The advantage Dustin has is that he already fought Khabib, he already felt they're wrestling. But the Dagestani boys have wrestling as their autopilot. Dustin’s counter punching “rhythm” is his greatest asset.
Islams “strength” is the problem.
You can figure out defensive stand up or defensive submissions, you can’t figure out strength.
If Islam gets the fight to the ground it’s over quickly imo because of pure strength, just like the Khabib fight.
Dustin will need to have an exceptional night, and that’s what makes this fight fun.

dustin's boxing would not even be considered elite in actual boxing. he would be average to middling. no head or waist movement and very stiff, which is i guess why he went the mma route. it's the same with conor, who his fans thought had elite boxing, only to be carried and made into a punching bag by an old semi-retired mayweather who just walked to him feeling zero threat which mayweather never did against actual elite boxers.

If (when) Makhachev shoots for the single leg, his head on the center, Poirier won't have any option to defend. It'll look like the Dober fight. I don't see Makhachev taking any risks. The stakes are too high; defending the belt in a main event, on a PPV card, on the biggest stage, fighting in america for the first time since february of 2022, against a fan favorite.
