Me 4 days ago on Netflix: let's watch the first episode again just for shits & giggles. Me today almost done watching the whole thing again: I regret nothing.
The Law Of Equivalent Exchange : You give the show 21.3 hours of your life and in return it gives you the best 21.3 hours you could ever spend on anime Seems like an amazing deal to me
@@gucciplug8160 YES!!!!! KEEP GOING, trust me it gets better, it will be one of ur top shows by the end of the show, well at least it was mine and many others
Im reading the manga of AOT and the manga of HxH tbh, Id still prefer FMAB not because of nostalgia or shit but because the episodes are so consistent with a lot of great episodes , that I dont see any major flaws too. Unlike AOT 1st and 2nd season , or HxH Greed Island or Election Arc. I just prefer FMAB imo because of it's consistency on it's episodez
If there was classic Manga you would put 5 instantly, FMA, Beserk, Shaman King*Is actually not like 10 episodes/chapters*, One piece, and either Ranma 1/2 or Inuyasha or Yu yu hakusho *Either sex comedy or shonen with cat dude or shonen with spirit fingers*
The only negative thing about this anime is that once you watched it, you will be spending a lot of time looking for shows to watch, because nothing seems to be on its level.
I was convinced to watch the anime halfway the video, so I went to do that. Now, three days later, I come here in tears after finishing it. I knew I did well trusting this.
This was honestly the first anime that didn't make me feel like I was staring at a screen out of obligation. After the first few episodes it pulls you in and makes you want to watch the next episode even though it's five in the morning and you have to be somewhere at seven.
Exactly! I've never been able to enjoy any other anime without playing it at double speed following my viewing of FMA and FMA:B. No other show has ever hooked me in like that. The closest were MHA, Tokyo Ghoul, and Madoka Magica, but I could barely get through those (Madoka Magica excluded from that statement). FMA was actually my first anime, FMA:B my second, so it's ruined almost every other long anime for me. The emotional depth is unmatched.
This is big facts, I always feel like when I watch anime I have to fight through the episodes to get to a good part, but fmab just pulled me in and was good the whole way through I was addicted lmao
@@ferrin6326 May I recommand you Ghost In The Shell - Stand Alone Complex ? (the first two seasons, didn't watch the third one yet). It's a very different style than FMAB so I don't know if it'll suit you but easily the same quality level. The graphics are a bit older though but they are overall great anyway.

Major Armstrong is literally my wallpaper. This secret technique of writing and creating outstanding anime has been passed down the Armstrong line for GENERATIONS!!!
one of my favorite shots in all of anime is the one of a bloodied Hawkeye, a brutally injured Armstrong, and a (spoiler alert) mustang, standing side by side in the final battle of the show, still fighting despite the fact that any one of them could have quit at this point given the severity of their individual situations.
Yup, the leg was lost during the transmutation. We would not have been able to bind Al’s soul to the armor if he was missing an arm and i actually think he offered his arm directly to truth when doing the seal

I finished this just seconds ago. Took me 3 days. For some reason I'm not as impressed as I thought I would be by the Number 1 rated anime if all time. It's amazing, amazing enough to make me watch 64 episodes in 3 days, but it didn't feel like the best thing ever. Idk why I'm even writing this comment lol
The biggest praise I can give this show is that when I rewatched it over quarantine with my brother, I convinced my second brother to start it as well as we were finishing it up, and the three of us ended up re-watching the entire show all the way through a second time. And it was just as compelling and interesting even though we'd just seen it a couple of weeks earlier.
I discovered FMAB this year and I fell in love with it. It's a fantastic, an incredible anime and my favorite now. I recommand it to everyone, it's a true masterpiece.
YESSSS ME TOO AND I HAVE ALREADY SEEN IT 3 TIMES, WAYCHED THE ORIGINAL SHOW, AND CONQUER OF SHAMBALLA! Did I mention I did all of this within a month? No? Oh okay
I keep trying to get into it but I just can't. IDK why but I just find it boring. Edit: before anybody says that I haven't watched enough, I'm 25 episodes in and can't find it in me to want to watch it further.
If FMA: Brotherhood is a 10/10, the manga is a 15/10. Arguably the best shounen action manga ever published based on the tightness of its plot and depth of its characters, and the sheer brilliance of Arakawa's writing and art.
