@lwkee no if you read what i said correctly i said that team sports are totally different. The training you get with a soccer team revolves around the particular teammates you have, if you switch teammates that training's usefulness drops significantly. Its why the USA bball team has lost in the past even though their individual talent is so far better than any other countries.
scylla24 We cannot say that it is a stupid policy. You have to understand that China has a huge population. Every national player wanted to have a chance to play in the world championship. Only the best will represent China. Countries such as Singapore and many other countries do gave them an opportunity to be a champion. Therefore there is nothing wrong about their policy. It's a natural process. The girls have worked very hard to achieve this championship and we congratulate them.
@jinki For the entire past decade, the head coach for the singapore team was Liu Guoliang's brother..... as in the brother of the head coach of the Chinese national team. All their training whether done actually in China or not is based on the Chinese method.
@MsDoeryn I never said anything about scolding them, if they didn't make the Chinese team, then yeah go ahead and find other opportunities. But the fact that they do, does nothing to contradict my original statement that these players are capable of reaching that level primarily because of Chinese training. I said before and I say it again, Singapore deserved their victory. My original statement was aimed at China.
@syclla24. This is sports. This is not a war. Even with the best training, one cannot guarantee a win. It is also the mental component of the sport that also count. Like what iceDUDETTE said, show some sportsmanship...
@jinki oh it is ok to send a coach to another place, but it is entirely different to have their players come to China and train and learn directly. Those coaches who do go to other countries go there because they can't make it to the top in China, same with several other ethnically Chinese players who play for other countries, they cant make it to the top and thus go to other countries.
@scylla24 if you look at some of other countries' head coach, they are also chinese. So you are saying we should have some home grown table tennis coach. I wonder have you look at other sports closely? England soccer team head coach is now capello, prev was eriksson. Were they english? The world is integrated as a whole, you engaged the person based on merits, not on demographics. I am from an european bank and my whole IT department consists of mostly indian nationals. You get the picture?
@scylla24 Singapore team has been sparring in other countries not only china more than 10 years ago. Not only singapore, other countries are doing it. To understand other countries playing style. Those top players have played with each other countless time. The main reason why china lost, is because they changed their players so fast. Every time, this young star rise from the team, the next olympic she is gone.
@veritascicero oh I mean my point is not to take away their shine whatsoever. I make no mention of saying they didn't deserve it or anything. My primary point was to point out China's bad decision making
@jinki i don't even understand why you are arguing with me that much, clearly you love your own country of singapore, and are very patriotic, so then put yourself in my position. If there was one sport that Singapore dominated at, and if they chose not to help others they would continue to dominate, would you really want Singapore to start training players from other countries so that after they are trained they return to their countries and then beat singapore? NO!
@jinki they may spar a little with other countries, but they predominately train in China. China doesn't need to spar with others to learn their playing style if they can just have their B team learn that style. China has so many people and talent that they can do that. Your reason as to why China lost doesn't make sense. China has been doing that for decades now, yet they lost now for the first time in 2 decades? the fast switch is not the problem otherwise it would have been a long time ago
@jinki Yeah there are international friendlies, but when they aren't going, non Chinese players are still there training. Yes they are training WITH Chinese players, but guess who is training all of them together? still Chinese coaches. Look at some of bio videos of Ai Fukahara, she basically lives in China.
@jinki yeah I know. Which if you read my other comment I am not trying to put down Singapore specifically, or at all. I am complaining about China's policy. China allows tons of other countries' players to train within China. Hell Singaporean, Hong Kong, and Taiwanese players almost train exclusively in China. I never said the singaporean players didn't deserve respect, where the hell are you pulling that from.
@jinki yeah it is a sore loser, if you complain that you lost, however as I said before i am not complaining that singapore won, or even really that China lost, I am simply pointing out a Chinese policy that I think makes no sense.
