My father left the family when he started making money. One cold winter’s day, my father got the sheriffs to evict my mother and their eight children out of the house and into the cold. This black man did this to his family and file for divorce from my mother. This took my mother by surprise. They never had a fight. He never struck her. They were both strict with my siblings and I. They left the south for a better life. My father got away without paying a dime of child support. By the grace of God, she had her family and friends to help us out. My mother went back to nursing school to finish. It was hard for all of us. We lived poor while my father made over six figures in salary and lived in an upper scale neighborhood. This act by my father really destroyed by brothers. They were always taught how to be a righteous, hardworking and honorable black man. They were taught the get educated and get jobs to support their wife and their children and also not abounded them no matter what. They were also taught not to cheat on their wives and honor them. My mother never disrespected my father. Never talked him down when he lost his job. She always told him that it was going to be okay and they we will get by until he get something better. She kept the house and all of our lives balance and now this happens. My father actions really angered my brothers and made my sister and I look at men, especially black men differently. In the end, my mother never talked bad about him. She went back to school got her a job to take care of her children. Some women don’t have a choice; they do what they got to do. This made me get an education and a good paying job so I won’t have to depend of a black man or any man for jack. Black women can get disrespect by all races of men and no one cares. Some of us single black mothers have no choice and we have no time to put down other black men and the fathers. It’s a waste of our time. Our main concern is our children. This is not about the white man period but you can say that it was because the white male judge told my father that he did not owe my mother or her children a dime. In the end, the black woman is always the problem. We are not at fault of a black man’s actions and why he cannot provide. .