I don't think FMAB anime is 10/10. Is the manga significantly different from the anime? The selling point of FMAB is that it's canon while the first anime wasn't (after the first half or so).
@@kyledubisz2695 FMAB is very shit actually. I was surprised the original story was that bad, maybe it was better laid out in the manga? The adaptation is shit and if the story in the manga is the same then I doubt it's much better. The first FMA was way more than action. FMAB started well but just went downhill after a while. I'm not surprise it gets so much hype though: par for the course for terrible overhyped anime in this day and age. Watch the first one if you haven't. The stories diverge radically after a while so it's not like you know where it's headed. Watch the animated movie too (that's the real ending for the first FMA).
Shafer Hart man this is proof that there are haters to literally everything. I get saying fmab is overrated and such but to say that such an enjoyable well written and VERY PRECISE attention to detail show is garbage is ridiculous. Atleast appreciate the consistent characters and themes surrounding the enemies. (Such as each sin they fight is reflective of their own emotional conflicts. Like armstong fights sloth cause he practiced sloth during the ishvallen war instead of acting out against the military. Just one example of many). Theres so many layers to the show thats just a testament to the amount of care and attention that went into this show. If you cant appreciate that than idk what you appreciate. May i ask what are your favorite shows so i can get a idea of what u enjoy?
Another reason why FMAB will forever be iconic to me, is that it managed to deliver a message about morals & navigate the topic of faith/religion in a manner that wasn't preachy or cheesy, but *wholesome* and *earned* .
By the mere thumbnail you convinced me to watch Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood for the sixth time. Thanks Anime Pope, your advices are always full of wisdom!
There's a *reason* why FMAB is one of the only anime I have ever watched from start to finish and was one of the only times where I actually understood what it meant to binge watch a show.
And then there is Hohenheim. He deserves his own series explaining why he’s such a good character. Edit: after a year of writing this comment, it has struck up quite a debate. One of the main reasons I believe Hohenheim to be such a good character is because of the contrast between him and Father. Father, or rather, The Drawf in the Flask, conveys most of the deadly sins at some point in the show: he was glutton for the souls of humans, he was greedy for power, he showed wrath, especially when meeting the Truth, his pride caused him to believe he was better than everyone, he envied humans, and his sloth caused him to rely on minions. Hohenheim is the complete opposite though, as he conveys every good virtue throughout the show: he showed chastity and remained loyal to his wife, he was charitable to the people of Liore, as well as Izumi, he was a diligent worker whilst he was reconstructing Liore, he never turned to drink, he was patient with people, he was kind to everyone he met, and although he was the most powerful man alive, he was humble. But there was one scene where he does convey wrath, and that was when Father mocks Edward and Alphonse.
I wouldn't go that far in either direction, but based on his character (motives, backstory, etc.) He is a pretty good character all-in-all even if his writing and interactions with ed and al are a little dull.
@@dustysandwich6560 uh what? Even before I watched anime, I'd heard of fullmetal. It's older so it's not talked about as much anymore. The only anime I heard name-dropped more than fullmetal (which isn't saying much, I wasn't really in the anime circle) was attack on titan. I'm pretty sure everyone in the anime community has either seen it or heard it's name. It's like Avatar in cartoon communities.
I must say all the relationships ( platonic and romantic) in the show are just written so well. I absolutely worship Mustang and Hawkeyes relationship and I just love the show in general ( also for people fighting in the comments about which version is better, both are good in their own way)
@Noel Hann Because his rank is equivalent to a major, other military personnel refer to him as such. Mustang is a Colonel, but he still has an alchemist title. Major Alex Louis Armstrong, Strong-Arm Alchemist is his full name and title. Ed similarly has one, but he is always called by his Alchemist title, but he is technically Major Edward Elric, Fullmetal Alchemist.
I'd like to touch on the music. This show has some of the tightest and catchiest OPs in existence (with some good EDs to boot). I just finished it for the first time a few weeks ago and the 4th OP "Period" is STILL lodged deep in my head; so much so that I pull it up on UA-cam whenever I need to go somewhere nearby. The background music on the other hand can become repetitive at times, especially one piece in particular that I don't know the name of (it comes on during kinda tense scenes, but is also sometimes completely unnecessary). And of course I LOVE all the strong female characters in this show! You GOTTA be tough as nails to be an Amestris girl. From Winry to Izumi, from Riza to Olivier, you just can't beat these babes. Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED talk.
