Just did one at 51,500 in my 2018 Forester. Its a dirt road New England car. My parents who both have Outbacks did theirs around 70-80k miles. My shop said they get two Subarus a week with that problem. Its crazy how hard it is to get the hub bearings off, they rust to the backing plate and they need to smash it off basically, breaking bolts in the process so you need new bolts too. They showed me the old parts when I picked up the car, amazing stuff.
I had a '06 Corolla with a lean condition at 160K. Turns out the PCV valve was stuck open which explains why it ran a little rough at idle. What is it with Subaru’s and bad wheel bearings? This isn’t the first one that Scotty has worked on that has that humming and I drive for a car dealership and have driven several that had the same problem.
Ok Scotty, your automotive technology class was good up until you said too much resistance means it's (the air/fuel ratio sensor) shorted out inside. I guess the explanation got a little twisted since a short means resistance is lowered/bypassed?

I think all the current Subaru's in North America have a water temperature gauge. Only look at mine when it is real cold out. Some of the previous cars I drove did not have one so I go out of the habit I guess.
My wife’s Subaru burns oil , but starts and runs good. She likes to travel between Chicago and Arizona and of course I worry she won’t check the oil and the engine will seize out in the middle of nowhere. Right now she burns a quart to two quarts a week. One big problem with Subaru too do anything to that engine, you have to remove it from the vehicle.
Let me tell you this Scott. I bought the 16 Impreza 2.0 to rebuild my credit score and OMG, it is horribly slow. When you try to accelerate the vehicle, it’s like the 95 year old man tries to get off the bed. Omg, the CVT trans is hilariously annoyed. Yeah…. The only thing I hate about the new Subaru’s is that whenever it gets a little problem it lights the whole cluster up like a Christmas tree even if it’s just an evap
Well at least it does not turn off the air conditioner, like some other makes. They really want your attention for any emissions problem now a days. Moral, never ever drive with your Gas cap off. I had a rental with out a gas cap that is who I know.
@@Flashman36175 omg don’t even get me started on that lol. I had a lemon Chevy cobalt I got for $500 and I thought it was a steal with only 90k miles. I soon found out why it only had 90k, if the car was running when the lights came on the AC/blower would quit, gauges would stop reading, the speakers wouldn’t work and it would shift hard, to make things worse if you shut the car off it wouldn’t start again till it felt like it. I used to have to unlock and lock the doors with the key fob a thousand times and that would make it start somehow. Never again
I forget when exactly but Subaru finally switched to the MLS head gaskets. This one I believe wasn't included in that timeframe. Most of us just change the head gaskets BEFORE they blow. 😂 Saves quite the headache later. My 2000 ob is almost to 300k. Cheers 🍻
Notice all the signs of oil leakage when Scotty was shining the flashlight down by the heat sensor(?)? Subaru uses silicone, not gaskets when constructing engines and it does not hold up over time. Leaks can occur in many places. That and the fact that all tires must be replaced if a single tire is damaged beyond b/c of the all-wheel drive system are reasons some people will not have one.
Look at the year. That is not the one with silicon on the cam carrier. Oh well. I do hear you about the silicon and other adhesives used in the construction of new cars; but it is almost all of them now not just Suburu. For what it is worth it looked like water, it was raining. Yes, Tires are a cost problem with 4 wheel drive vehicles if one gets damaged.
Scotty really talks up Bernie's products. So I tried them. I can say they absolutely worked for me. Is it going to turn your old beater into a New car? Maybe not but if you have reasonable expectations, give them a try cuz they absolutely work as advertised.
Scotty I have a mystery issue with my car battery and start... i need you to see my car.. how would I schedule you to look at it? Toyota Camry 2010, won't start sometimes.. .but if I wiggle the + battery cable, at the base of the battery it starts... but the battery cable isn't loose and it makes little sense.. sometimes there's a spark when I wiggle it.
I’m not Scotty….but if the cables are tight to the battery terminals but it only works when you wiggle the cables, then it is either a bad cable or a bad terminal on the battery. If your battery is over 4 years old, get a new battery. If you still have an issue, get new cables. If this resolves your issue, then you need to figure out why it got damaged in the first place. Is your battery firmly held down?
Screw Subaru! Any vehicle that doesn't have a temperature gage or gaskets are going to be very expensive to fix if its not beyond repair when it overheats or loses all of the oil.
my '07 xt forester has codes for the secondary air system being either stuck open or closed, it has all the codes what should i do. 184K miles there abouts
In my experience with my 2003 Forester, it starts as a low, constant hum that gets louder at certain speeds, especially in the 30-40 mph range. And gradually gets louder over time until it is quite annoying - a constant low-frequency hum while the vehicle is moving at speed. (It makes no sound while the vehicle is still, and does make noise whether or not you are accelerating - not engine-related.) It can sometimes be hard to tell which bearing is making the noise - helpful to have someone else drive while you sit in different spots to help pinpoint it. I've been told by mechanics that the rear bearings are a lot more of a pain to replace due to their design.
