- In this video I install a piece of sun strip tint on the Generals windshield. I then went ahead and installed the rear view mirror using some 3M mirror adhesive... Finally!

I have a ZJ that I bought new in 1996. It has the dimming rearview mirror, and I thought it had failed years ago. I hit the button on the bottom of the mirror last week and was amazed that it still worked. I had forgotten all about that feature.

Mark the outside of the glass for puck location. I tape a rare earth magnet on the outside of the glass -- it definitely helps hold the puck in place as the glue sets! Use as little glue on the puck as you can, the thinner the layer the better! Press and rotate a bit, and let the magnet on the outside hold it in place -- and I'm with you, let it sit for half a day or more!
Great tips Artie! There is an indicator mark for puck placement already on the glass, however I disregarded it to install the tint strip. Awesome suggestion to use the magnet! That blew my mind! Amazing! Thanks again man
@@ProjectDanH I'm on my second windshield -- it didn't have a mounting mark for the mirror. the magnet really helps, holding the puck securely for hours. I also put a circle of metal foil tape on the outside of the glass right over the puck, with the idea that the sun will heat up the metal foil, and won't get as much heat on to the puck. If the puck stays on for a few years, I guess it works! We've got two ZJs -- a 96 with a 5.9 in it, and my 98 5.2L, and an XJ, it's either a 96 or a 98 4L.

Nice episode. One day if you could explain how to unmount the steering wheel and how to deal with the airbag assy, that would be great. A lot of ZJ steering wheels require to be changed nowadays because the rim is mashed up. So that would be interesting.

Nice job Dan.The 3M glue is the only one,that I have found,to work.It seems like the cold temps in the winter are too much for the other glues.

Great install Dan, I was going to this to my XJ but the factory sunstrip goes low enough and I’m usually clear of any serious glare since I almost hit the roof of the car while driving. 😂

Put my mirror on using Krazy Glue. Has worked great for a year so far.
That's pretty cool! The previous owner attempted this with crazy glue... The mirror didn't stick but the glue was all over the place! Haha

The Glue is called cyanoacrylate Its like superglue but 100 times better quality , you can buy it in thick or runny (Thick is better ) Just dont glue your hand to anything ! did i say its a 10th the cost of the 3 M Brand

Project Dan H well gotta fix the leaf spring shackle , needs new tires , needs reverse lights , gotta put new shocks on the hatch because there worn out , needs a few door panels and a new windshield , new passenger side window motor , oh also a alternator lol it’s a lot

Don't wipe the excess, it just smears. Let it dry then scape off the excess with a razor blade.

Does anyone know the final word on legality of a brow like this?
I'm pretty sure it's legal to have a tinted brow as long it does not obstruct the drivers view. I find that If you are polite to the officer that stops you he's more likely to let you off with a warning... If the cop is having a bad day and the driver isn't cooperative Im sure they can find an equipment violation to write a ticket for. lol 😇
You can have a brow in the state of NY as long as you’re within the AS1 line on your windshield which varies on cars. Couldn’t see Dan’s but he should be legal.