If I remember correctly FMA was written by a woman, but with a male pen name because they though no one would read a shonen by a woman. That very much explains the female characters
I completely agree with the Openings and Endings, there isn't a single one that I even slightly dislike. But... when it comes to the soundtrack within the episodes... they're a bit flat, or at least compared to the original adaptation's *awe inspiring* musical composition. Though, the CG in "Mellisa" and the Opening "Ready Steady Go" are both things that I can safely say I do not like who it comes to FMA03. But "Brat'ja" the Russian theme for the brothers themselves, makes up for these tenfold. I'd give my soul to see a perfect third remake that incorporates the best of both worlds, there's really no way to compare them as a whole so I still have to settle for trying desperately to pick a favorite based on a tally of which one is better in it's specifics... :~: And I don't think I can.
@@isadoracostahamsi163 She also grew up in a farming community, thus her tough as nails women and general character designs. To quote, "Men should be buff! Women should be vavoom!"
Riza is my favorite female character, honestly. She won't hesitate to call out Roy for anything (she calls him useless around water multiple times) also, "sorry to interrupt you, Major, but let me offer you a bit of feminine advice. BABIES AREN'T BORN AFTER JUST 5 MONTHS!!!"
I know right? I truly do love him the most but it wasn’t until this video that i learned that he’s perhaps the #1 favorite of the entire fan base by far.
1. Cause it follows the manga 2. No Filler 3. Animation is crisp and very well done 4.the action scenes are brilliant 5. Brotherhood also explores other characters to great detail at the same time 6. The characters developed much better over the course of the anime, gaining much more depth and realism. They felt more alive to me. 7. Amazing Ending Brotherhood ❤️❤️❤️
The characters are so good that I don't even know how to choose my favorite character. Ling/Greed is awesome and Badass , The Fuhrer is the most badass oldie of all animes , Edward is badass and always focused on his goals , Scar and his revenge is so well done and mustang justice and secret rebellion against the fuhrer is just to perfect .
There's a name for something that can accomplish and excel in so many areas. Plot, character development, animation, music, voice acting (subbed & dubbed!), comedy, tragedy, action, mystery, romance, narrative, commentary. When you look at what Arakawa was able to achieve in her story, you can only call it one thing: a masterpiece.
Hey all. I have been watching FMA:B with my grandmother, and she is loving it. She also loves Death Note, Attack on Titan, and Cowboy Bebop which I have also shown her. While watching FMA:B she asked me who I thought would make a good hypothetical live action cast. We talked about it for awhile before I had to head home for the night, but here are some ones we came up with. Just a fun thing with my awesome grandma that I thought I'd share with all of you. If you have your own suggestions, or other cool stories of sharing your favorite anime with people you love, feel free to reply. Tom Selleck/Josh Brolin/Charles Dance - Fuhrer Bradley Conoleth Hill - Gluttony Adrien Brody - Shou Tucker Daniel Craig - Roy Mustang Brian Cranston - Van Hoenheim/Father Hafpor Julius Bjornsson - Sig Curtis, Sloth, or MAJOR ALEX LOUIS ARMSTRONG Jet Li/Chow Yun Fat/Jackie Chan - Old Man Fu Ellen Page - Maria Ross David Tennant/Jason Isaacs - Solf J. Kimblee Ryan Reynolds/Ryan Gosling - Jean Havoc Jason Momoa - Captain Buccaneer Bob Balaban/Bill Murray/Steve Buscemi - General Grumman Lucy Liu - Izumi Curtis Charlize Theron/Scarlett Johansson - Riza Hawkeye, or Olivier Armstrong Cliff Curtis - Miles Luke Wilson/Rob Riggle - Maes Hughes Corey Taylor - Greed (A personal choice for me, as with his attitude, and attitude towards greed as discussed in his book "Seven Deadly Sins" he's already half way there.) Christopher Judge - Jerso Paul Dano - Denny Brosch Ralph Fiennes - Yoki Rory McCann - Heinkel, or Zanpano Betty White/Diana Rigg - Pinako Rockbell Richard Griffiths - Father Cornello You've probably noticed I've left out some VERY important characters. For Ed, Al, Pride, and Winry it is because I am not the most familiar with teen and child actors, and I also have a hard time visualizing the range from elementary school age, to twenty-something that likely several actors would have to cover. For Scar, I am not the most familiar with Middle-Eastern or Indian cinema, and don't know much of their action heroes. For Ling, Lan Fan, and May, it is kind of a combination of the two. I don't know enough about young Asian teen action stars to give a valid opinion on who would make good actors for them. I feel as though Envy would be the hardest to cast out of the entire show. Constructive criticism, alterations, and additions are welcome. Please be gentle. Again, this was just something that me and my grandma talked about for fun, and I thought it might be fun to share with fellow fans.
