Start a new job tomorrow at hortons emergency ambulance , I've always been able to read a tape just not as quick . A piece of paper, pencil and repeating how you said it in your video continuous times HELPS A TON !!! 5 minutes is all it took! Thanks bro knowledge is power and knowing is half the battle!!

Love your channel. I have spent 50+ years trying to teach coworkers how to read a tape. This is exactly how I TRY to teach them. Some will never learn, and some don't want to. Anyway, glad I found your channel. Interesting hacks and tips.

As a German who uses the metric system, I have finally understood what your Americans always use for strange subdivisions.
For those who still haven't understood, use the metric system!

Glenn! Thank you so much. you've broken this down to it simplest form. It is the best video I've seen on how to read a ruler. I teach stagecraft middle school students. Your explanation demonstrates a visual and practical application with what they are being taught in their math classes. Thank you very much.

men is very easy, 1km is 1000 meters and 1 meter =10 decimeters =100 centimeters = 1000 milimeters....
      1 inch is 2.54 centimeters
      1foot is 30.48 centimeters
      1 yard is 94.44 centimeters
1 miles is 1609.34 meters or 1.6 km

ok so...... I really don't like to comment on a lot of things on youtube because...... well let's just leave it there but, watching this video reminded me how i was taught to read a tape measurer years ago but forgot. But it all came back to me after i watched this. Glenn, I watch all of your vids for this reason YOU ALWAYS DO THINGS THE SIMPLEST WAY TO YOU!! phew i guess you can tell how much that means to me although a lot of the ways aren't always as simple to me just because my skill level is no way near where your's is but i love the fact that you do things YOUR WAY (and that way is phenomenal). Don't want to rant, I just appreciate you dude. I have to get some of your plans once i go back to work this corona is real lol. I'm done.

Reading a tape measure, both standard and metric should be drummed into our kids heads from kindergarten to their senior year of high school..It would give them more confidence to tackle more home repairs and some remodeling around their future homes or apartments.

If you look closely at the line marks, the half inch mark is half the length of a one inch mark, the quarter inch mark is one quarter the length of the a inch mark and half the length of a half inch mark, and so on. In other words, the length of each line provides a hint to it's purpose.

It's a trap. Most people think others know how to read a tap, so they feel that they should know how to read a tap, so they never learn how to read a tap, because they already should know how to read a tap. And now I know how to read a tap.
