Ok just so people stop asking the main DAW he uses is Pro tools, the distortion program he uses is GTR, the vocal layering for octaves and such he uses melodyne and his mic is a U87, not that any of these things will help you achieve the results that he has since it takes a lot of time to master all of these things but just so you dont have to keep asking :D thumps up so everyone can see it !
It's really cool seeing how you work Mike! I'm a recording musician myself and definitively got some new ideas by watching this, thanks! :)

It would be cool, but they're completely different. PTX is more pure vocalists, while Mike is great at manipulating sound and using technology. Neither of them are bad, (I personally prefer PTX's style better-a bit more organic) but they wouldn't blend well together.

Watching the first two steps and thinking, "Okay, this is great", but then, BAM! I'm not even sure that Mike Tompkins is capable of creating horrible songs because everything he makes are just simply gorgeous and mind-blowing!

So at 3:39 Mike is using a different microphone to record the sound. I think it's the Shure SM7?? Does anyone know why he changes microphones to record the kick? I was thinking about purchasing that mic for studio recording, but not sure of what it's good for.
It probably sounds better on that mic for his beatboxing/kick sounds. If he used the other mic, it probably wouldn't sound as good. I'm pretty sure I have that same mic and when I beatbox I can't be too close otherwise it doesn't sound the greatest. That's just my guess.

2. What's the BPM for the song?
nope he uses pro tools and you can detect the bpm with a software once you have the song or u can just tap it in time with the song into any program or website and it will tell you the tempo :D
I think the tempo is around 90 bpm.
