This was an excellent and most worthwhile presentation. Thank you so much. I am looking forward to the future episodes. With all of the dangers of technology, the one good thing that comes out of it is our ability to hear such presentations as this. But it isn't just a matter of hearing, but putting into practice the wisdom which is contained therein. God bless you.

Fr. posits a causul link between the rise of the internet/smartphones and an increase in shallow thinking and reistance to friction/hardship in life. While these points seem intuitively true, perhaps it would be helpful to point us to some of the research on these points (possibly in the show notes) that infomed your thinking.

Father's opening statements are spot on. It is not normal, we should not feel like factory workers. I can see it in young adults pursuing their "dreams" but it is just the exhaustion of their souls in what they are trying to find in the spiritual life and vocation, then using their talents to correspond. Sadly the new rite has even taught their further in their practice and individualistic rituals and habits. The devils are smart, but lets hope the faithful return to the monastic heart+

I was looking for some scientific studies that shows certain cognitive factors are declining. e.g. ability to focus, to memorize, to conduct a logical discussion, to pray.

I'm currently reading Stolen Focus by Johann Hari. He delves into many studies and talks to professionals studying focus and how the smart phone and social media impact our focus, and what to do about it. Highly recommend.

The science is out there with much more to come. Keep looking. Studies esp just of the effect of cell phone use on children.

In his video about the relation of entertainment and porn, I think Brian Holdsworth cited some studies.

The drop off from generations is drastic

I’m a teacher. Believe me, it’s huge! Students can’t concentrate, can’t understand the written and spoken word, have no visual imagination. Others can’t get screen images out of their minds, especially if it pertains to sexuality, violence, the demonic. It affects children physically. They lack stamina, coordination, large and fine motor dexterity, except for using a screen keyboard or game controller.
My observations are pre-Covid. I got fired and lost my license for refusing the you know what. What little I speak with teachers, if they’re under age 45 or so, they cannot imagine how one can teach without a computer.

This is a great series but there is humor that it is being shared over the very evil being discussed. Maybe turn this into a book. That’s how we get back.

Yes, I do appreciate being able to livestream a Mass if I cannot go in person. No, it’s not the same at all, but it’s better than nothing. If I pray along with that Mass, using my missal, it’s better than just watching passively. Like anything else, the soul must will to involve itself. A person can get more grace from an online Mass, prayerfully immersed, than going in person, sitting in the back pew, and playing games on my phone the entire time.

I'm enjoying these episodes on a much-needed topic.
With respect, Father did not make a clear distinction between a tool and a machine at the beginning: he said a machine is a machine because it creates a 'disproportionate' effect compared to user input, but that's relative. A hammer, a gun, and even an AI chat bot give proportionate effects to how well the user can swing it, aim it, and prompt it, respectively.

Thank you so much for this series. I have noticed much of what you discussed in myself personally and I'm very concerned for my children and grandchildren. I'll definitely get them watching the series as well.

Has Father looked into the work of Dr Melillo? If not, I highly recommend his book Disconnected Kids.

Reminds me of The Abolition of Man by CS Lewis. In the final stage or advancement, it will be the abolition of man.

I think it was courage to be afraid or imitation of Christ that states something as in what is it in having all knowledge but to lose your soul. It is almost better to know what is just needed and be simple. Goes back to having all prophecy and so on without it growing charity in the soul. It is almost better to remain simple it says. So as the question is raised it isnt about is it better than nothing. But what is it to gain all knowledge at the cost of our soul

It was the Imitation of Christ, not the Courage to be Afraid
