Hey remember that one time Pokémon Hunter J almost committed intended murder ORDERING HER DRAPION TO KILL ASH?!?! Everything about J brings back dark memories. She had technology that turned Pokémon into statues to make it easier to sell them to the highest bidder. So not only were the Pokémon being sold at the black market but they couldn’t do a single thing because they’d stay as statues unless someone turns off the machinery that kept them trapped. The movie with Magearna, where Meowth is telling the other pokemon what it can hear while Magearna is being used to power the machine, how its crying, and horrified that its being used to destroy the home of the pokemon it was trying to protect, couldn't help but shed some tears during that moment
There was Guzma vs Lana in the Alola League. Besides freezing its legs, Primarina couldn’t lay a finger on Golisopod as it repeatedly attacked with Poison Jab, crushing her windpipe with Throat Chop to cancel out Sparkling Aria and cleaving the Z-Move in half with a Liquidation.
I was 21 when Pokemon started, and I watched it with my then 5 year old brother. I watched until The Power of Us, then I was done. I've been fighting depression my whole life, watching a Pokemon die for real was it for me. Stupid & immature? Possibly. But I feel emotions hard & deep, so I was done.
Pokémon was my childhood ash and Pikachu going away. I’m gonna miss their adventure so much they were a part of me, and they will always be a part of my childhood. Thank you for the 25 years of your journey even if they’re not gonna be on Pokémon anymore I hope they would probably make a cameo in the new Pokémon series that’s coming out, but Pokémon will forever be my childhood. It was the first anime that I ever watched when I was younger, and I still watch the old episodes from time to time.
The darkest scene in Pokemon I would say is the scene when Mewtwo is growing up and sees his clone friends disappear before his eyes. Then destroy the laboratory where it was created.
The death of Luxray sacrificing itself to protect Sorrel when he was lost in a snowstorm in Pokémon the movie I choose you is one of saddest moments I ever experienced as well as in the first movie Mew Vs Mewtwo when Ash was turned to stone and I still cry every time I watch them thanks for sharing this 😢👍❤️
Hey, WatchMojo. You should definitely do a list of the Top 20 Cutest Pokemon. Here are some examples you should mention. Examples: Eevee Pikachu Jigglypuff Skitty Clefairy Emolga Togepi Oshawott Teddiursa Pachirisu Dedenne Minccino Pichu Would you mind doing this list?
Can you imagine if the protagonist of the Pokemon Adventures manga lost a arm like what happened to Mirko from My Hero Academia when she battle high end nomus
Snubbul's death was terrifying tbh. They actually showed the fire consuming her. Theres also an episode in S&M where Lana's sisters are having fun in the spiritual world with a bunch of ghosts without knowing that they need to be rescued in time or the poor girls will be gone forever.
What about "Tentacool vs Tentacruel", Luxray dead in Pokemon I choose you movie and Ash possessed by king of Pokelatis in "Battling the enemy within" etc. Some honorable mentions would be nice
Tentacool VS Tentacruel isn't as dark but still kinda is in a way. If I remember correctly there was a rumor for that episode, it was also same time or around same time 9/11 happened so they based it off of that
When I was a kid playing Firered for the first time, I was trying to figure out how I'd beat Giovanni's Mewtwo. And then i actually battled him and realized it was just an anime thing lol
“Look mighty morphin Michael Vick, your animated slave fights make me sick. When I battle a foe from so simple a beginning, I’m not Charles Sheen but I am Dar-winning!” Charles Darwin
I thought the saddest thing about the first Pokemon movie was Ash turning to stone. Then I found out about Mewtwo having to watch his only friend die at an early age. :(
OMG this video brought back some memories Garry's pokemon didi't deserve that brutel beating and the way that the gang were more than willing to save their pokemon wow I still remember how Jessie and james did the same for their pokemon 😭
The Unown episode in master journeys deserves a mention. A girl’s Cleffa is dead and her sisters tells her Cleffa’s spirit is in the stars. The girl wishes for it to be night every day so she can see Cleffa’s spirit. It does end with her hugging Cleffa’s spirit and saying goodbye, but the whole thing is just sad considering it was a baby Pokemon that died.
Mewtwo: "Yo Yveltal, you know what would be funny?" Yveltal: "Hm?" Mewtwo: "Turning living things to statues" Yveltal: "That shit do be funny, not gonna lie."
I forget what episode it was but there was a Pokemon episode during the hoenn season where ash picked up a cursed artifact of some kind and got possessed by an evil spirit. I remember the part where he's in a Pokemon battle and he orders grovyle to dodge an attack by hiding behind the referee 🙁
A know you’re choosing nostalgia and all that yadda yadda whatever, but I’d say one of, if not the darkest moment In Ash’s 25 year run is when he almost froze/asphyxiated to death in space in the Black/White movie.
And yet the real number 1 isn't even on your list. Sure there are already 2 other Mewtwo entries on this list, but hear me out because this one takes the cake. Mewtwo's origin is a short that takes place before the first movie Mewtwo Strikes back. A nameless scientist's daughter Amber dies tragically. He somehow captured her aura in an attempt to bring her back to life. He began experimenting with cloning to accomplish his goal. His wife left him because he couldn't move on. Giovanni hired him to create the worlds strongest Pokemon and he succeeded. His creation Mewtwo conversed with the other clones and Amber using telepathy. His power was killing the others without realizing it. After their demise the camera pans across the empty tanks where the dead clones were recently removed. Mewtwo was then drugged so he wouldn't remember this tragic event. Then in the first Movie Mewtwo kills that same scientist for considering him only an experiential subject. Why this wasn't even considered for the list is beyond me as its clearly the darkest story in the Pokemon anime.
Despite "Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction" being released in 2014 while "Avengers: Infinity War" was released in 2018, I cannot help but point out how similar Ash's Pikachu turning to stone is to Peter Parker/Spider-Man getting dusted. I'd even say that Lysandre's entire plan in XYZ regarding Zygarde was dark. That series in general got grim when it was nearing the finale between Team Flare and the world. Wanna say there were even involvments of torture of various beings (mostly Zygarde and maybe Ash and his Pokemon)? Lysandre traps Ash and his Pokemon; they restrained and immobilized. This alone isn't super "dark", but since it's a 10 year old child being contained by a grown man with evil intentions, and possibly being tortured to bring out the power of Ash-Greninja (if not destroy that bond completely)...Yeah. Zygarde is on a rampage. This isn't really the dark part, but anywho...The fact that there are also TWO Zygarde and one was "Squishy", found by Bonnie, was pretty bad regarding whose friend it was. Lysandre seemingly dies in the defeat of Zygarde, engulfed in an explosion and no one knows where he is. It's most likely he's dead (but my headcanon doesn't involve him dying, but that's my personal bias; I actually loved Lysandre, lol). Onscreen deaths are becoming more common, but to have someone die in an EXPLOSION and not be seen again is way different than being turned into stone and reserrected or being killed, only to continue living as a spirit or even being "thought to had died" but in reality wasn't dead (Detective Pikachu) or may just be in another dimension (aka, Cyrus' fate in Diamond/Pearl anime).
I remember seeing Ash turned into stone on the first movie. No joke here, I saw that moment at a Walmart store where they were playing that scene. That was my first experience as a Pokemon fan, and I've been one ever since
