- This is one BIG car! Impressive new style for Lincoln who had to settle for a warmed over car in 1955 when all the rest of Detroit was coming out with brand new models. It was worth the wait, though..wrap around windshield, beautiful new colors and color keyed upholstery and a trunk that would swallow any reasonalble amount of baggage!

Everytime I see a 56 Lincoln I go back to my university days when I traded my 50 Merc in for a 56 Lincoln Premiere. It was four years old but like brand new. Even then Lincoln didn't hold resale value like Caddys, but anyone not owning a Lincoln over a Caddy was truly missing out. One unique feature was an automatic greasing system. A small grease can under the hood with lines going to all the grease points did the nod with just a push of a button on the dash. It was an amazing road car. Racked up many miles in comfort and style the three years I owned in trading it in on a 59 Lincoln soon after I graduated in 1962. You do a great job Jack, thanks for all your effort in bringing us a front row seat of the classics.
Absolutely breath-taking, Jack! Thank you.
Hey, Roger! It sure is breath-taking! Thanks! :) Jack
Absolutely gorgeous! Lincoln really nailed the styling in '56!
I didn't nail my search tonight, though. I meant to type in 1955 but put 1956 in instead. I've got a long ways to go before i'm out of your 1955 car videos!
That said, if one is to make a mistake, this is a good car to land on as a result :)
The pressure was really on at Lincoln to come up with a newly styled car, the rest of the auto world had done that the year before. They "met expectations" as one would say in a personnel review! Thanks! :) Jack
Yes, 1955 was a banner year indeed, and car enthusiasts to this day celebrate it by collecting 1955 models! Thanks! :) Jack
Jack, that is a looker.. very nice! Thanks
zzzdogutube Hey, Ron! it sure is a looker! Thanks! :) Jack
Jack, what I wouldn't do to have a old Lincoln like this or a old Packard. ! I am in love with the Early 50s Packards.. would so enjoy owning one in good condition. but you gotta have cash to do so, and I am not in that league.. But I can dream.
Hey, Jesse! There definitely is a lot of attraction of old cars like this for me. The only way it really makes sense, though, is to find one that's already been restored. And as you say, that usually means high dollars...but we can dream! Thanks! :) Jack
Stunning result worthy of the effort this automaker invested! You definitely won't see THIS again.
So true..every detail is as good as new, or better. That's when designers designed an entire car...it all goes together! Thanks! :) Jack
Lincoln got it exactly right with their 56 and 57 models. I wonder what would have happened in 55 if they kept the same body design, but only given it a wrap around windshield? Always liked the 52 to 54 models and even though the 55 was just a lengthened version of these the proportions looked odd (only my opinion). Re-doing all the shiny bits on a car of this size must have cost a pretty penny. Sure is a sweet example. :)
cheddyrod Hey, Chester! That's an interesting question! I suspect that since the competition was pretty much doing a complete redo of their lines in '55, anything less than a complete redo would seem to be non-competitive. In a way, things back then were simpler...there were crash tests, but not like they are today. Big money could be spent, but safety seemed more of an afterthought than style...how times have changed! Thanks! :) Jack
nice star ship
Hey, Alberto! I think it qualifies as a star ship! Thanks! :) Jack
nice Lincoln, and not many convertibles around anymore. I like the 56 but prefer the lines of the 55 best. The 57 is a interesting car too, to me it was very un Lincoln.
I have a friend that just bought his wife a new 2015 MKZ and a another Buddy that just ordered a new Black Label MKZ, his might wind up being a 2016 as the cut off for 2015 orders just happened, ( its a reorder due to a mistake the dealer made, they ordered the wrong engine)
califdad4 Hey, Brian! For me, this '56 is the best of the 3. I'm glad your friends are ordering Lincolns...they need to sell cars! I wish them the best..but they really have to have their own identity separate from Ford, in my opinion. That said, there can be no excuse for ordering the wrong engine...your friend was generous in giving them a second chance. Thanks! :) Jack
You not kidding, I told him to go buy a ATS!
they ordered it with the turbo 4 and he wanted the 3.7 V6
Jack R Jack...did you see the pics of the future Lincoln Continental that may come out end of next year?
califdad4 Hey, Brian! Yes, I have seen the pics. I don't think it's universally praised..in fact, I think it's almost universal condemnation! Too big, too excessive and I have to believe, too expensive, although they haven't given a hint of the asking price. Thanks! :) Jack
The Press seems to be very interested in it, I think it and exciting move to bring back the Lincoln Continental in something new not a borrowed style from yesteryear
