One of the most interesting flights I’ve seen, with two go arounds handled so professionally.
Great video displaying very good crm. I'm only 81 but when I grow up, I want to fly the Dash!
What an outstanding flight video! Thank you.
I used to think golf was the best TV for napping. These long flight videos are much better, they remind me of the flights we took when I was a kid. The sound of the Constellation props always put me to sleep.
That is stressful flying for sure and probably very exhausting - very professional team that maintained a steady aircraft and safe conclusion in difficult conditions - Excellent job 👍🥃
Steve Smith
👍
Excellent flight crew. Co-pilot's flight control adjustments are fluid and artistic! Pilot's explanations to viewers are very clear. Nice video - thanks.
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it!
The first officer was the pilot flying, the captain was the pilot monitoring. Excellent job!
I suppose Air Greenland has such an outstanding livery because white planes would disappear against the snowy backgrounds. "Hey, where did that Dash-8 park?"... "I dunno man, it blended in with the snow". Looking forward to this video :)
That makes perfect sense and I'm sure you are correct!
@@justplanes really pretty color on these.....
or maybe easy to find if they crash in the snow - it does happen!
I cannot believe how calm they are. Perfection!! And they are indeed a 10 out of 10 crew. Bravo!!
Thanks for the comment Patrick!
They behaved when camera's were in the cockpit? No way! :P
Great go-around from the go-around experts lol. A great crew thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you👍
wooow, the best video ever. Not so easy to flight in Greenland. Also I like , finally some video of hmm little smaller airplane. I do appreciate Your work and the way the captain explain everything. Hopefully you are not a couple because i little fall in love with the copilot, 1st officer. . God bless and stay healthy. You are both amazing and thank You for let me be with You on your flight. take care and peaceful and safe flights. Thank You Both!!!
Thanks very much Gunnar and glad you enjoyed this video and the smaller airplane. We enjoy them as well
That was incredible.
I know nothing about aircraft apart from them having 2 wings, wheels, engines, a cabin and a cockpit.
The Captain and his female copilot in this particular cockpit awakened my awareness of what true professionalism is.
The amount of technology that the modern day pilots live with is, to me, bewildering.
This crew handled their challenges with confidence, calmness and even humour.
I have total respect for pilots. 👍
Nice job crew. Don’t forget your neighbour’s in Canada are covered with NDB appr. also.
Very true.. Canada is still a real/wonderful place for aviation and we LOVE filming airlines in Canada!
NDB??? I haven’t shot an NDB approach in years. As a matter of fact my airplane, 787, doesn’t even have any selection for NDB.
@@bullwinklejmoos Small, turboprop airplanes often have to fly into small airports at high latitudes where NDB is the only way in. To date, no civilian airport in Greenland has ILS, so even the A330 has to come in on NDB/GPS. They’re working on modernizing many airports in Greenland and ILS is going to be added to some of them (Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq.)
@@afcgeo882 I was being facetious. I know there are places where NDB plays a role, but quite a few countries have decommissioned their NDB approaches and I don’t think that student pilots are being taught how to shoot one. But even the NDB/GPS approach on the A330 is not a real NDB approach because you are using GPS positioning to fly what is in the Nav database. The approach being flown by the Dash8 would however represent the original NDB style approach. Wouldn’t it be more economical though for Greenland to implement RNP/AR approaches instead of going with ILS?
@@bullwinklejmoos RNP AR approaches would be too difficult in Greenland because of constant mountains, cliffs and other obstacles. It’s typical there to do a steep approach using NDB and GPS (they did use both here) and then land visually, under the low cloud cover.
Very professional flight crew! Excellent FO with great situational awareness!! Well done!
Awesome and thank you for the lovely comment Michael!
@@justplanes its my pleasure! I used to be a Flight Attendant on a Jestream 41 and The CRJ200. I know how much "fun" it can be with multiple go-arounds. It takes a special pilot to fly the smaller aircraft, and quite frankly, these 2 have great camaraderie and chemistry as a team. Keep it up and safe travels. 😎🙏👍
Interesting to hear the gear in transit call followed by up. Old school RAF SOP. personally always felt a much better sequence that just `Gear Up. Great video
What a great opportunity to observe these pilots operate in harsh conditions.
Yes indeed. We would have loved a flight into Sisimiut but we happily took this unusual circumstance for us anyway... the pilots over there probably get more of that in winter.
Aug 2019 on flight from KEF to Ilulissat we had 2 misses due to fog and wound up in Kangerlussuaq at 2:30 am. It was still light out, of course. Next early morning back to Ilulissat, 1 miss, a hold and then landed. Four cancelled trips back to Greenland since then due to covid. Hope to return asap.
Agent 47 is a flight captain for this mission. Trust me, this must be him!🤪🤣
👍
Omg!! Nerves of steel... great job air Greenland crew.. the female pilot is beautiful 😁
Great CRM going on there. A nice professional day at work.
Couldn't agree more!
If a Dash can't land you know it's VERY BAD.
ahahahaha yes 👍
At Delta Airlines in Detroit (KDTW) 'everybody needing to get loaded and taking off all at once' is a quaint tradition known as 'flushing the fleet.' :-D)
I am also impressed and gratified to witness crew resource management. With both pilot flying and pilot monitoring having hands on the throttles at takeoff speaks volumes about the flight crew. Congratulations to the airline for your training and to the skill and professionalism of both pilots on this flight. The 'geese' flying behind you can fly in comfort.
