Love a shoegaze top 10 that isn't filled with 90's classics. For as great as a lot of those records are they tend to overshadow a lot of newer releases.
The first time i heard Deathconciousness, my jaw dropped, my body shaking and my reality for a few minutes felt completely different. I was instantly transported to a world I had never visited before. I didn't expect to find this record in a top shoegaze albums list... but hey I am not complaining, to me its simply one of the greatest albums ever made in ANY genre. Thank you.
I agree, they don't really fit into any genre box but since they are adjacent and this album had such a huge impact on me, I wanted to talk about it nonetheless :)
I think mbv (2013) is slept on because of Loveless's iconic status. It is an incredible comeback album with a real sense of place and maturity. Hard to describe but beautiful.
I'd not heard of Murmur before so thanks for the recommendation - they're delightful! Also if you get a chance to see Bdrmm play live I'd strongly recommend taking it.
I went to see A Place to Bury Strangers live a couple years ago and it was the most insanely loud and unhinged show I’ve ever seen. If I didn’t have earplugs my hearing would probably be beyond saving by the time I turn 50 lol. Great band
Interesting and insightful, nice to see some newer and innovative bands swimming in these waters. Personally, Souvlaki and Loveless are hard to top, not because their old (like me) but really, really good.
Exploding Head is a 10/10 album. Every song is full of cohesive energy. If you have this album up loud (recommended) the last track builds up to this mighty crescendo its a wild listening experience
Going Blank Again by Ride is probably my favourite shoegaze album (yes, not Nowhere). While I think other albums may get better shoegaze sounds I just love the songs on the album. Leave Them All Behind, Cool Your Boots, OX4 are just great but the crown jewel for me is Mouse Trap. Just a brilliant song layered to blow you away and keep you going for the whole duration. I think people think it's very light when being described as shoegaze but, yeah.
Thank you for your list , it's always nice to explore more new bands , I would suggest Chapterhouse "Whirlpool",Blind Mr. Jones "Stereo Musicale" ,Hatchie"Giving the World Away"and Drop Nineteens "Delaware" to name a few...and of course Ride with "Nowhere" who are the third band from The Holly Trinity of Showgaze (MBV,SLOWDIVE.RIDE)...
A splendid top 10! Discovered a few albums thanks to it. And I ordered Souvlaki and Pygmalion on vinyl literally an hour before watching this video. Coincidence? I think not!
I'm quite new to shoegaze, so my favourite albums still move around sometimes. But my top favourites are: To See the Next Part of the Dream by Parannoul Still Dreaming, Still Deafening by Yuragi (EP) How to Sink Slowly by Brokenteeth Souvlaki by Slowdive
Beautifully done. Ride, Belly, Falling Joys, Jesus and Mary Chain, Chapterhouse, Lush, The Sundays, Teenage Fanclub, Pale Saints, Boo Radleys. 10 yeah! (Even put an Aussie one in for you!)
was nice to see Default getting featured, something about the asian shoegaze scene as a whole getting recognition that makes me more invested in the genre as for my personal favourite shoegaze album, id go for "Kimi no Youni Ikiretara" by Uchuu Nekoko, never heard something quite like it ever since i first digged it back in 2021, and i think its what id call the peak of the Japanese scene (just personal take of course)
Awesome video, I love it! Funny enough, I also love every album on this list and would order the list the exact same way.😉 In my opinion, "Psychocandy" is also the beginning of shoegaze, proto-shoegaze. But that's just my opinion and everyone has their own opinion on it and that's okay. ✌🏻
Good list, but I'm still unsure why Psychocandy and Deathconsciousness are often considered shoegaze. Imo, they're not. Shoegaze influenced, yes. They're both noisy and hazy, but that doesn't make it shoegaze. APTS is their own level of noise. Just my opinion. Glad to see some love for Bethany Curve! :)
Psychocandy is basically proto-shoegaze. As mentioned in the video, it does display most (if not all) of the hallmarks so pretty fair game to be in this group
I'm a shoegaze collector too, but Loveless beats Slowdive and Psychocandy isn't a shoegaze album. it is influential, but not of the genre. note: I bought both albums on their original release, jamc on vinyl and mbv on cd

Ringo Deathstarr being on this list was an unexpected (but VERY welcomed) surprise. Great list you've organized here!
Love your top 10. That's awesome you mentioned Doused Murmur and Alcian Blue! I'm listening to a lot of Luster and BrokenTeeth lately.
Amazing bands too!! 🩵

My first gateway to shoegaze was Kitchens of Distinction's "Death of Cool" album. Next was Starflyer 59's "Silver" album.

Ride nowhere is one of my favorite shoegaze albums

Was awesome seeing they are a gutting a body of water. Just recently got Into them.

Starflyer 59 "Silver" album is easily in my top 5 shoegaze albums!
Starflyer 59 is god tier their first 3 albums are shoegaze gold (no pun intended)
My favorite is "Methodrone" By The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Man That Girl Suicide Is one of the best things I've ever heard
Methodrone does not come up very often in conversations, but its a quality shoegaze record for sure
@@grantous67 Yeah, I still think BJM Is a very underrated band
Hell yeah. New vid.
Great list! I am looking forward to exploring these bands!
My favs that I would have included:
Lush
Asobi Seksu
Jesu
Zoon

Thank you so much! 🩵
The Millia Pink and Green is one of the best shoegaze EP's ever made
One of my favorite albums is Turning Into Small by All Natural Lemona and Lime Falvors. Great video as always
A Storm in Heaven - Verve
yepiiii
lush, ride

Ride- Going Blank Again
One of my favorites Is "Sal Grosso" by Lupe de Lupe. Just listen to "Pavimento" or "Enquanto Pensa no Futuro" and thank me later
lovesliescrushing
they are absolutely amazing, too 🩵 it was so difficult to narrow it down to this list tbh
Omg they let you use music without copyright?! They never let me do that 😂That’s dope 😎 also I love Shoegaze ❤
Good list, no Ride on it, but it is totally acceptable as this is a personal list.
Thanks!
Thank you so much!! 🩵
And Always
recommended " Dynamo" of "Soda Stereo", the best
Will you cover Kitchens of Distinction ?
Yes! Do this!
I love you guys
We love you too!

Almost identical as mine. I don't really listen to RIDE because IMO they are more like Alternative-Shoegaze.
I like their early works but they just didn't quite make the cut, since there are SO many amazing albums out there
cuteee
no lush?
No LUSH?
IMHO idk what everyone sees in Nothings great dismal record to me Guilty of Everything was galaxies better.
Last
first

Me too.