Hi all! I read/watched/researched all i could on Subaru for almost 2 years before i actually decided to purchase. Its cars are held longer putting them on the roads over 10 years....longer than most other manufacturers. Also, if you cant afford regular requied maintenance then you probably shouldnt try to own one. Plus, i knew id be the only driver and im not an agressive driver.... Kudos to other Subie drivers. Ive only one regret....wish id have kept my 2018 crosstrek instead of upgrading for bells and whistles for the 2021 sport....
those debugging tablets really are invaluable 7:46 that's something that annoying me on my car. it doesn't have a gauge for the oil temp and pressure either. the car will only light up with warnings after one of these is in critical condition. idiotic user interface design in the name of minimalism

@@seanturner7 thank you...I paused it and read ATS Chemical 505 CRF Fuel System Treatment but I just couldn't find the word Bernie's on it...I thought that is what he said! Thank you, that is a big help to my old ears!!!
2012 Subaru Outback have to repair the CVT. over $2K.
That's not bad $ if they actually fix it right.
Scotty thanks you for all the info Can you please say which brands to choose when shopping for oxygen sensor or other sensors, particuly for mazda cx5 thank you .
Does toyota and mazda use silicone sealant nowadays too?
Well done!
My 2008 4 cyl Honda Accord has the same code p0171 crazy timing w this video haha . I'm also wondering if 2000 rpms around 60 65 mph is normal? I also think my gas mileage is getting shittier could that be from the fuel pump?
A bad O2 sensor causes it to think it's not getting right AFR and it keeps adding more fuel thinking it it is lean.
@@markleger9238 beautiful makes sense
THANKS SCOTTY! YOU RULE!
How does this suburu have such high millage …for a suburu?
Scotty makes it look soooo easy😂
Lucas Transmission fix fixed my transission! Thanks Scotty
Never again
Liqui Moly is an excellent alternative.
Way ahead of the game - a Subaru engine that didn’t blow up by 150K.
I forget when exactly but Subaru finally switched to the MLS head gaskets. This one I believe wasn't included in that timeframe. Most of us just change the head gaskets BEFORE they blow. 😂 Saves quite the headache later. My 2000 ob is almost to 300k. Cheers 🍻
Is a 2nd hand outback ok?
What retailers sell this Bernie's fule treatment?
Ur a legend Scotty Steve in mayo ireland😂
Is Subaru good car?
That’s what I wanna know, compared to Volvo ??? Please respond to us??
what would have Scotty done, if he never had that sweet Diagnostic Scanner Tool OBD2 Car Code Reader and Auto Diagnostics.....?
figured it out himself lmao, i believe in him
My 2000 Impreza TS has a temperature gauge.😊
Hi Scotty, with your machine, you can actually see the temp of the engine real time with it.
Scotty .... That vehicle IS 13 YEARS old, with higher milage .... EVERYTHING (even us humans, have an END date...) LOL
Scotty did a video yesterday saying silicon lasts longer than traditional gaskets
Everyday is a sad day until Scotty makes a video😊
Excellent troubleshooting video but it didn't have an ending! Did fuel clean out work? Was sensor ultimately replaced?
Too much resistance means it is open.
No 😂
Too much resistance means it is shut, just like a woman who says no!
🤣@@lagunafishing
Where can we buy that treatment?
That is what I was thinking
Search Google for: ATSchemicals 505
Imagine Scotty hands moves are somehow connected to IP Man. 😅
Scotty really talks up Bernie's products.
So I tried them.
I can say they absolutely worked for me.
Is it going to turn your old beater into a New car?
Maybe not but if you have reasonable expectations, give them a try cuz they absolutely work as advertised.
If Subaru always had bad head gaskets and overheating
Why do Subaru blow up
Scotty I have a mystery issue with my car battery and start... i need you to see my car.. how would I schedule you to look at it?
It's worthy to rebuild a engine for a 2013 forester 😢
make sure to fix that leak also. that sensor looked like it had oil on it.
I really like the insight on how you diagnose a problem!
my '07 xt forester has codes for the secondary air system being either stuck open or closed, it has all the codes
what should i do. 184K miles there abouts
Great Infor Mr.Scotty 615
Thanks much!
192k miles probably has something to do with it.
So Subaru is full of ABS?😅
What bad wheel bearings sound like?
It's a buzzing sound. You will notice it when they go bad.
O2 sensor devil!!!!!!Emissions are a GRIFT for inspection mechanics. America needs an enema with emissions testing and carbon tax CRAP.
Scotty even on Hyundai you have to use Oem, bosh is the Oem supplier, but you have to buy it the Hyundai one
those debugging tablets really are invaluable 7:46 that's something that annoying me on my car. it doesn't have a gauge for the oil temp and pressure either. the car will only light up with warnings after one of these is in critical condition. idiotic user interface design in the name of minimalism
My wrx has a digital coolant temp and oil temp
I can't seem to find bernys here in Canada. Do you have another recommendation?
Scotty doesn't answer questions here. However you can order it online- about $70.
Liqui Moly is an excellent alternative.
Bernie's. Try that spelling.
Where can I find that cleaner you use?
I’ve looked online, couldn’t find it
And none of the parts store here around have it
