That's why I was glad he got out when he did--he took control of his legacy before they could ruin it. imo
@@blkd25 the unpredictability of the Attitude Era is what made it so great. In the past, faces always won the main event at Wrestlemania but 2000 was the first time that didn't happen.
The reason was that with Steph and HHH getting more power, they were firing all of the "Vince Russo guys" like D'Lo Brown, Gangrel, Headbangers, Tiger Ali Singh, Mean Street Posse, Mideon & Viscera, etc. In Val Venis's and Al Snow's cases, they were given bad creative but they weren't fired. It really pissed me off and made me feel good that I quit watching WWF by that point. I was watching AJPW (All Japan) as my #1 promotion in 2000, followed by WCW #2 and ECW #3.
I watched WWF from 88-92 bowed out after that, started watching early 2000 again before bowing out again end of 2002… I think I caught the best times in the company’s history. Both periods were fantastic.
@@historian3290 Closest thing to a time machine is the WWE Network. Every episode of every show is available there. Including WCW & ECW b/c the most significant thing you missed is the peak of the Monday Night Wars.
2000 the year the rock became the top guy in wwe and became one of the biggest and most popular stars in pop culture and also became the top 3 biggest draw in wrestling history along side hogan and Austin
Ah, 2000! Here in the UK, I'd only seen a few WCW events on TV throughout 1998-99, but early in 2000 the first episode of Heat aired - and it immediately seemed a lot more like my cup of tea. When the second or third episode of Heat then showed that epic Mankind/Cactus Jack promo for the Royal Rumble, I was hooked!
2000 will always have a special place in my heart, in fact I started watching on April 10, 2000 the night The Rock defeated both the Big Boss Man & Bull Buchanan in a Handicap Steel Cage Match.
As someone who started watching WWE in 2003 as a 6 year old, it seems from watching these videos that Triple H was never really the face of the company, but always like the top antagonist or something. Like he fared better as a heel than as a face. Really cannot remember a time the guy was presented as the hero at the end of a PPV lol, but he's still a legend in my eyes!
I was 8 years old in 2000. WWF and wcw was my life lol. Royal rumble 2000 was shown on channel 4 for free, I stayed up to watch it as an 8 year old even tho I had school the next day. I still remember that day clearly. Life was sooo good ❤
This series started with 1990 - The first Wrestlemania was in 1985, but to most the foundation of WWF was Wrestlemania 3 in 1987 - could you do 1987, 1988 & 1989
@@pantherhd1 1987 I was 12 and on my 2nd year of being a WWF fan. Arguably bigger than 2000, as EVERYONE wanted to hear if Hogan could actually beat Andre, even a radio station in Seattle announced it was Hogan who won (I was shocked to hear it myself!), and every episode of SNME throughout the year was must-see. 1998 was better than 2000 imo, 1999 was up there too, since us wrestling nerds were college age and everyone was watching WWF again.

