I recently converted a 16" Floor tom into a bass drum.. but it still sounded like a floor tom... Well you can't just put a bass drum head on it so here was my solution!
Great project man. I was looking for an alternative to the big brand conversion kits which are pretty costly and this video is exactly what i need! Very nicely done, thanks so much!
Only issue is are the tom lugs as bass lugs with proper tension rod spacing not rubbing against bass drum hoops? Why bass lugs are different from Tom lugs.
I would love to see someone convert the LP Raw Street Cans into a 3 piece traditional kit using the Trick floor Tom to bass drum converter kit that you used and maybe the Aquarian Super Kick batter head. Then another floor Tom mounted like a rack tom with the Trick 360 mount either on a stand or using a Gibraltar or Pearl drum rack. Add a Trick bass drum pedal and your snare and cymbals of choice. It would look a bit like a hybrid of Slipknot percussion section (Joey, Shawn & Chris) melded together, lol \m/
I'm not sure when they came out but you can get a 16" emad and 14/15/16/18 aquarian superkick1 and superkick 2 that are made to work with standard tom hoops, so you dont have to go through all this hoop hardwear business. see the top row here shop.aquariandrumheads.com/search?type=product&q=with+tom+hoop
Hi! Good thing you got it working. Does not the pedal hit the rim now, because the rim is deeper or did you fix that in some way? Btw could you link the head, it seems to be a great head! :)
So to use the main drive pedal you would want to cut a notch out in the hoop as the cam and chain do slightly touch. But the left pedal does not touch the hoop and that's what I'm using
Rob Keller I would LOVE and 18" floor tom! If that's what you mean. I've seen several turned into floor Tom's. I did one myself. Just connected clamps to floor tom legs then connected those to stands. I didn't swap hoops though. But you could easily swap hoops too if wanted
Zack Zweifel I'm kind of shooting for a BIG and (I guess you could say) dramatic sound. Kind of almost like a low timpani type thing. Just now researching how to accomplish that.
Maybe a stupid question but can't you use the original hoop of the floor tom to attach the 16 inch emat evans? I don't have a children's drumkit but I do have a pdp 16 inch floor tom

Glad I could help!
Sounds awesome with the popcorn snare! Love that small kick punch
That is an awesome project
You can see the bass drum is still in use in the background of the new cover I did for you lol I've used it for super small gigs too. Fun little thing
You are pretty amazing
Thank you!
Love seeing the love of my Yamaha hip gig bass drum growing, 16 inch rules, and all drums fit in side, lol
Very cool Zack. Keep us posted if you do anything else to it. Here or on DC

Wow you have so many drums and cymbals
Yeah small addiction I guess I'd say :)
Can you tell me what thread you purchased? I’m having the same issues
if your still struggling with the bass drum sound. Watch this video. And check this foam thing he puts inside that makes it soynd like a bass drum

Does't the "rod" of the beater hit the hoop?
@@aaaltonen3130 no didnt hit for me
Thank you for this! I actually wanted to do the reverse, and with an 18-inch bass drum. Do you think it is doable?

where did you find the hoops?
Jim Bo musicgoround.com they worked with me to ship me just the hardware and hoops from this cheap kids kit.
Your drill may be faster but speed is not necessary for enjoying the process.

No. A bass drum head and rim are made different than a tom head.
@@ZackZweifel they make an emad in Tom hoop version.
@@userplayeraccount they do now. They didn't originally when I did this though.
@@ZackZweifel ok. Nice video. I love my 16"! Keep it up!
whats the point of all of this work, and extra expenses?
It's cheaper than buying another drum
Seems to be more money than actual work to me Alex. But I am Old School, creative and highly resourceful myself.
2 years later... what was the batter head you use? cheers
I'm actually still rocking that EMAD head. I actually use this bass drum a lot as a bop style kit. That EMAD is killer.
What length bolts are you using?
they were 4.25" long