@@megablueflash1816 Thanks! @@croixfadas it honestly bothers me when people say AOT is overhyped. It has incredibly good writing, with some fumbles here and there, and deserves all the love it gets
This is the anime I show people who say they're not interested in "those Japanese cartoons." Hell, this is the anime I show people to give them an example of what I call a masterpiece. Any criticisms that can be leveled at FMA are, to quote my favorite gaming british person, mere flicked bogeys against a perfectly solid core. FMAB, for me, is Anime's Citizen Kane, and has a spot on equal footing with things like Spirited Away and AKIRA. Also god damn Hiromu Arakawa is a goddamn fox.
Ehh, Edward Elric is an unlikable manlet with a Napoleon complex, put me off the series when I first saw it back in the day, and still puts me off to this day. Plus, the plot did absolutely nothing for me. So not a series I'd show my friends to show off the best the medium can offer, honestly.
Personally I wouldn't reccomend this to someone who's off put by the "japanese cartoon" stigma because this show is really heavy on it. With all the weird little creatures and eyeball monsters and tropey exposition dumps in the middle of battles, probably the most anime-y anime I've seen yet 😂
Cillranchello this anime doesn’t even feel Japanese. I mean just look at the character art, the clothing, the house designs, the food. It’s like the anime thats foreign to anime and I love it so much
Other animes: Am I a joke to y- FMAB: *Yes* Edit: guys, look I know that there are other shows just as good as this one, it was hyperbole even when I wrote it, and my opinions have shifted since then. Can we all just cool it and accept that FMAB is good, even if it’s not your favourite show?
Zoë Nightshade JoJo plots are pretty lame but its the characters that make the show good. Stardust crusaders had the dumbest plot ever but the characters were cool as shit
One of the things that made my jaw drop was the fact that the characters LITERALLY AGE as you watch. I binged the entire series in almost one go, but it was only when I finished it, that I went back to one of the first episodes to rewatch a cool scene that I was like HOLY SHIT HE'S SO SMOL (lul). The animators ACTUALLY drew them growing up over the course of the series! It's insanely impressive!!
I'm a pretty casual anime fan. Only have a handful that I really love. That being said Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is the best show I've ever watched. That includes live action shows. Ive never seen an anime that really had characters that had such real and believable emotion the way these characters do. Its serious moments hit deep and it still finds room for hilariously goofy humor in between. And there are so many topics in this show that will always be relevant to anyone. The impact of war and the soldiers that live with what they were ordered to do. People trying to overcome racial tensions. Government corruption. And every character is amazing in their own way. Even the most insignificant character is good and you wouldn't mind seeing more of them.
It was a great story and a great show. Couldn’t agree more, wish they had done the backstories again just for those who didn’t know the story, but even without that it’s not hard to follow and I’m so glad they did this and finished the real story instead of that garbage where Ed wakes up in our world like the first anime.
i have forced myself to watch this anime in multiple occasion and cannot seem to last more than 2-4 episodes per effort. Does it get better towards the end cause I have watched the first 35-ish episode and have found it really dull
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is not only one of the best animes of all time but one of the best shows of all time. It's easily one of the best stories I've ever seen definitely from beginning to end, even a juggernaut like Game of Thrones failed in that.
I just watched FMA: Brotherhood for the first time last month as a 22 year old, and I’m SO happy that I watched it at an older age. I feel like it helped me appreciate the story and it’s themes, and philosophy behind everything so much more. It is absolutely hands down my favorite anime that I’ve ever seen, and I’ve started reading the manga, which is arguably better in a lot of ways. Hiromi Arakawa is an amazing story teller!
This anime has everything, even a fulfilling ending! Which most shows really struggle to accomplish, makes the great adventure feel so much better. Great show!
