A channel that tells us the stories behind popular games and their authors is good enough, but a channel that does this that ALSO shows us the stories of those that rarely get the spotlight and praise that the mastermind gets in order to get this praise? This is why I love this channel. Great Job!
Shablam0 I'm still not great with a tablet, but here's a few things that have helped me Set the tablet on a flat surface in line with your monitor: Do NOT draw with the tablet in your lap like I did for the longest time. Try drawing in a soft style: Ironically, photorealistic airbrush art is actually less precise than cartoony styles. If you do it right, you can create some great art while gradually sharpening your tablet skills. Consider scanning hand-drawn artwork and coloring it in: Tracing is MUCH easier than drawing free-hand and coloring doesn't need to be as precise, so you can work on the basics while still having fun. Hope this helps :D
Nick of Time Hey, this might help me when I get a drawing tablet! Thanks so much! (I know you didn't refer the comment to me, but this advice was helpful XD)
She might have some innate talent along with the drive and passion for getting better at art. There's people who have no real skill some art yet with enough practice they can achieve a measure of success. But those with that little bit extra, they can go farther and reach the stars.
I do not believe in the innate talent to draw, she must have worked hard for the level she has. I like to draw too, but during my adolescence I gave up. I envy her perseverance. And this makes me feel so old... xD
_"He had an idea for a little indie game that needed a Japanese anime-inspired artstyle, and Satchely was the perfect person to help make his vision a reality"_ Me: *SCREAMING YOUR REALITY*
Lucky for Satchely, her favorite character is Natsuki. Now that would be the real question if she would have to draw a death scene for Natsuki (given if there was a chance in the story, which never happened)..... But I wonder what her reaction was when she had to draw Natsuki's neck bent at 90 degrees.
SeanFilmProduction I guess it’s because Satchley (sorry if I spelled that wrong) had more work. The background artist didn’t have to draw as much. That’s just what I think, I honestly have no idea :/
Kate B well, it's true than satchely had A LOT more of work than velinquent but velinquent has a perfect control of his graphic style, it's the same for the light, the color and he knew how to make his backgrounds perfectly fit with the satchely's style he's just as good as satchely (sorry if you didn't understand my comment, english isn't my main language and i'm learning it now ^^" )
RED Galaxy true, but satchely had to draw a lot more models, and had a lot more work, considering that Dan Salvato wanted the characters to look perfect, while he didn’t really care about the backgrounds as much.
Max Marriner yeah!!!! 😍😍😍😍😉 It helps share great stories about gaming that i didn't know about, and does that in a calming voice with great drawing!!!! 😍😍😍😍😉 I feel like this is important to the gaming scene, as because of the media today and their sometimes bad portrayal or not big interest in gaming, some stories can go unnoticed , but this channel helps shares them even to people outside of the close community of a certain game!!!! 😍😍😍😍😉 Also i can really resonate with the artist Satchel as its true that sometimes , happiness and fun can be found in surprisingly little things in life!!! 😍😍😍😍😉 Also we both like Pokemon and the DDLC artwork kicks ass! Satchel also did some DDLC art after the game released which you can check out on her Twitter account in the videos decription
This is such a nice calming channel to listen to. It's like listening to Bob Ross in his Joy of Painting, and we learn about the people who bring to life the games we enjoy and their stories can motivate us to do great things as well. Great job Satchely and great job Video Game Story Time!
+Jon Hummel We've actually been considering doing a Joy of Painting style video where Kotor (the artist) talks his way through a video game drawing as he goes. People seem in favour of it, so it might be something we try eventually...
I would love to see that. I love the fun, simplistic art you use in these stories. It's like someone reading a children's book for a library story time.
It's not to do with British accent, it's about what the angelsiezed version of 'ドキ―ドキ' should be. I'm British and I say 'Doe-kee doe-kee' although 'dockee-dockee' is actually more accurate to the Japanese pronunciation.
Seeing this made me cry in tears, because it made me feel with regret that I changed majors from graphic design to communications. Because as a kid, I LOVED drawing and making stories. As a kid I would always say that when I grow up, I wanted to create stories. Didn't care of it was movies, comics, or animation. I just wanted to create a story for people. Unfortunately as I got older, reality of life stroke in, and I no longer felt that determination that I had as a kid, in high school, I wanted to keep drawing, but my artstyle still didn't improve. I took art classes, still no improvement whatsoever. So, by the time I got to college, and studied graphic design, I realised that art was NOT for me, so instead I changed majors to Communications. And now I'm 24 years old, still in college, but graduating soon. I feel like I still want to make stories, but I just don't know how. I can't draw, my grammar for sophisticated vocabulary is horrible so I can't write novels. It's just so frustrating to me, but seeing this video made me happy that Satchelly was and is STILL working hard on her art, I saw her page and it's just so AMAZING!! I just wish I had the patience to draw you know?