@jj3089 yeah I know, whats your point? My argument was that China should not allow other countries' players to train so much in China, and if anything your statement proves my point. If you train either singaporean players too much, or let your own dropouts who decide to represent other countries train too much, then they will beat you. Which goes against the whole point of having a sport team
@MsDoeryn except a major part of my whole argument is that they don't learn the majority of their skills in Singapore, but go to China for training.... It isn't war? no shit, I specifically said war was an example, and a hell of a lot better one than your study abroad example. If anything even though sports is obviously less important than war, sports follows even closer to a zero sum game.
@jinki well its a fact that the government and only the government provides the funding for atheltics in China. And therefore if singaporean players play in China and train there, along with players from other countries, then yes, China is spending money on training players that aren't even Chinese. Maybe not millions but they still are spending some money
@scylla24 I mention train WITH china players. You know international friendlies. What you meant was china train our players. You mention secret training provided by china to us. Please provide your source, where did you come up with this idea? China benefited as well, by sparring with international opponents. Why do you think they allowed us to do "international friendly?"
Why are we wasting our time arguing about this? Come on and celebrate! Man feels good to triumph! That's an extra pint for me this weekend! If I had an a group of Italians naturalised singaporeans playing for singapore at the world cup I'll call them singaporeans too. It's not the skin color you belong to or where you came from, its the flag you wear in front(back) of you that matters. Quoted from "goal 1". wooot!
@MsDoeryn yeah except thats a globalization that occurs both ways, and helps both countries, it isn't a zero sub game. You aren't training for the sake of a particular competition. Plus, if I stated that I was gonna go to all of the US's best schools, learn all their military secrets and then go back and represent China, you can bet sure as hell they would kick my ass out of those schools or whatever
@iceDUDETTE I am not taking anything away from Singapore, they deserve it. It has nothing to do with bad sportsmanship. My point was to say China has a stupid policy. My purpose was not to bash Singapore in anyway.
@MsDoeryn and like I said coming to the US for an education, frankly I was little and had no choice, but anyway, like I said getting an education here is not the same analogy as the table tennis situation. In an education, the countries are not competing with each other in such a clear zero sub game. My example of military secrets is much more apt. That is closer to a zero sum game, and thus if I made it my clear intention that anything I learned I would bring back to China, the US
I wonder why she get penalized for that chop too :( I really love her chopping when she wants to make a get back... there's so much spin to that chopping serve!!
@MsDoeryn And your entire comment didn't even really respond to my last comment.... I mean seriously, you basically just reworded what I have been saying this whole time with your last comment. And as to denying my country's education system and quality? what is that supposed to mean?
@jinki and even if you did, clearly its not working because the cost of learning their styles is losing the championship. The Chinese womens team hasn't lost the team championship in like 2 decades. Why now? if its because of the strategy you are talking about, then its a shitty one.
@jinki wtf.... ok give me your "source" then that they don't train in china. Yeah I know who Deng Yaping is, ok so Deng Yaping played for a while, zhang yining played for a while, and now they switch to a new generation and you call that a fast switch....
@EmperorFives yes it is a sport, but it still is a competition, how many other countries do this? To allow another country's player to train their entire life in China and then represent their own country? For example, if you want to train in the US for Olympic level sports, you have to switch to US citizenship, and promise to represent the US. I am not taking anything away from Singapore, they deserve it. It has nothing to do with bad sportsmanship. My point was to say China has a stupid policy
@scylla24 Let me remind you once again. Besides singapore, there are many other countries which train with china top players. Singapore learn from china just like other countries on table tennis, and won! I believe they deserve that bit of respect! They edge out base on merits. And yes, feng is a china drop out, but sg provided them with the training and support for them to suceed. In other words, your so called garbage pwned your players.
@jinki its none of your business? you asked for an example! do I reckon the Chinese team teaches her? yes duh! why else would she be there, why else would she speak perfect Chinese? I am not assuming that China is dumb, I am stating that to allow people like Ai Fukahara to train in China you are basically training other countries on how to beat you. You can learn other people's playing styles perfectly fine without having to train them....
