I can resonate to the other end of the spectrum here. I've did projects and never focused on DSA. However, I'm self taught from 6th standard in school, in 2006. So my basics there were good enough. In 2009 I made a tool to convert BAT files in EXEs, and by 2011 I learned Java, C++ and C# on my own. I even attempted to clone Game Maker from Mark Overmars back then. I didn't like Turbo C++ in college, so I wrote my own IDE during my second year. Primitive one, but writing GUIs in C++ was a fantastic experience, it gave me a good kick. I contributed JNI bindings to Assimp library into LWJGL project in my 3rd year, wrote a translation layer that implements OpenAL specification for 3D Spatial Audio Playback on top of Web Audio API and even wrote my basic 3D game engine. By final year, it even got 100 stars on GitHub. My final project was the Game Maker clone I wanted to make since childhood. I went low level, and I learned to hand write 32-bit assembly using NASM and I actually learned to make sense of C calling conventions. I explored every domain, I did Web Dev, my website is written completely by me from scratch. I did backend dev, my first internship was in NodeJS and Express and I did Spring in my first job for a week before moving internally into Android. I even did iOS as well. Having said that, I never did DSA full fledged until the last year. I never applied to big tech, but I did get plenty of callbacks from startups. In my last 5 years, I attempted 14 companies and got 12 offers. But then, I feel now, that I should've started DSA even earlier. I didn't even know it was a thing. I only found out about LeetCode after getting my first job. So what my 5 years of experience taught me from startups, is that as long as you're learning, and you're properly showcasing your stuff in a portfolio, you'll get calls. Fun fact, until last year, I had a 3 page resume where I featured 7 projects. Open Source will help you build credibility.

same here. I am 2021 pass out, college life was ruined because of health reasons and covid, tried GATE after that, didn't went well. Now i am focusing on my skills, but these news about current job market make me nervous, and only causes stress. I stopped watching all interview videos, it only adds to the stress, i don't even want to watch this video, because it makes me feel like shit about myself. one advise would be to pick a tech stack and build projects, i am doing same, only DSA might not work. because of year gaps, we have to show what else can we do.
@@nehalpradhan2229 You're correct tbh, Have you weighed in other options ? Let's think logically, since you're a 2021 passout you can still expect openings because I have seen a couple of openings where even 2021 passouts can still apply. I have also seen openings where 2020 passouts like me can apply too, but here's the catch they never revert back. I'm assuming it's because of the current situation in the market. For me the options are - continue looking for job until the end of the year, if things don't work out. I'll try to look for placement through some agency or company. If even that doesn't work out then I'll probably do Mtech or else move to foreign country maybe Canada. I think I'll also develop some coding skills so after I move I shouldn't really have too much of a problem looking for work. This is what I have thought so far. What about you?
@@frickofunky2008 yes you can do mtech, but gate is required in india, or do it outside country, which is better because GATE takes lot of preparation. options are limited in india - one option could be like you said to join online courses like pay after placement etc but it's not guaranteed, but at the same time people have done it and got placed. - another option could be to do Open source and be good at it which will again take time but will have huge benefit if done right. - third option that is to work on skills and projects and just hope for the best, which i am doing. from what i've seen skills matter most and if you have projects to prove it, things will be a lot easier. even people who haven't done any serious development and don't have relevant experience in service based companies do the same, they build their skills and apply for other companies, which works these days.
@@nehalpradhan2229 yeah man pay after placement is there too but I'll take that as a last option btw my friend is doing one too from scaler lemme know if you wanna know more about these, I'm hoping they can hook me up if I don't manage to get it on my own. Also you're correct about developing skills, That's what I am doing right now. I'm decent enough at DSA to solve medium level problems in stacks, arrays,LL's, haven't touched dynamic programming, graphs etc but I think I won't be needing those topics as much. The main problem is the projects because honestly I don't really remember my college project, it's been 3 years so probably will be needing some. I'm thinking udemy or youtube some clone app pertaining to web development.
@@KingKumar-lr1ys i already said i'm just focusing on building my skills and will do projects to show in my resume. and hope for best. my mistake was i wasted a lot of time learning irrelevant skills, which had huge learning curve, also wasted time in learning different skills and got stuck in tutorial loop rather than being good at one. i am also learning web dev, and sticking to it now, and only learn skills related to it and try to be proficient in it.

- one option could be like you said to join online courses like pay after placement etc but it's not guaranteed, but at the same time people have done it and got placed.
