Paused the video at 5:13 and went to Garden Center. Picked up 2 pomegranates, 2 cherry bushes, 1 blackberry, 2 sunflowers, and a ton of veggie and herb starts. Going back tomorrow for a dragon fruit.
Paul how did you learn so much about plants and gardening? I am amazed how much you know about natives and tropical. Great channel love watching. How is your new baby doing?
You should seriously consider planting more Native trees. We need to help out the local bees, butterflies and birds. They also survive more than non-native. I'm happy you are incorporating then in.
Wow so like...why am I thinking you had 1mil+ subs?? Am I confusing you w someone else? I mean, you have the personality and presence to go far. Maybe that's what made me think that 😇😜👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You're my favourite gardener! I love gardening and get inspired via UA-cam channels and such. But I have the absolute most fun with your videos! I'm actually laughing out loud, yes! Lol for real! Thanks from Sweden, Martina 😊
Very interesting. I had just planted the milkweed. The next day my brother ranted how that plant is poisonous to monarchs. Meant to rip it out but the heat makes it no fun to garden. Looks like it will stay.
I’m with you, I don’t amend my soil either. My plants survive in spite of, rather than because of, me. 😂 I’ve kept good records so I can purchase more of what thrives.
Okay Okay let me head on over to the garden center tomorrow... Have you done a video yet on the quality of your soil? I have thick heavy clay in my yards, I cant imagine anything thriving outside of containers
You’re going to Love that Pride of Barbados. We had a couple of them next to our house in south Texas and people literally would stop their cars to ask what this beautiful plant was👍🏻 Give it a nice corner to accent.
Hey Paul! I'm from Houston and I recently found your channel! Really awesome and inspiring stuff! I'd love to learn how to start a native garden and food forest for my own home in the near future as well as for my parents so I'll be staying tuned. Keep up the great work, can't wait for more of your videos 😃
I just don’t like the tropical milkweeds because they are sooooo over planted and most people don’t know the drawbacks, but my thing is why not just plant the native ones! They way more beautiful anyways and you don’t get the drawbacks.
Also, one thing you didn’t really mention is that these tropical milkweeds are a problem because they have that harmful element in greater quantities that the monarch’s don’t normally eat because they don’t lay their eggs on it down in Mexico! But when they are up here they do and that’s where the problem starts, yes cutting it down is a solution but I say just give it up and plant the natives, they are better adapted and more beautiful anyways and don’t cause harm!
Yo! Just found your channel! Really enjoy it ! I’m doing the same on my 1/2 lot, trying to put in more native plants for pollinator plants !! Keeps the vids coming! I’m in Deep South Texas right on the border of Mexico, so we’re pretty much in the same zone!
Do you have passion flower vine ? There's a butterfly that only hosts on it ... Also There's a pipevine that Also has a pipevine butterfly that hosts on it in Texas area
They’re climate zones, if you want to know what yours is just type in the name of your city followed by climate zone on Google. It will tell you what plants will survive in your region.
No, don't spend money on Esperanza plants.! They grow so easily and spread like crazy. Get cuttings and grow for free. Just make sure they are where you want them to stay. The root ball gets big after a few years.
I’ve never heard about the parasites 🦠 in milkweed… I’ve been growing it in Houston in my butterfly garden for like 10 years , never had any issues. Texas is on their migration path.
Man you’re really doing your research on the milkweed, respect!

They’re climate zones, if you want to know what yours is just type in the name of your city followed by climate zone on Google. It will tell you what plants will survive in your region.

I’ve never heard about the parasites 🦠 in milkweed… I’ve been growing it in Houston in my butterfly garden for like 10 years , never had any issues. Texas is on their migration path.
The parasite is only on tropical milkweed, I’m not sure how noticeable it is to the observer per say.
@@paulplantu yeah I only grow the tropical variety - from my experience it’s their favorite. Never noticed the parasites fortunately. 🪴
How do you know so much about plants 🪴?
He probably researches the plants after purchasing!! 😉😀