@scylla24 You assumed this strategy is a shitty one? which has won them the past 17 championship? By training with others, then you can keep yourself prepared. There is a saying. Understand your foe, then you will win the war. China has been doing that. Just because right now they lost? you take the credit away from the singapore team and say is because of china shitty policy? You are assuming China uses their own coach to train her, just because she is staying there?
This dinkyass singapore whoop the Chinese Dragons ass. If you brought it to dreamworks I'm pretty sure it would make a good story line. It's called outsourcing and if you win then your return of investment is well worth it. Think business not sports and welcome to Singapore. So proud of the girls! Go Singapore! Btw every other country is doing it and through them the country gets recognized at the same level playing field with the rest of the world. And to quote "no publicity is bad publicity".
@scylla24 Singapore team do not stayed in China!! You obviously do not know anything.. The fast switch?Try goggling Deng yaping. She was there long and invincible. Your reason on china using taxpayers money to train our players doesn't makes any sense either? I don't find any information onine that says chinese govt paid millions to train singapore players.. Maybe you have that link. Please post here. thanks!
u kidding me... IT was awesome game but lol how did ding lose so much point every game, she was so much in lead every game, then the next shot, its tied ?!?
@scylla24 You again!? You keep spoiling everything! Anyway Feng Tianwei deserved that victory. Her father literally worked himself to death just so she could be here today. @vid 3:37 So it's true Feng now uses Ebenholz. What is that red stripped blade? Stiga Hyprid?
@scylla24 Ai fukahara lives in china is non of my business. You reckon the china team teaches her? come on! I am sure the china team benefited as well from sparring with her. You are assuming china is dumb! By sparring with different countries playing style, they know how to counter it. They have the B team players in China just imitating those players style just to train with their A team. Why do you think they have won the past championship? by keeping themselves up to date with the others!
@halfull88 ok, so why don't you make some arguments to why i revealed my stupidity, instead of only claiming that I have. Critique a person's argument, not the person, first rule of debate. And as for which dinky ass country I come from, I was born in China, and I live in the US. And like I said before i am not complaining that singapore won, or even really that China lost, I am simply pointing out a Chinese policy that I think makes no sense.
@jinki ummm clearly its starting to be a shitty one. If China hasn't lost in 2 decades, but now have finally lost one, someone changed, and what is that change? they are increasingly allowing other countries to train in China. Its basic logic, 2 decades ago, China didn't allow other countries to train in China, therefore they won the championship every year, now they have started to allow it, and then suddenly lose? hmm why?

Yeah and I never tire of watching it. Way to go!!!
@lwkee no if you read what i said correctly i said that team sports are totally different. @skyking166 no, the uploader had to cut some parts, because the whole match is very long, he just showed the interesting points.
scylla24 We cannot say that it is a stupid policy. You have to understand that China has a huge population. Every national player wanted to have a chance to play in the world championship. wonderful match with wonderful rallies
Yes !!! Feng Tian Wei WON

she won feng tian wei this year!!!
:O
Best player feng!!! Ding Ning must be real shock but delighted. Haha!!

Wasn't ding Ning penalised for doing that serve? Why was she penalised in London but not here? Curious.
@scylla24 if you look at some of other countries' head coach, they are also chinese. So you are saying we should have some home grown table tennis coach. @Re1Mu2R3 haha sorry again. He might have, but almost all the training she got was either directly or indirectly from the Chinese national team.
They move so quick!!!! :O
@veritascicero oh I mean my point is not to take away their shine whatsoever. I make no mention of saying they didn't deserve it or anything. My primary point was to point out China's bad decision making
@Re1Mu2R3 P.S. sorry again, but look on the bright side, you can't spoil something that's already spoiled right? : P
@jinki i don't even understand why you are arguing with me that much, clearly you love your own country of singapore, and are very patriotic, so then put yourself in my position. How does ding ning server lyk that? Seems damn funny yet immensely difficult. So much spin to go to the other side
@jinki Yeah there are international friendlies, but when they aren't going, non Chinese players are still there training.
