Sad to see AM transmitters closing where i live in rural Ireland RTE comes from a small transmitter which in turn is fed from another small one should any one go off air for maintenance then service is lost and that can be for a few hours , The BBC have backup with LW ,Not RTE Dublin station ,It is a small price to pay for LIVING in the STICKS and worth every minute of it
Over here I don't think I've ever even seen a longwave radio here in the states, but we still have thousands of FM and "medium wave" or what we call AM here for amplitude modulation (My vintage radios simply call the AM band "Broadcast") stations and still a few shortwave stations about as well. I do listen to a fairly local FM station through a streaming service as I'm just about a mile or two past its maximum range over the air but everything else I listen to on the airwaves on my old radios.
Who cares RTE is a very poor quality public broadcasting service costing the tax payers far more than its worth , Close it down or privatise it , If you want QUALITY public service then listen to BBC RADIO 4 they know how to serve the people
I like your choice of radios from the GOLDEN past when QUALITY radios were built , Not any more unfortunately , they should have included a SABA Freiburg 9 from the black forest .
@@rodsradios I also have a small collection mostly German,Saba Grundig Philips Telefunken Blaupunk all from the late 1950s. Early 60s the most modern one is the Grundig satellite 650 International All European nothing from the U/K
Good afternoon I have a Grundig Satellit 2400 radio, by pressing AM you can hear the frequencies well. When I change the upper button to FM, the frequency 389.5* appears and I cannot modify it to MHZ, what could it be? The rest of the khz frequencies work fine. thank you.
That new fangled Interweb thingy has a lot to answer for!
I agree , You know who invented them OUR GENERATION yes we have a lot to answer for
I like to dabble in vintage radio restoration , now I've no channelsleft to tune into !
Time to make an A.M. transmitter, see youtube for details. Cheers, Rod
There's Radio Algeria 3 on 252 a French service station. Best reception at night.
So sad. Probably won't be long until they switch off our beloved Droitwich transmitter (198kHz) here in the UK.

Rather poignant listening to the announcements. I too dabble with old equipment and have enjoyed listening RTE on LW.
Very sad 😥
It is a,pity no more Medium or Long wave RTE Radio anymore. The end of the Amplitude Modulation in Ireland.

These are from my own collection, sadly the chances of getting a SABA are virtually nil !