To quote my best friend (and ex-girlfriend), "doing what you love is the first step." Definitely an inspiring tribute to the hand behind the world that we all love. Thanks for sharing this!
Her art is so authentic and true that I thought that it must be a work of an experienced Japanese anime/manga artist. Now that I heard this story I'm even more impressed. She's really good and hopefully will become even better in the near future.
Thank you so much i think this gonna be lost so i just need this off my chest. You help me overcome my suicidal thoughts but i feel they will be back because im nearing to go collage and i have a passion but it need a lot of wealth (programming), your voice its almost like asmr, the art like chibis in western form, and the video editing keeping on track of what to do, is like calming down those voices near my head
This series and channel are perhaps the most inspiring and uplifting things I have yet to encounter in my effort to be a content creator (of art, video games, etc.) It's incredible to hear the stories of tribulation and effort that has gone into whatever the work being discussed is (in this case Satchely's artworks). I know every time I need to refind that spark of motivation to continue on in my endeavors, I can come here to this beautiful channel and find just that.
I wonder how Satchely reacted when Dan said she needed to draw Sayori's uh.... very disturbing scene. Anyway, thank you so much for making this video! It's so calming to listen to ~
I could say Satchely is my actual biggest inspiration for me to be an artist in the future. Since I've seen the character designer of Doki Doki, I really want to make a drawing like her. Everyday I go to the table, take a paper and trying to draw just to improve my skills (it's hard draw hands, my worst nightmare, but I trying) and in a near future, I gonna buy a draw table to improve more and learn more things!

I'm angry that UA-cam algorithm didn't recommend your work to me earlier. Great atmosphere, interesting story, useful moral. Hope this channel can get more traction! Your videos make these excellent games even better :D
What a pleasant story. Getting out of your comfort zone certainly isn't an easy thing, but to then also put your whole ego out there by freelancing is just plain scary. Not to mention making 30 pieces of western-style art for a college entry portfolio when you've trained yourself in anime-style art...it must've been a daunting task. But a fun one, I'm sure! Best to work for the things you truly want in life. And look at how well it turned out...millions of people from all over the world have played/watched DDLC and have seen her unbelievably cute creations pop out at them at the title screen. Doo doo dooooooooo do do dooo do do do dooooo do do do do do (doooooo) DOKI DOKI!!! :D Haha, really. Doesn't get old. Satchely's art matched the cuteness of Dan's soundtrack and writing pound for pound. It's an impressive feat. The soundtrack is super cute. Except for a song or two, you know...*cough* Anyway, hats off to the literature club and VGST! Thanks, peeps.
She did an amazing job making her dreams possible! I'm proud of her going towards it. This will truly inspire other future artists to never give up on their dreams. Also love the pose near the end (Monika's Pose xD)
As I said so many time 'Thank you so much'. You and your team really give us so many feelings and of course the character left a deep impression on us. Thank you so much x1000000000... I love you Satchely.
These videos are just so relaxing to watch and listen to. It’s always enjoyable to hear the story of your favorite game designers told in such a calm and relaxing way. Thanks for these videos!
It's surprising how much I find myself able to relate to Satchely's story. Granted, I haven't quite reached the point that she's at now, but I'm hopeful. And seeing similarities in a successful artist's journey is so inspiring.
Yall telling me Satchley made the art for one of the most popular indie games in recent memory as a high schooler? Damn. That really makes me feel like I'm behind, being fresh out of high school myself.
It feels like to me that Satchely's art style was a perfect fit for the game, and in fact even played a big role in saving the game. If you were to slap in any generic or classic anime looking art style, it's obvious that the visual emotions of the characters and their appearences wouldn't reflect the feeling as well as Satchely's designs did. There may only be slight differences between her style and close to anime art styles, but it turned out that way in order to stay true to generic anime feelings as well as introducing a fitting style for the game. We can clearly recognize it as anime, and the little differences help us embrace the Doki Doki feeling that it emits.
Why does this channel only have this many subscribers. The woman's voice and the arywo4k are both extremely cute and the channel itself is very inspiring and motivational. So thank you for making these awesome videos and keep up the good job.
