God bless The Great Bobby Allison! No one has given more to racing than Bobby & Judy Allison, or I guess racing has taken more from them than anyone else, whichever way ya wanna put it 🙏🥺 I'm a huge Petty fan, but I've got just as much RESPECT for the leader of The Alabama gang! 💪😑👍
This was my first race ever and it neat to be able to go back and watch it. Because as a five-year-old at the time I only remember being hot and Harry Gant winning.
The 1992 Champion Spark Plug 400 at the Michigan International Speedway was the site for Harry Gant's 18th and final Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Win by becoming the oldest winner at the age of 52 years alongside Oldsmobile's last NASCAR Victory. The most important race of the 12th Year of NASCAR Racing on Philippine Television was produced by SilverStar Communications, Inc. and aired on August 17, 1992 via tape delay on the GMA Rainbow Satellite Television Network at 2:30 P.M. right after Goodyear NASCAR Today with Rico Hizon and Bobby Guanzon
Dale suffered no tragedies in the 90's, infact, he benefited greatly from other's tragedies, Davey-AK-Tim Richmond, all would have taken race wins & Championships from Dale Sr.
Track record back then was just only over 178 MPH, today that wouldn't even meet minimum speed! Fast forward 25 years later, the track record is now over 206 MPH by Jeff Gordon, a full 28 MPH faster! The first driver to win the Pole with an average speed of over 190 MPH was Dale Earnhardt Jr. in August 2002. Ryan Newman then eclipsed the record with a lap of over 194 MPH, and Marcos Ambrose was the first driver to qualify with a lap over 200 MPH with a lap at 203 MPH in June 2012. In 2012 though the fact the track had been repaved during the off season played a factor with an insane amount of grip despite a tire with a hard compound.
Yeah, but the racing back then was just as exciting & maybe more so. The younger crowd just don't seam to understand that back then the driver's couldn't push the cars 💯 all the time. They had to conserve the engine & the tires + the cars were more difficult to drive ect... It was much more a driver's race back then than now.

3:16 Er, Brett Farve after his father died? Michael Schumacher after his mother died? Schumi won a race the day after his mother died. There are probably other athletes that I am not thinking of or I am dismissing that perfomed at a high level after losing a family member. I am sorry, but that seems incredibly ignorant on your part, Dr. Punch.
Wow Randy, that's the first bad comment I've seen you make! 😲 Besides bud, Shue & them didn't have a damn thing to do with NASCAR, while The Allison's are firmly entrenched in NASCAR lore.
Benny Parsons was the John Madden of NASCAR commentary
Must be heartbreaking for Bobby Allison for him to lose both of his sons in just about a year's time....

First NASCAR race I ever went to!
Early in the race yet another spin/crash caused by a Bodine. This time though what Brett caused took out his own brother.

Benny was never any better than he was this day.
Now, why isn't Harry Gant in the NASCAR H.O.F.? It's a shame.