Wasn't a fan of the original FMA anime, but Brotherhood is so good on it's on merit that it's top 5 in my opinion. I'll boil down to 2 simple points that make Brotherhood so good: 1) The stakes were always so high in terms of the plot which leads into point 2..... 2) The plot was consistent all the way to the end and the payoff was actually worth it. Bonus: 3) Olivier Armstrong!!
FMA03 was my first solid exposure to the fandom. It got me invested in the fates of the Elric brothers, so the bittersweet ending was just heartbreaking though realistic. Brotherhood's ending watered my crops & cleared my skin though 😅
There are few shows with such strong story telling from beginning to end. The only other animated show, anime or not, with such a complex world, that maybe- maybe- as good as FMAB is Avatar the Last Airbender. But this show has Hawkeye and Mustang so, win.
You should watch the FMA03 version. Its more dark and grounded version with a different ending. Both versions are great. I was so happy when FMAB got announced because I got to watch a new version of FMA.
You know it's a good show when I almost cried three times just listening at you gushing about it. That's how good it is. It's the fucking best show everr
Dude same. I started watching the first one years ago and I didn't like it . I just started watching brotherhood on a whim a few days ago and never have I binged a show so hard AND OMG
Currently researching brotherhood with a friend that's never seen it before and it's still as good as I remember. Plus seeing him react to things is wonderful
Just rewatched FMA (2003) and it actually holds a lot of merit, despite some plot weirdness. The soundtrack is so mesmerizing, the animation is actually quite decent and the bond between the brothers ironically comes across as having greater depth than in Brotherhood. I really prefer elements of Roy's backstory and Scar's softer character, too. If only Shamballa didn't end the way it does, I'd say it was a pretty solid, albeit slightly messy, interpretation overall.
It honestly makes me so frustrated when people (it's not everybody of course! But a pretty vocal subsection in my experience) say "Oh FMA 2003 is complete shit, Brotherhood is the only good adaptation!" When that's just not true at all??? BOTH of them have their pros and cons Is Brotherhood closer to the manga? Obviously. Does it have a better emding? Yes I would say so. There are a ton of things that Brotherhood does super well in comparison to the 2003 adaptation But those first 13 episodes really do fall extremely flat compared to the corresponding episodes of the 2003 series And of course I COMPLETELY understand why they decided to rush through them to get to new material, but that doesn't change the fact that those episodes really read as what they are - a recap. Taking their time with those parts of the story as they did in the 2003 series really made for a more satisfying set of episodes (in my opinion of course) Now from the point they diverge I do prefer Brotherhood's plot more, but I certainly don't think the second half of FMA 2003 is awful, when I first watched it I fully enjoyed the series, I just enjoy Brotherhood (from episode 14 on) more after having seen both 🤷 But even though I love Brotherhood overall I feel like someone watching it without having seen the 2003 series is really missing out The first time I tried to watch it I didn't even make it past the recap episodes because I was so disappointed in how they didn't stack up to the 2003 version, and that's as someone who already loved FMA, I feel like a new fan who's never seen the 2003 series might get thrown off by those first episodes which don't really put the best foot forward compared to the rest of the show Tl;Dr: I think BOTH the 2003 series and Brotherhood are essential viewing And if you really hate the second half of the 2003 series you can always just watch the first half of it and then switch to Brotherhood 🤷 Frankenstein 'em together ya know? Lol
@@LunaLongbottomLove that Frankenstein would be gorgeous, especially for Hugues, i would watch 100 more episodes with Nina Hugues and those early stories. But i also don't understand people that prefer 2003 ending, i Never found any sense in that ending, except when i was a kid. But yeah, both animes have great parts
I kinda like the end of Shamballa, when you watch the 'Kids' OVA. I know it's an open ending, but it works for the story they were telling. The idea that the brothers lived the rest of their lives in our worlds, seems fitting for the whole 2nd world war/hydrogen bomb plot point.
@@lexywackess EXACTLY. I think Hughes' arc suffers greatly in Brotherhood. I knew exactly what would happen, but it dind't hit me like it did in the 2003 version. The time we spend getting to know him and his family, his relationships, greatly benefits from the extra time FMA 2003 gives it. Plus, the older anime doesn't spoil the Bradley twist in the first episode xD
TheFirehands150 I can’t think of anyone offhand who is more (realistically) evil. Sure, there’s the force of nature mustache-twirling cartoonishly evil Freizas of the anime world bent in world destruction who exist as punching bags for the main character, but that’s cartoonish evil. Shou is the kind of evil that really exists and is absolutely terrifying. I’m probably just over thinking it though.
