The SNP rely on the general public's ignorance of the economic consequences of Scotland leaving the UK. For example, Scotland’s national deficit is running at £12.6bn or 7% of GDP, including North Sea oil revenues, compared with the UK’s total deficit of £23.5bn or 1.1% of GDP (which includes Scotland’s figure). Therefore, over 50% of the UK's total deficit is due to Scotland's over spending.
Compare that to the population. Scotland has a population of around 5.4 million or 8% of the UK's population. Therefore it's blindingly obvious that the rest of the Union is heavily subsidising Scotland.
Regards their joining the EU, that's complete fantasy as EU membership rules require member states to have a budget deficit below 3% and to adopt the Euro. Therefore, the EU wouldn't allow Scotland to join as it stands and unless Scotland gives up sterling. The reason Greece needed a bail out was because it ran its finances in a similar way to Scotland, the EU zone can't afford another bail out, it's still paying the economic consequences of the last one with youth unemployment in Greece, Italy and Spain running at between 42% and 49% as those government's can't take the measures they need to stimulate their economies because of the 3% of GDP deficit cap imposed by the EU.
Exports to the rest of the UK account for 60% of all Scotland's exports, EU exports account for 18% and non-EU exports 22% (the USA continues to be Scotland's top non-UK export destination at £5.5 billion per annum). Therefore, all the fuss over a border between Northern Ireland and Ireland would pale into insignificance compared to having a border between Scotland and the rest of the UK.
I could go on but you'll never hear the SNP telling you these facts because they would lose the argument hands down. Not surprisingly many in the UK would actually support Scotland leaving the UK because the rest of the UK wouldn't have to keep subsidising the over spending by the SNP who are blatantly overspending to "buy" the support of the Scottish electorate with popular policies like no university tuition fees, free prescriptions and social care. All very good things to provide when someone else is paying for it!! Interesting that's why De Gaulle introduced the Common Agricultural Policy in 1962 because that's how he funded his supporter base when he was the President of France, i.e. getting someone else to subsidize (mainly) French farmers because France was on the brink of bankruptcy due to it's funding of farming subsidies. To this day 40% of all EU spending is on the CAP propping up inefficient businesses that own the vast majority of the EU's land mass.
    It's a mad world!

What utter tosh. The UK's total deficit for the last fiscal year was over 41 billion, not 23.5 billion. Only one region in the UK actually produces a surplus and that is London and the South East. All the rest produce spending deficits, particularly Wales, the North East and Northern Ireland, with deficits of around 32% compared to Scotland's 10%. Scotland's contribution to deficit spending is tiny, compared to all the other regions with a deficit added together. The total deficit figure has all spending within the calculation, including defence, social security, the NHS and everything else. The Scottish deficit contribution to the overall deficit is therefore miniscule. You present the overall UK deficit from a macro economy, involving hundreds of billions of spending, then subtract the Scottish deficit from it as if it were more significant than everything else in the sum. Then you make the absurd claim that Scotland alone is responsible for 50% of it. You could subtract the deficit from many other regions and make the same absurd claim about them. It's nonsense. Finally, you claim the Scottish deficit includes allowance for oil revenues. Government figures do not and never have, included oil revenues when calculating the Scottish spending deficit. The person relying on people's ignorance is YOU!

Have you included the 19 billion trade deficit the UK has with the EU
Also it's not just trade it's Scotland giving up its parliamentary position and handing it to Brussels in the soon to be United States of Europe.
The military aspect will also be interesting and the boarder controls between the nation's.

Except the Scottish government isn't allowed to overspend. In addition, we get back around half to two thirds of the money we send down. Add to that we are the only part of the UK with a trade SURPLUS.

If they did manage to stay in the eu they would have to use the euro as that is what the eu now says any new member cant opt out of the euro so they wont be independant as they will be ruled by the eu why do you think we voted leave so we have a say

    • @simongleaden2864

Scotland can't STAY in the EU - along with the rest of the U.K. it's leaving the EU in 31 days' time. An independent Scotland might APPLY for EU membership and it might be accepted, but a condition would be adoption of the Euro as Scotland's currency.

The people who want independence have to realise that it would mean a hard border between Scotland and England, border checks and tarrifs imposed it would be seen as a separate country and treated as one also no more bail outs from Westminster and they will also lose there currency i dont sturgeon and her lunatic mates realise this take it from me we are stronger together.
