Hello everyone, today's video is the second in the series I started last week where I share viewer submitted stories of survival, hiking, camping and other wilderness tales. These are true stories!
Our first story today takes us to central Alaska late November 1990...
The second story takes us to the Pacific Crest Trail summer of 2018 where John barely made it out!
Thank you to all who have submitted stories! if you want me to share a story of yours, please email me at: brymystytrail@gmail.com
I hope you guys enjoy this video and definitely let me know if it's something you want me to continue doing!
Thank you so much for watching!

And apparently never step out of direct view of your hiking partner and obey warning signs. But let me add a very important hiking tip. Take a good sized pistol and wear it inside a vest or something. Learn to use it through classes and get a permit if needed. There are dangerous predators out there. Humans!!

Don't forget a whistle:) Made sure to have comfortable boots, and use hiking) walking sticks if you're going up hills, uneven terrain to maintain your balance- also helps you walk faster:) Good luck and Happy Trails!

GOTTA FOLLOW your horse dude. I know it took time to gather yourself/bearings, etc but your horse will go (almost always) right back ‘home’...YOU were VERY fortunate! The next morning could’ve picked them right up, snowfall would be the outlier..

I really enjoyed this video. I enjoy all of your videos, this was just an unexpected and pleasant change to your typical format. Very nicely done. Also, are you super-human? I'm amazed that, without fail - including in the face of a catastrophic software/app mishap - you are cranking out videos 7 days per week! Quality videos at that! Amazing. Just remember: you deserve a break once in a while. We will always be here, patiently waiting for your next video. 💜💜💜

Anything can spook the most dependable horse at anytime.
I ride horses a lot and always have anything I need if I get separated from my horse on my person.
If you ride horses enough you’re going to fall off at some point.
Also I’m planning to get a personal locator beacon. You need this especially if you ride or hike alone.

I’m looking to retire for good in a year and I have been looking at Montana and other western states but lately I’ve been taking with my son about Alaska. He’s also a big outdoors sportsman like me. He just happened to be thinking along the same lines. I’ve been there several times and a few different areas and I really liked each and every location. I’ll decide in the next few months and I can completely understand the draw to that beautiful state. I’ve grown tired of Florida and the increasing population, crime and other issues. I’m on my second law enforcement job having retired once already from Philly. I’m eligible for my state job pension in a year. I look forward to settling somewhere remote and with natural beauty. It’s hard to top Alaska.

Stay away from the MatSu area-quite the meth hovel in that area of AK and way too many people. Check out the Interior if you want low density and lots of wild places close by, or Southeast AK if you love the ocean-and rain! It's been a great place to raise my kids and have had many amazing adventures, but have to be honest and tell you it's a hard place to grow older. Long long winters and colder than you can imagine. (I live in the Interior). I get out at least three times during the winter to Hawaii and Arizona to keep me sane :).

    • @mamacitabambi3558

Alaska sounds pretty wonderful. I'm sure the winters are very hard, depending on where you live. I've always wanted to go there. But, I'm not sorry I moved to Montana. It can get really cold here, too, though. Winters, in both States, can be rough the older you get. People are very friendly here, compared to some other places. Good luck to you and yours, wherever you move.
P.S. Montana is the #1 State for racism, which I really detest.

I really like this video a lot..
I’ve often wondered why is it hard to backtrack out of a canyon …
I understand getting boxed in … turned around in a canyon but I didn’t know physically it’s next to impossible.. I didn’t know that .
You are so correct with regards to being oblivious… I drove from Harrisonburg, VA to Bath County, VA. I was living in Harrisonburg, VA at the time and wanted to see the VA Highlands mountainous area folks told me about. I went to the visitor center in Hot Springs, VA to get help backtracking to get home- GPS wasn’t working .. I was given wrong directions ..somehow I ended up in the Monongahela National Forest.. I kept driving up and up the mountain .. switchbacks.. . then it occurred to me I hadn’t seen anyone in45 minutes and my gas tank was low .. it was winter .. the trees were bare.. looked like a nuclear Holocaust.. then fear set in as it was getting dark .. it was awful.. I had alot on my mind that day .. wasn’t paying attention.. Emotionally I was a mess for days ..

Bryan you ever consider that wolves are very opportunistic, why when you were thrown did they not attack. Maybe it wasn't a wolf at all. Have you had any Bigfoot experiences, I saw one, and I am 56 yrs old hiker and hunter. I don't do drugs and don't drink. It wasn't a bear. It was a bonifide sasquatch. I wish it wasn't. But your story strikes me as a experience. It scared the horse, and didn't bother you. And according to you, you were close to your home. So when he saw you leave, he followed to be curious.

What an interesting tale that You've told us about here, Bryan, and your own recent engagement in the remote Alaskan wilderness.
May I offer You a possible alternative explanation as to what (or Who) spooked your Horse and left You with an anomalous headache that has left You scratching said head for a simple recollection, let alone a rational explanation.
Well, since You really, truly have no inkling of what took place during that mass of missing time You and your Horse experienced.
Of course, it's commonly known that companions like large mammals such as Horses.... and Yourself....are rare and interesting non-native fauna to the local denizens. Those who
    have noticed and observed Your
behaviours in and around their homelands and in their own "backyards", so to speak.
Generally they are very interesting neighbors to fortunately have. Personally I have found it to be tremendously helpful to make Your Horse feel safe and secure out there deep, dark and remote wildernesses that ALL of the family group members that you brought with You, including pets, are all observed to be peaceful and inquisitive, but never intrusive, and seen as equal partners in your expedition, and NOT a food source.
    Love,
    Terry

    • @ScubaSteveCanada
      @ScubaSteveCanada 2 роки тому +2

Exactly ... if it is a true story, that point needs to be questioned. I was on a trail that had some "challenging" sections. The only one being having to cross a beaver dam. First instinct was "this can't be right" but I saw tracks on the other side so I crossed ... only to find out the tracks were made by moose, not humans.

    • @margyb7469
      @margyb7469 2 роки тому +3

I gave heard on other missing people's channel that ppl can get themselves by climbing down rocky slopes but not being able to get back up. I think it's because, in some situations, it's easy climbing down because you can jump down or the trail is steeper than they realise and having to climb back up when it may be slippery or nowhere to grip onto to pull yourself up.

Very enjoyable Bryan! A suggestion for future videos to help people understand these are viewer stories, not your own.... it's easy for some to mistake these stories as yours because you're reading them in the 1st person and in your natural unrehearsed & relaxed presentation style. Rather than change your style (which we all enjoy! 👍) just give viewers a visual cue.... eg. a small transparent text overlay such as _"Viewer Story #1..."_ _"Viewer Story #2...."_ over the top of your footage for the duration of each story (like a chapter title or source credit). Makes it easy for the viewer to recognise whose story it is (even if they skip a few minutes forward/back) and you don't need to change your overall format/editing/footage. Anyway just a thought... hope it makes sense!

Respectfully, horses go home to dinner always, unless pursued. Would it not be right to follow her hoofmarks back home to a trail that was familiar to you? I do not mean to be unkind at all. If the ground is dry and hard, few people that are not trained trackers could do it, I know.

And you wouldn't have a "sheriff" come to remote location in AK (we don't call them sheriffs by the way)- it would have been a state trooper. Lot sof holes here-mountain right behind house? Canyou can give a general location of where in central AK you were? This isn't adding up, Bryan.