I swear I cry every time I see one of these but the life lessons are truly incredible I feel art is made for everyone and inspiration comes from all kinds of places Satchely you did an amazing job making us love your character designs and likeliness of them and thank you video game story time for making me smile ^-^
I love these success stories. Good for her! I hope she has more growth and big proyects coming her way! Thanks for the video. It was both enlightening and relaxing.
That was an amazing video about Satchely's story :) As an artist myself I relate deeply with a lot what is said in your video. My respect for satchely grew more after this! Also respect to you for making this! I hope to see more stories about other artists :)
I recently became a fan of her work after playing the game. Also preparing for college as we speak. I'm trying to get better at art every day and recently purchased a wacom intuos comic as well and I'm going to practice on a regular basis. I'm a decent artist but I'm ready to take the next big step and maybe get good enough to start sharing mine myself. I don't see art as enough of a passion to take a career in it bit I still want to get better over time cause I know the skill may come in handy. Hearing her story in this video was pretty inspiring. No one is truly perfect at art and once you ackowledge your imperfections you can only grow more
Monika Natsuki Sayori *And Yuri would all like to thank Sachley for her hard work and dedication to complete DDLC and make the legendary game that will be rememberd for decades*
I love watching your videos, it's just that you have such a relaxing voice that I tend to fall asleep during your videos. Not that I find you boring. It's very informative. I just gotta make sure I don't try to watch your videos after I've come home from work after a 10 hour shift. I get very tired so quickly.
I'm really glad for Satchely being able to follow her dreams and do what she wanted, and it is really inspiring like you said. I also hope that you can follow your dreams too, whether they are to do UA-cam full time with this channel or whatever! I can see this channel getting really big soon(ish), and I really hope it does because the content you make is awesome and very well made! I'm glad I found it early.
Ok, so, Satchely literally sounds *just* like me! I like drawing a lot, and I especially love the anime/manga art style. (I really suck at drawing it, but I’m getting better) On top of that, hands and legs are really hard for me to draw, as well as the torso of a character. I’m going to pay extra attention to this game now! :)
I love all your videos so much! I love art and drawing too and every time I watch one of your videos it fills me with so much inspiration! Thank you so much and I love your stories and work!
These types of videos are the inspiration of many who seek a light in its penumbra ... Thank you very much for sharing this, your work is excellent worthy of journalistic recognition! Satchely, and the team behind showed the world that passion and dedication to teamwork ... They are the example, and forever will be those people who will remain in your memories for not only giving us a product, but also a piece of your hearts Without DLCs or seasonal passes, without Price and charges, we charge for the work with our time ... At least I can buy it with my soul, and my most sincere respect and admiration. God bless you all, excellent video, has taught me that hope and dedication in this video game industry to which I have lost love lately :') 💝
Her past is my present, and I hope my future goes just as well as hers. I loved this story because it made me realize that people can be so creative, and so unique! I loved it and I wish this channel many thank you's from the lessons they have taught me! BTW, love the art and the beautiful voice!💜
So I am an artist as well (a young one) and as you explained how Satchely came from the beginning to now, I was seeing some real connections. Being so young (and not so talented yet) I keep thinking I'll never be as good as all the people who inspired me. So...thank you both for showing that I need to keep going. :D
"Japanese inspired style" *snickers* That's kinda amusing, since the look of anime was heavily influenced by the art of Walt Disney cartoons. Which basically means the girls in DDLC are artistically inspired by Donald Duck.
Disney inspired Osamu Tezuka, and Osamu Tezuka inspired Maurício de Sousa, the creator of popular brazilian comic book “Turma da Mônica” (Monica’s Gang, in english). That means that, indirectly, Maurício was inspired by Walt Disney. The behemoth of brazilian comics was indirectly inspired by the american behemoth. Cool, huh?
Thank you for this 😭 this is inspiring to me as an artist also in high school and unsure of what I want to do with my art. I probably won’t have the same set of circumstances as Satchely did but I hope to have at least some of the success that she did 💓
Thanks for the ❤️! Me and my brother already have an idea for a card game we are working on! I don't think it's going to become a video game, but I really want to make something that's meaningful...
I’m five years late to the party, but thank you for this great story about the one who made one of my strongest gaming experiences in 30 years of gaming come to life.