I did the same bro, followed the Hulkamaniac era WCW more out of curiosity but still watched both. I have a vivid memory of like 1978 or so, turning the channel knob (antiquity lol) on my grandparents TV and coming across what I now know as a battle royal and it had Andre in it. That was it until my bf in 4th grade turned me on to WWF right after Mania 2. I stopped watching around 2006, but to this day read the news and did check out AEW for its first year. I still have no idea what that was I saw in 1978 (I had to have been 4 or so), prob Georgia Championship Wrestling, but we didnt have cable then, so...🤷♂️ Surprised I didnt get bit by the bug then!
The year 2000 in the World Wrestling Federation was a great and cool year for me after I made when I was ten years old. I love watching the WWF when I got home from school I watched SmackDown on Thursday nights on UPN and Raw Is War on Monday nights on the USA Network. I watched everything that the WWF Superstars are in them; the commercials, the Chef Boyardeee, the RC Royal Coda soda regular or diet, the Outback Steakhouse, TV shows ,movies, the WWF Shopzone, everything. Stone Cold Steve Austin The Rock Triple H The Undertaker Kane Kurt Angle Chris Jericho Mick Foley and Eddie Guerrero Edge and Christian The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz are the reason, the main reason I love watching pro wrestling including the WWF in late 1999 and 2000 that was very cool to watch and it brings back memories and nostalgia I remembered. And the World Wrestling Federation still beat WCW World Championship Wrestling in the TV ratings each and every week.
Ah 2000, where Triple H had a prototype of his reign of terror, permanently solidifying him as one of the best heels of his generation. With the Rock, Triple H, Taker, Kurt, and Austin all being legitimate main event contenders, 2001 had a lot of momentum going into it as any one of them could've been the torch bearer. Alas, 2001 had other plans for three of those five, and it marked the beginning of the end of of a legendary era.
Yes!!!!! I attended backlash 2000 live arena the rock won the belt my favorite year of the rock in the business because he worked full time that year every raw and smack down and every ppv and stone cold return was the icing on the cake
Triple H is truly one tough S.O.B. man. The guy tore his quad against Chris Jericho, kept wrestling regardless, and took a brutal Walls of Jericho on the announce table.
I know he get a lot of hate for 2002-2003 run, but he has been apart of a lot of great matches and moments hell he was the ultimate heel to Austin and rock, I dnt think no one could of been a better villain for them than HHH besides Vince McMahon
I watched the entire Attitude Era over again back when it was on the Network and honestly the year 2000 wasn't as good as I remembered it. I wouldn't say it was at it's peak creatively either. The talent on the roster was at it's peak but the creative was definitely lacking. For starters, in 2000, they toned down the story and edginess in favor of matches. In 98 and 99 all the talent had their own individual storylines where in 2000 most of them had no real storyline to get behind. In 2000 the storylines focused mostly on the main event which left much of the mid card having to rely on the strength of their gimmicks to get or stay over(Godfather with his hoes, Dudley's with their tables, the Hardy Boyz Edge & Christian with their high flying stunts, Too Cool and Rikishi with their dancing). Those who didn't have a strong gimmicks got lost in the shuffle(Bob Holly, D Lo Brown, Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn, Billy Gunn etc). Those whose gimmicks were too edgy(Val Venis, Godfather, Mr. Ass and most of Dx) also became casualties to the company having gone public and slowly getting rid of their offensive characters. The Mcmahon/Helmsley storyline in 2000 started off strong but much like with the higher power storyline got ruined by adding to much Mcmahons. Then there's the fact that a lot of the main talents were grossly misused. Jericho didn't have any real memorable storyline that year. Taker comes back with a new gimmick and the creative have no real clue what to do with him outside of just having him feud with the Rock for the belt. His next feud was with Angle but the feud was about Angle spilling milk on Taker's bike. They had no idea what to do with Kane, Big Show, X-pac and Road Dogg after the Mcmahon/Helmsley story. Even Rock's booking was suspect. I mean the Rock was the biggest talent in the company in 2000 yet you have him in a main event where the main storyline isn't about him but about a love triangle between HHH, Stephanie and Angle. The only guys who really had spectacular booking were HHH, Foley and Angle. That's not even mention how they botched up the Austin return storyline by making Rikishi the driver. So I definitely wouldn't say the creative was at it's peak in 2000.
@@blueblur2273 Overrated is an overused term. Some of the storylines were lame but overall the WWF was on fire in 2000. It's like the could do no wrong. Unlike 1998 and 1999 (until late in the year), the WWF in 2000 actually had a good midcard and tag team division.
@@garynubipwek3178 Not only that the original WCW and ECW died, which left the WWF with no competition. The Rock was on his way out of wrestling to Hollywood, and Triple H got hurt and would be gone for the rest of the year.

Rock was one of the first to kinda change that narrative. He left at a very young age, with his health intact and the rights to his name. It's about control and respect! I don't think Vince or Triple H had much respect for Rock's wrestling career. That's why I was glad he got out when he did--he took control of his legacy before they could ruin it. imo
@@blkd25 the unpredictability of the Attitude Era is what made it so great. In the past, faces always won the main event at Wrestlemania but 2000 was the first time that didn't happen.
If you noticed in the beginning of 2000 the roster was so stacked. But by the end of 2000, the roster was half gone.
@@albalog2449 Those guys weren't big names. Most of the Attitude Era's main eventers and top midcarders were still on the roster in 2001-03.
I loved when Mick came back as commissioner! Better days were looking up 😅
The biggest negatives I'd say are the in-ring absences of Austin, Taker, & Foley. The Monday Night Wars was also a shell of its former self.
@@lexkanyima2195 That's the point.
Yeah 2000 was when WWF was the most talked about thing globally but it lacked some big characters

I watched WWF from 88-92 bowed out after that, started watching early 2000 again before bowing out again end of 2002… I think I caught the best times in the company’s history. Both periods were fantastic.
Give '97 to '99 a chance though. '87 was also significant.

