It was great. I can't believe I had never heard of that area before I went!. I spoke with a hiker who has been going there for years and he told me that to catch the wild flowers in their peak, the best time to go is early July. Makes sense with the high altitude. It was still great just as it was in late August without the full bloom going on. Highly recommend it.

In those high terrain, wild flowers bloom in June-July.

Yeah, I went through there this year late June and there was still a bunch of snow. Regular snow years June is probably a good bet to see them.

Thanks for all the great videos. This looks like a great hike I will be in the Tahoe area next week. Is everything closed due to fires? I really want to do some hiking and fishing.

That is a great short hike and I highly recommend it. A guy I met on the trail who goes there a lot told me that the wildflowers are everywhere on that trail in July so keep that on the mental list for future consideration!
From what I have read and understand, all National Forests in California and the Tahoe Basin area are closed through Monday the 21st due to fire danger. This was a week extension on the forest closure that ended last week. I am hoping they lift it because I want to go hiking and fishing around there later next week. I'm not sure if the closure pertains to me simply pulling off the highway and fishing but I might find out if the closures are extended!
If you haven't watched them and are interested, I have clips up for a a few hikes in the Tahoe area ranging from 1-5 miles (Eagle Lake, Velma Lakes, Dick's Lake) Hopefully they will lift the closures and you can have a great time cruising around in the wilderness. Good luck!

Try: muh-call-uh-me. Beautiful area...been there many times years ago with students during the summer. Great wildflower displays too. Nice to hear how much you appreciated the area.

I enjoyed watching this hike. How long did it take you?

It was quick because there isn't much uphill. Mostly up and down. I was there in about an hour and 15 min I believe. I was only hauling a day pack though and it was early in the morning. A little bit later of a start with overnight gear might take a bit longer. If you can catch that lake without heavy wind, the Brook Trout fishing should be good. Getting around the shore for more than half the lake is fairly easy on a well defined trail and there are plenty of good spots for fly casting. There is a good trail to the back to where those islands were. get away from the water's edge and follow the path high up and through the rocks and you can drop right down back there. Looks like a cool area to swim if it's hot and there were no people back there. It's well worth spending a day or days there.

If I'm fishing remote national forest areas with road access I usually have access to my firearm. Especially during growing season. The only animal I am afraid of are humans! Especially if they are connected to gangs who would rather you die than give up the location of their illegal grows.

Whats the most random fish you’ve caught in these lakes/rivers? And which lake/river would you say has the most species based on your experience/what you’ve caught? I live near Reno so just curious, either way, your videos are very enjoyable and informative, great stuff!

Hey, thanks. The ultimate goal I guess is to hit a "grand slam" body of water where you can catch a brook, brown, rainbow, and golden in one trip or day. I have never achieved that. I've hit a brown, brook, and rainbow on one body of water but that's the closest I've come. I guess that's a triple! The most random fish that surprised me was I caught a largemouth bass way up in the kings river years ago on a spoon. I guess they are in there but i was a bit surprised to run into that thing in a pool between sets of rapids.
I will get around to fishing in Nevada waters eventually. So little time with so much to do!

Yes. I use a GoPro Hero 5 black. Thing has been great for me. Easy to use which is good for a technology challenged guy like me!