I love watching your videos. It inspires me to do better in whatever I do, and I don't wanna sound like a creep, but your narrative voice is just so soothing to hear 😂
Satchely's story is disturbingly a mirror of my artist life... except that she continued down the path of what she loves whereas I couldn't continue to a certain point because of many many limitations of my city and mentality. I'm not blaming everything on circumstances, it's mostly my fault I haven't been continuing my dreams of making my own world and drawing it. Until recently "like 3 days ago" I finished Doki Doki Literature Club and it really stayed in me somehow I don't know how to describe the feelings I have dwelling in me I just knew I HAD to know more about this game and it's creation, now that I've found both Dan and Satchely's background videos I finally feel some closure inside of me. But another door opens of mixed feelings and left behind projects that had been sealed away by my own hand. As of right now I'm struggling to make a living in my country by helping a friend realize his projects in which he and I can make a franchise which in the end will earn us a profit and generate jobs for honest people who just want to work for a living in a sane and "hopefully" non toxic enviorment like most jobs. It's taken lots of years of frustration and of mixed results "specially when things seem to pick up only to fall flat again for a certain period". I wish I could have studied in an art and design course, it's something I've always wanted but I've never been able to afford due to my city not having any interest in such things. Actually there's no art culture where I live at, either you study medicine or psychology. Much like Satchely I had to learn everything by myself with tutorials. I also in one instance got a Wacom Bamboo tablet and used photoshop to draw my art which I uploaded to deviantart. The point is, I will now try harder to align my life towards my true passion and love. I've been worrying and focusing on the wrong things with my spare time. I'm going to continue the path I had left aside because of my own insecurities and doubts. Even if it takes me nowhere I'll be happy in the end knowing I always did what I loved. Thanks Video Game Story Time...
I am in the same position. I live in Pakistan and its a relatively poor country, no one I know takes interest in art and the majority of people take courses in Biology, Computer Science or Banking. There are no music classes in my school nor art classes in my city. There are a few but they're quite lackluster and/or expensive. I would love to take both these classes but unfortunately, I can't so I decided the best way is for me to keep practicing alone and to be honest, if I didn't have the internet and video games I would have ended up in a sad spiral of uncreativity. My plans are to continue it and move out when I have the chance. (Currently, we don't have enough money). I'm glad that you decided to do what makes you happy. If the place where you live doesn't provide these facilities then you can use Udemy courses and teach yourself, there are tons of tutorials and references online and you can learn just as easily. Maybe you won't be handed a degree which is true but at least you can be an amazing artist regardless. I'm rooting for you, buddy!
@IuseArchbtw-di6cd I mean yeah sure some indie games did fail “ individually”but it didn’t ruin the reputation of indie games as a whole.. you could say the same thing about modern AAA gaming.. I said this a long time ago tho so I Think I worded it kind of weird…

Ok, I have to say that Satchely did a PHENOMENAL job designing the characters. Thank you for letting us know her story!!
Thank her! She was really helpful throughout the whole interview process, it was really fun to work with her on this!
I still don't understand how she's able to draw with that tablet. I tried it myself. It's much harder than you think.
Shablam0 Yeah I know, it must have been extremely hard and frustrating. She did a phenomenal job though!

Well she started drawing digital art at the age of 12, and she's been drawing for about 8 years. I think she's around 20 now.

As I said so many time 'Thank you so much'. You and your team really give us so many feelings and of course the character left a deep impression on us. Thank you so much x1000000000... I love you Satchely.
I'm so glad this popped up in my recommended ❤
Originality and quality, just want i came for and got.
These videos are just so relaxing to watch and listen to. It’s always enjoyable to hear the story of your favorite game designers told in such a calm and relaxing way. Thanks for these videos!
You're voice is so calming. Thank you for making an amazing channel that makes me inspired to do my own work. Great video!
I’m going to keep this short and just say seeing this does bring a smile to my face.
This girl legit got the same life story as me
oh, except for the part where she actually got good at drawing.
I love your voice. It's so relaxing! Keep up the fantastic voice over work! ^-^
2:54 "She drew with her Wacom Intuos tablet" *Looks to the floor on the right, sees the exact same tablet*
"Maybe....I should start drawing"
i love satchelys art so much. i love looking at her deviant art. her art is beautiful
This channel honestly needs more subs
I'm telling you
Satchley and Monika have some awfully similar hair
I Know We Are 2 Very Different Channels But I Really Love These Videos I Can’t Wait To See More... :)
Wow, this is a story I didn't know about and is done with such hard work it turned out amazing, thank you very very much!