@@Vgamer311You absolutely aren't overthinking. He's clearly an actual sociopath. He gave no actual thoughts of resistance to using the people he allegedly loved most in the world in order to continue his research. He reflects how real-life sociopaths use the people around them for their own gain. Shou Tucker, while not the most evil person in all of anime, actually would be in the top 10, and is definitely one of the top 5 in FMA:B.
Xanatrix Zadare yeah, the way I’m thinking of it, there would be plenty of characters who are “more evil” of your scale is they have a greater desire to do evil, or they cause more overall harm (just look at basically any Naruto or Dragon ball villain) but shou is evil in a way that actually exists in our world and I feel like that hits harder.
@@Vgamer311 let's break down why people think Shou Tucker is the most evil guy... He ruined his daughter by fusing her with a dog. people got mega attached to the cute daughter and dog which is why when he ruined their life, he suddenly became the most "evil" character. let's be honest here... if they never showed the daughter and just showed just the aftermath... he wouldn't make even top 100. there are plenty of anime characters that have raped, murdered, or experimented on countless women and children... even low budget side villains who are just notorius for doing this then getting killed by the main cast have these "records" in the anime. Some one please let me know why he should make top 10 when others have caused genocide (which is also attempted in real life and not cartoonish at all), and destroyed the lives of countless families, experimented on countless people, etc.
One of my favourite character building moments was when glutenny accidentally ate envy. Instead of continuing to fight he was sad that he ate his “friend”
I actually just finished my first viewing at the beginning of this past week! Very good stuff for sure. Coming from a fairly casual anime watcher, this is one of the series I would recommend as gateway drug material haha
FMAB hits different at different ages. I loved it at 16 when I first saw it, and then again at 19, and then i rewatch it atleast once a year. You learn to appreciate different aspects if it. But i agree that it is easier to properly grasp the depth of the concepts at an older age.
Rewatching it for the 3rd time now. Definitely one of my most favorite anime of all time and I've seen a lot. Happy 10 years, FMA: Brotherhood! We all still love you.
we're truly blessed to have both BH and 2004 to enjoy these characters even longer. 2004 was masterful in it's own way and all the "filler" they added in first half with Hughes family and spending more time with the Tuckers made those moments all the more impactful. Was a great change/addition imo.
FMA and FMAB are some of my favorite anime’s. The original is heartbreakingly sad and has this bleakness to it, but sucks you in. The second is more fulfilling and while depressing and dark at times, it has a wonderful and often lighthearted story in spite of its dark overall plot. FMA the original is definitely more of a drama while FMAB is more shounen. My recommendation if you want to see the canon story I would say you need to watch the first 30 episodes of FMA and then start FMAB. Why? Because the writers started FMAB with the thought in mind that the audience ALREADY watched the original. So you will be missing out and will not enjoy the story as much if you skip out on it, it further develops the characters and totally sucks you in. Or you know, you could just watch all of the original and move on to the second. It’s one hell of a ride though and has a wonderful ending, which I can’t say is the case for every anime I’ve seen.
@@xblade149 Definitely felt like a shounen to me. Huge battles, god like villain, and the classic hero beats the god complex villain with his entire cast of peers there cheering him on.
@@xblade149 FMAB has almost all the tropes but unlike most other shonens, uses them well and in a realistic way. The brothers have a good reason to do what they do instead of having a random dream or goal in their life ; they are not lonely orphans lost in the middle of the vast world (and everyone thinking that is perfectly fine for teens) but they have the status, funds and logistics of the army thanks to Ed's state alchemist title which allow them to be autonomous, and some adults to watch over them, even loosely ; the power progress in their alchemy is very limited and mastered, and are more the result of a better understanding than more powerful skills, etc Some details we usually don't find in shonens add a lot of consistency too : smart people are actually really smart and not just powerful : see how Mustang take the time to confirm all the critical informations he learns before fully trusting them (about some characters being homonculi for example) ; or how the final battles takes into account the public opinion and not only defeating the villain. FMAB is not the common shonen, but it definitely is what more shonens should be.
