  • Long ago there was a master named Adi Shankaracharya. He was a famous Advait guru, meaning he was a master of non-duality. All of his talks, teachings, and pointings were in the logical realm of Advaita. So, these words coming from Adi Shankaracharya can come as a bit of a surprise.
He was walking the streets of Kashi one day, and came across an elderly man struggling to learn sanskrit grammar. This sight pained him, and urged him to approach the man and say,
"Bhaj Govindam, Bhaj Govindam, Bhaj Govindam, moodh mate!"
    Meaning,
"Worship God, Worship God! Oh stupid mind!"
    He continued,
"Rules of Grammar will not save you at the time of your death."
What a beautiful reminder for us that no knowledge or experience will help you at the time of your death. A master who is so devoted to Advait Vedanta points directly to the path of Bhakti. This shows the true power of surrender. That at the end of life, no knowledge, nothing learned, and nothing experienced will help you. Only That, your true nature, will remain.
    Lyrics:
No knowledge or experience will help you
At the time of death, only True Nature will help you
Bhaj Govindam, Bhaj Govindam, Govindam Bhaj moodh mate!
This video is a compilation of kirtans we had the joy of sharing over the past year in India. If you find yourself in the video, leave a comment below with the timestamp of where you are!
We are excited to finally share our bhajans on our very first album, The Eternal Sutras.