I love how you give the story behind not only the creator, but the artists as well. Most artists get overlooked I love your stories :D
I swear I cry every time I see one of these but the life lessons are truly incredible I feel art is made for everyone and inspiration comes from all kinds of places Satchely you did an amazing job making us love your character designs and likeliness of them and thank you video game story time for making me smile ^-^
I love your voice and the writing is spot on! Great stuff!
hey i'm here early! i love this storytime! ^.^ thank you for sharing Satchely's story!
I love these success stories. Good for her! I hope she has more growth and big proyects coming her way!
Thanks for the video. It was both enlightening and relaxing.
i just realised she had to draw sayori being hanged
These videos are really nice and calming to me, so thank you for making these
That was an amazing video about Satchely's story :) As an artist myself I relate deeply with a lot what is said in your video. My respect for satchely grew more after this! Also respect to you for making this! I hope to see more stories about other artists :)
Your presentation and delivery are just magnificent, thank you for making this series!
Thanks for sharing this; it truly gave me more inspiration to become an artist when I know the story of one of my role models.
Heartwarming story. It's just sad I didn't have time to click it sooner.
This is so good and you have such a calm voice and the art is cute I'm really inspired by how she grew as an artist
No one is truly perfect at art and once you ackowledge your imperfections you can only grow more
Monika
Natsuki
Sayori
*And Yuri would all like to thank Sachley for her hard work and dedication to complete DDLC and make the legendary game that will be rememberd for decades*
Wonderful job, as always!
God bless you all, excellent video, has taught me that hope and dedication in this video game industry to which I have lost love lately
:')
💝
Her past is my present, and I hope my future goes just as well as hers. I loved this story because it made me realize that people can be so creative, and so unique! I loved it and I wish this channel many thank you's from the lessons they have taught me! BTW, love the art and the beautiful voice!💜
Thank you for sharing such an inspirational story
Just discovered this channel, this format is a fantastic idea, hope you get more subscribers.
So I am an artist as well (a young one) and as you explained how Satchely came from the beginning to now, I was seeing some real connections. Being so young (and not so talented yet) I keep thinking I'll never be as good as all the people who inspired me. So...thank you both for showing that I need to keep going. :D
I know I'm a lil late, but this makes me so happy. Satchely rules!
"Japanese inspired style" *snickers* That's kinda amusing, since the look of anime was heavily influenced by the art of Walt Disney cartoons. Which basically means the girls in DDLC are artistically inspired by Donald Duck.
WitheredBBfilms I never knew this. If this is true, I might just stop hating anime so much.
I feel complete. It's as if I've finally taken my first step into a whole new realm of my passion.
Thank you for this, comrade.
It came full circle.
I probably won’t have the same set of circumstances as Satchely did but I hope to have at least some of the success that she did 💓
Wow I'm blown away what an inspiration you won a follower thank you for the story
Do you think you’ll do storytimes about games made in the past like Pong or Centipede. I think there would be some good lessons in there.
Did anyone else notice that Satchely was wearing casual Yuri’s clothes I don’t know if that was intentional but it was a nice little Easter egg
Fantastic video! I love this!
This Channel is A Message That Story Times Can Be Nice
...I can relate to this artist so much lol, someday, I wish my art can be as good as hers, doki doki does have beautiful art
These are so inspiring. It makes me so exited for when I make my own game.
Also, can you do the story of Minecraft?
Thanks for the ❤️! Me and my brother already have an idea for a card game we are working on! I don't think it's going to become a video game, but I really want to make something that's meaningful...
I'm new here and I love what you're doing and how you edit these. Subbed! Will spend time going through the rest during my downtime! Keep it up!
RINSENPAI ! I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS DKABSKSN💕💕
Satchly thank you soooo very much. You are a goddess
This is truly inspiring
Meanwhile Dan Savato be like. " Cute girls doing cute things... Blegh! "
You guys always give great information I learn a lot from you guys thank you!
Can you do a video on Jillian Ashcraft? She was the voice of Monika in the credits song "Your Reality"
*_JUST SATCHLEY_*
Soo... she draw the scene that sayori diead and yuri.... omg she must be soo sad or something
The only thing I can say is Caleb Montes was wrong, indie games didn’t ruin anything.
@IuseArchbtw-di6cd I mean yeah sure some indie games did fail “ individually”but it didn’t ruin the reputation of indie games as a whole.. you could say the same thing about modern AAA gaming..
I said this a long time ago tho so I Think I worded it kind of weird…