2000-2002 were the best years in prp wrestling terms of star power and character work.
1998-2001
I remember all of these storylines, thank you for the reminder and nostalgia!
Channel 4 had the Royal Rumble live for the first time also. Great memories.
These yearly summaries are sooooo good I need 03-present as I fell out of interest but now my son is interested and I have no clue what I missed
2000 will always have a special place in my heart, in fact I started watching on April 10, 2000 the night The Rock defeated both the Big Boss Man & Bull Buchanan in a Handicap Steel Cage Match.
The buildup to the Triple H Vs. Cactus Jack match at the Royal Rumble was the first major sign how great the year was going to be.
One of my favourite years of WWF. One thing I will say is Wrestlemania wasn't the best but pretty much every other PPV was great.
duuuuude! ive been yearning for someone to just summarize feuds and timelines so i know where to jump into! THANK YOOOOUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!
You need to go on peacock and start from 1997
They pushed him as a top face in 2002 during his comeback from a major injury.
He definitely wasn’t believable as a baby face he’s the greatest heel in WWF history in my eyes.
@@moversrus4048 His best face run was when he became the leader of DX in the late 90s.
Oh indeed best Heel of all time when he was at his best
Man this channel is the best channel in the field of wrestling documents ever 👍
I was 8 years old in 2000. WWF and wcw was my life lol. Royal rumble 2000 was shown on channel 4 for free, I stayed up to watch it as an 8 year old even tho I had school the next day. I still remember that day clearly. Life was sooo good ❤
"The game is first to win the main event of the WrestleMania"
Yokozuna: oh so I lost??
Tbf, Yokozuna didn't even keep the title for 5 minutes
This series started with 1990 - The first Wrestlemania was in 1985, but to most the foundation of WWF was Wrestlemania 3 in 1987 - could you do 1987, 1988 & 1989
1980 to 1989
@@pantherhd1 1987 I was 12 and on my 2nd year of being a WWF fan.
@@smeagolbeagle2316 thank you for letting me know bout this your experience.I’m Born in 1988 but remember wrestling well in 1990 when was 2.That’s how wrestling helps with the mind.My favourite wrestling years are 1987 to 1994 in WWF.I was WCW/NWA fan to and WCW later om
I thought the same! 1985 or even 84 was so pivotal with the Hogan WWF...
This amazing to watch since I didn't start watching WWE until 2003
The year 2000 was a great time🕛 to be a wrestling fan. As the Attitude Era in WWE has set the wrestling world🤼🌎🌍🌏 on fire🔥 in that time🕛.
He's easily the greatest heel of all-time. And I don't use the word "easily" lightly.
You can't beat this era it was too big my favorite year of the attitude era was indeed 2000.
The year 2000 is my favorite WWE year and the Attitude Era ever ! 🥰

2000 is my favorite year in WWF history
Triple H is truly one tough S.O.B. man. The guy tore his quad against Chris Jericho, kept wrestling regardless, and took a brutal Walls of Jericho on the announce table.
I know he get a lot of hate for 2002-2003 run, but he has been apart of a lot of great matches and moments hell he was the ultimate heel to Austin and rock, I dnt think no one could of been a better villain for them than HHH besides Vince McMahon
Wrong year though.
playlist skips 1999 / was it copyright? jams up the flow. great videos
2000 was not WWE's best year. Was it good? Yes. But I do feel like people overrate it.
@@kevinlee9929 I use to be one of those people until I watched it again.
Yeah now that you say that 2000 is kinda overrated
@@blueblur2273 Overrated is an overused term. Some of the storylines were lame but overall the WWF was on fire in 2000. It's like the could do no wrong. Unlike 1998 and 1999 (until late in the year), the WWF in 2000 actually had a good midcard and tag team division.
You guys are idiots if you actually think 2000 is overrated

2001 was one of the worst years in wwe history thanks to the invasion storyline...
@@garynubipwek3178 Not only that the original WCW and ECW died, which left the WWF with no competition. The Rock was on his way out of wrestling to Hollywood, and Triple H got hurt and would be gone for the rest of the year.
@@jerelmintertrue... it sucks how almost all of wcws top stars were still under contract and getting paid by turner/time warner and didnt bother re signing, only to sign with wwe one at a time when their contracts expired after. So much potential with the invasion story where it could have been the best year for wrestling fans but instead it turned into yet another mcmahon family bullshit storyline
@@garynubipwek3178 That storyline was botched, but there are way too many bad years in WWE history for 2001 to be one of the worst. When WWE on it's peak. So many legends shared the ring. 🔥
As a child in nyc during 2000. Every discount store had mostly WWF Merch as in WWF birthday Ballon’s , WWF Shirts , WWF Halloween costumes & Masks. WWF DVDS.. WWF & WCW Action figures, WWF School folders. WCW couldn’t compete . The smartest thing WWF DID was flood the stores with everything WWF while WCW failed to capitalize .