Finished Brotherhood a couple hours ago after it being on my list for YEARS, and what a ride. Instantly in my top 3. I can't believe it took me this long to finally watch it.
Mothers basement thank you bc I kept asking myself should I watch this anime and it seemed so good but I was scared it might not be good but this push was exactly what I needed
I hold no shame in saying that even after half a decade since i've originally watched the show, after all the amazing stories that have come out in that time....this is still the gold standard for me personally
@@merlyworm 100% agree. personally, my favorite show would probably be Your Lie in April (ik, cringe lol) or Mob Psycho 100. but when it purely comes to the way the story is told, FMAB can't be beat imo. the cross referencing that goes on between what's going to happen and what has happened. honestly just gives a new experience each time you watch it
The perfect anime.... great length, great music, great charcterers, great pacing, great massages and a great review *This is how you bring someone into rewatching an anime*
I really appreciate how kind you are to people who haven't watched it yet. I mean I grew up on fma 2003. As huge fan of anime despite buying the blurays basically as soon as I could afford to only just recently finished it. Also as a disabled person there really are few other examples of such wonderful representation of disabled people. Toph from Avatar The Last Airbender is like the only thing coming to mind.
It is to my extreme disappointment that my mother declared her disinterest after a single episode. I think it's her immediate disinterest in all things Japanese preventing her from giving it a chance.
I just got done re-watching the series earlier today, and it just reaffirmed why it's one of my favorite animes ever. Everything about it is polished. I don't even mind the first 13 episodes, because the rest of the series makes up for all of it, plus interest. I love all of the clever twists and turns, well-written and interesting characters, and especially the journey all those characters go through leading up to the endgame. Brotherhood is a smart, complex, beautifully executed masterpiece that shall live on for eternity as one of the greatest examples of animation to ever grace television screens.
FMA: Brotherhood is one of my favorite anime. I still watched this video to see if you pointed out anything I’ve overlooked. This video basically reaffirms everything I feel for the show and will now have to watch it again. Thanks Geoff.

@@ShaferHart If FMAB isn't 10/10, what is?
@@ShaferHart Shit huh? Well it's not a crime to have bad tastes I suppose
E V yeah but without it being pointed out you’d never know it’s anything special. Just some random monster fight
But there was one scene where he does convey wrath, and that was when Father mocks Edward and Alphonse.
yup
McBoi 123 lol what? he’s arguably one of the most interesting characters in the show itself
I wouldn't go that far in either direction, but based on his character (motives, backstory, etc.) He is a pretty good character all-in-all even if his writing and interactions with ed and al are a little dull.

that just means he has not risen in rank, probably from the desertion of ishval
Who cares
@Noel Hann Because his rank is equivalent to a major, other military personnel refer to him as such. Mustang is a Colonel, but he still has an alchemist title. Major Alex Louis Armstrong, Strong-Arm Alchemist is his full name and title. Ed similarly has one, but he is always called by his Alchemist title, but he is technically Major Edward Elric, Fullmetal Alchemist.
he needs more titles to reflect his might
I'd like to touch on the music.
And I don't think I can.

You've probably noticed I've left out some VERY important characters.
Charles Dance and David Tennant are excellent choices for the roles you mentioned. Great list man!
Lemme be the first to say, you have a really cool grandma.

Well shit, he's not wrong.
DAMN STRAIGHT

Honestly One of the most influential anime series of alltime . Fma showed us anime is more than big battles and power ups
So true ! I'm always amazed at how a character you see maybe two minutes in the whole show can hit that hard in the feels (hello doctor Knox) ...
Ha! Then you are going to love Avatar: The Last Airbender. Arguably the best cartoon/kidshow of all time.
It was a great story and a great show. Couldn’t agree more, wish they had done the backstories again just for those who didn’t know the story, but even without that it’s not hard to follow and I’m so glad they did this and finished the real story instead of that garbage where Ed wakes up in our world like the first anime.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is not only one of the best animes of all time but one of the best shows of all time. It's easily one of the best stories I've ever seen definitely from beginning to end, even a juggernaut like Game of Thrones failed in that.
Two things:
-Brotherhood is fantastic and I'm happy you made this video. Great job!

Great show!
Oshi no ko is way better than this Trash.
Implying Roy and GreedLing aren't the best and my favorite characters.
But what about Hughes? Gosh dang, talk about an amazing father.

Exactly the same for me!
