Ha ha I love this! My memory is that Martini came from the apple martinis we drank at the Melting Pot, and yes, it was classy. The guy in the picture is actually DD, Dan Dunshee. And remember Rook‘s kid saying, “I do not like the wig.“ 😆

Hello Mr. Cain, first and foremost, thank you for you channel, it's awesome and you're very lovely!
I was wondering whether you could share some insight and wisdom on making sequels. These days we see quite a few, with a lot of them being made after years if not decades, and not always by the same studios or even by the same people. What is in your opinion the best way to approach an old IP, to maybe make it relevant for today's audience but also respect the original? How can one approach a nonlinear story from a predecessor? Is there anything on the socio-cultural level that maybe 20 years ago would be common in mainstream games but today would be considered weird? How is it possible that one can make a new game in a new world but can still capture the spirit of an older title like Pillars did? Thanks!
Oh and maybe, how much say do IP owners have during development? Like how free you'd be if you were making something like a D&D or Warhammer game?

Hey Tim, I've been loving your videos recently. I recently went through a 2-3 week obsession with Vampire Bloodlines and am now starting Arcanum and was super impressed at the depth of the character creator. I laughed so hard when I saw the Neitzsche Posterchild background. I know you said that you couldn't answer much about the development/design of Vampire, but do you have any thoughts on how the story of the game turned out? specifically the ending. Additionally, I'd love to hear more about your time at UC Irvine, as I am a student there right now and was surprised to hear about your teaching there!

I totally understand the height thing, because it happens to me too. I make most of my friends online, and when i meet them in person, theyre always surprised at how tall 6'1" actually is.
Theyre also surprised that i actually look like shaggy, even if they've seen my face before. I guess the tall+skinny combo really sells it.

Hi Tim! A few questions about Achievements.
What are your thoughts on Achievements as a more recent layer of game development?
What is it like to develop them for a game, and at what point in the process are they planned?
How difficult is it to integrate them into a game?
Do you think achievements are, generally, used to their full potential?
And, what do you think makes a "good" achievement?
I often find achievements unappealing, but wish I didn't! They're often too simple, or too complex, and they don't usually require interesting engagement with a game's systems. In my opinion an example of a good / interesting achievement is "A Small Carbon Footprint" from Resident Evil 2 Remake which requires beating the game in 14k or fewer steps. Or the Garden Gnome achievement from Half-Life 2: Episode 2. But those are also both quite hard and daunting, and not necessarily appealing to attempt (I haven't). Rarely do achievements fall into the goldilocks zone of interesting, challenging, and appealing.
I imagine developers have to walk a tight rope in making achievements simple enough that the majority of players will be able to get most of them, complex enough that achievement hunters won't feel disappointed.... But also not so complex that no one ever actually gets them. Seems like a really hard job!
    Thanks!

    • @genericpersonx333
      @genericpersonx333 4 місяці тому

Depends on the cultural background you approach it from. Most Americans default to the more comfortable anglicization using the IN phoneme but as the name is mostly Occitan, from the south of modern France, Mr. Cain's pronunciation is closer to the way it is "supposed" to be said if you really wanted to pick nits. He applies a bit more of the Spanish twist, keeping more of the N in there than necessary.

very deep dark compelling performances from Charlize and supporting cast.

Regarding nicknames: It was at Interplay for a couple of months before I found out what Becky Heineman’s real name was. I thought her last name was Burger, because that’s the name everyone used.
6’1”? No, I don’t remember you as that - I think you were a master of sitting in a chair when we talked. Decker - yeah, he’s a hulk! But then, I remember myself as 6’ even, barefoot (I looked at my driver’s license to assure myself of that), and now…I’m not.

People assume you're short because of your build. I get the same thing from people who had seen me from a distance but not up close, I've got a big round head and I'm really unfit so people assume I'm a fat guy surrounded by really short and small people, my friends are average height and skinny as heck, I am a fat guy but I surprise people up close because I'm not as unfit as I look and I'm 6ft tall and 280lbs.
But to be honest when I've watched your presentations where you're standing up it is subtly apparent that you're tall because the fit on your clothes looks more like a tall person's than someone of average height or shorter ( where I'm from if you're between 5'7" and 5'10" and not overweight then you'll rarely struggle to find clothes that fit well). Our Prime Minister has the opposite effect, he is tiny and skinny (and filthy rich) so he wears bespoke suits and has cameramen shoot him from angles that conceal how short he is, so when people see him IRL they're usually shocked by how small he is. I would rather be like you or me than like him Tim!
