Wars since Empire Strikes Back. It's Star Wars for grown-ups, though, so some fans don't like it.
Didn't see THAT coming, huh? Actually, looking back, they kind of telegraphed it. Still, it's always a shock when they do that to a major character.
It was pretty widely know n at the time that Terry Farrell was leaving so they may have seen no reason to make it a huge surprise.
can you imagine how it felt back then, when we had to wait for some six months to get the next season?!
It was about 3.5 months. The season 6 finale aired on June 17; season 7 premiered on Sept. 30. Although, that was the US and Canada. It may have been different elsewhere.