Wasn't a fan of the original FMA anime, but Brotherhood is so good on it's on merit that it's top 5 in my opinion.
I'll boil down to 2 simple points that make Brotherhood so good:
1) The stakes were always so high in terms of the plot which leads into point 2.....
2) The plot was consistent all the way to the end and the payoff was actually worth it.
Bonus:
3) Olivier Armstrong!!
The 03 anime has a sad ending and nobody seems to care about poor Lyra!
@@michaelflores9220 It's just sadder in general. It's like the same as Brotherhood but the painful route/bad ending. More emotional long term.
@@RealBillyFanword the 03 has some of the most fucked up things of you think about it
FMA03 was my first solid exposure to the fandom. It got me invested in the fates of the Elric brothers, so the bittersweet ending was just heartbreaking though realistic.

Omg point 3 is SO true!! 😂❤️

@@ravynwings5403 Den > Black Hayate. Change my mind.
There are few shows with such strong story telling from beginning to end. The only other animated show, anime or not, with such a complex world, that maybe- maybe- as good as FMAB is Avatar the Last Airbender. But this show has Hawkeye and Mustang so, win.
I’m not even a big fan of Anime in general (mostly just the Dragon Ball franchise), but holy shit I LOVED this series. It was perfect
And you have more scenes to cry for in FMA 2003, that is no joke. ;)
Chell Perkins Did this with my wife and it was great :)
BOTH of them have their pros and cons
Is Brotherhood closer to the manga? Obviously. Does it have a better emding? Yes I would say so. There are a ton of things that Brotherhood does super well in comparison to the 2003 adaptation
But those first 13 episodes really do fall extremely flat compared to the corresponding episodes of the 2003 series
And of course I COMPLETELY understand why they decided to rush through them to get to new material, but that doesn't change the fact that those episodes really read as what they are - a recap. Taking their time with those parts of the story as they did in the 2003 series really made for a more satisfying set of episodes (in my opinion of course)
Now from the point they diverge I do prefer Brotherhood's plot more, but I certainly don't think the second half of FMA 2003 is awful, when I first watched it I fully enjoyed the series, I just enjoy Brotherhood (from episode 14 on) more after having seen both 🤷
But even though I love Brotherhood overall I feel like someone watching it without having seen the 2003 series is really missing out
The first time I tried to watch it I didn't even make it past the recap episodes because I was so disappointed in how they didn't stack up to the 2003 version, and that's as someone who already loved FMA, I feel like a new fan who's never seen the 2003 series might get thrown off by those first episodes which don't really put the best foot forward compared to the rest of the show
Tl;Dr: I think BOTH the 2003 series and Brotherhood are essential viewing
And if you really hate the second half of the 2003 series you can always just watch the first half of it and then switch to Brotherhood 🤷 Frankenstein 'em together ya know?
Everyone:Ye probably right... Should watch it again.
Also everyone: oh god I can hear the voice of that definitely not important doggy
I feel people extremely exaggerate over Shou Tucker being one of the most evil people in anime... but yeah, that was a good scene ×.×
@@Vgamer311
let's break down why people think Shou Tucker is the most evil guy...
More like "his brother"
I actually kinda like Gluttony overall. He's just Lust's big, hungry child.

we're truly blessed to have both BH and 2004 to enjoy these characters even longer.
Lyra in the 03 anime is the character I am saddest for! good thing I have a fanfic for that!
Hell no offense brotherhood doesn't even feel like a shounen. To me at least
The brothers have a good reason to do what they do instead of having a random dream or goal in their life ; they are not lonely orphans lost in the middle of the vast world (and everyone thinking that is perfectly fine for teens) but they have the status, funds and logistics of the army thanks to Ed's state alchemist title which allow them to be autonomous, and some adults to watch over them, even loosely ; the power progress in their alchemy is very limited and mastered, and are more the result of a better understanding than more powerful skills, etc
Some details we usually don't find in shonens add a lot of consistency too : smart people are actually really smart and not just powerful : see how Mustang take the time to confirm all the critical informations he learns before fully trusting them (about some characters being homonculi for example) ; or how the final battles takes into account the public opinion and not only defeating the villain.
FMAB is not the common shonen, but it definitely is what more shonens should be.
Well, will the first 30 episodes of fma be sufficient to get into fmab. Cause i want to do it