As a dane, it's fun to hear the cockpit-conversations in danish :D
Very nice video!!! :)
Most Greenland pilots are Danes. Although there was a polite, well spoken British guy on the radio of one of the Air Greenland planes, near the start.
And as usual, the only airline also, the chime is at 100dB! 😁
Very professional. May have had a cheaper and more successful outcome with some huskies and dog sleds. Some climates and hi tech air travel don't mix.
:) Glad you enjoyed the video!
I've flown Air Greenland, their pilots are like some of the South American Pilots. They're used to flying in the most extreme conditions.
I flew in to Nuuk via Iceland with a Dash 8.
Great video ! Very nice crew coordination. The Dash 8 is an absolutely fantastic plane to fly, and this 200 is the only variant I haven't flown. It's a 100 with the same engines as the larger 300 and great for short runways...lots of fun :) This is the first time I have seen the Universal Avionics upgraded flight displays ! I wish they were around when I was on the Dash - I prefer the Universal FMS and displays to what we have on the 737. Much more user friendly and ergonomic. Flying in the Caribbean is very similar to what these guys are doing (except for the winter weather conditions of course). At least 5 destinations we had were only NDB approaches and were flown conventionally without FMS.
Thanks for this video...it reminds me how much I really love the Dash 8 :)
Thanks very much Steven! Glad you enjoyed the video and agree on the Dash 8!
Have you flown the Fokker 50 (F50)?
@@AbsolutelyEverybody1 I haven't flown the Fokker, only have friends who did.
Awesome video
Thank you very much!!
Great video! 7-8 go-arounds per day. That you could see. It was performed so nice and smooth that it was a joy to see. The crm was just as smooth. The female ATC must be from Norway. Lol!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you very much Torgeir!
Such a beautiful bird...😍
Sure is!
How frustrating for them with thise go arounds, but they must be used to such harsh conditions. Shame there wasn't any subtitles as I had problems understanding their comments, but was a great watch otherwise. Can anyone tell me what reg number was on that Titan aircraft on the stand to their left of them at around 10 mins in, please? Titan have their base and fly out from Stansted Essex in the UK and the most local airport to me. Thanking you in advance 🙂 xx
EXTRAORDINARIO VIDEO!! Saludos desde Argentina
The best turbo-prop ever... very capable in both the tropics and temperate regions ❤
When the Nuuk new airport opens would landing be possible under these similar conditions in Nuuk ?
Pure Proˋs👌
Smukt job🙂
Tak Air Greenland for turen til Thule via Upernavik!
Thank you Air Greenland for the trip to Thule via Upernavik I had with You!
Wow stunning poilets bid different to flying a 177b
Fantastic flight crew! Cheers for the experience.
Glad you enjoyed it!👍
Beautiful plane amazing pilots ..absolutely brilliant video thanku so much love an god bless x
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it Wendy, thank you!
@@justplanes my pleasure have a great weekend much love an god bless x
11:33 I think the FO said bleeds ON and MIN. I guess different operators have different procedures? We normally go BLEEDS MIN-OFF.
I'm sure different airlines operate differently... maybe has to do with the climate there.
I fly Dash 8 in Canada where the climate is very much like that of Greenland’s, so found that interesting 😃
Great video, great teamwork! Safe and sound!
Although i didn't understand due language, ultimate respect.
First time on this Channel and To you Captain and the First Officer
Gotta be faster on that Go Around, lost too much time to confirm go around and full power.
Go around was the best decide, but they landed with minimum fuel.
An NDB approach for an airline operation? Wow, it would be rare indeed to see that today here in the US. Surprised they don't have an RNAV approach by now, since there is no ground equipment required. Even without WAAS, it would be more precise than an NDB.
I guess one has to be a good pilot to fly in Greenland?
Sisimiut BGSS does have RNAV GNSS approach as well😎🇬🇱
At 48:43 he is explaining the RNAV Approach.
But I guess you can't rely too much on GPS reception near the polar regions either, especially in bad weather conditions?
Can’t even remember when I had to shoot an NDB approach. It was probably so long ago that I still had hair.
There's a whole world outside the US of A. Who knew? Every video of this nature, there's always an American in the comments, along the lines of "Oh wow, you didn't have this and that, we have all that and more in the US". You guys seem disinterested in the world outside of the Lower 48.
JP Hello! Great vid.....teamwork in the cockpit....Chapeau!
Thanks for posting JP;)) Safe filming and until the next vid!
Warm greetings.....Betsy.
Thanks 👍 Betsy for always checking out our new videos... See you on Saturday!
@@justplanes ....with pleasure JP!...Yes..until Saturday;)) Betsy.
where were they flying to,I didn`t understand?
Kangerlussuaq to Sisimiut however after 2 Go-arounds in Sisimiut due to poor visibility the aircraft returned to Kangerlussuaq.
Ah thanks. I saw the Destination BGSS somwhere on the instruments, but I thought they had arrived from much further away.
But of course 71 NM is also a lot if you want to calculate weight and fuel economically, there are not many reserves to fiddle around with for too long.
Excellent & professional!!
Which type of aircraft is ?
Dash 8-200
@@justplanes thanks , with new cockpit
Wonder what that Titan plane is doing there? Flew on that plane STN-ALC on a sub for Jet2
Air Greenland had rented it in for 2-3 days to operate their Copenhagen route while their Airbus A330 was in maintenance. Our photographer actually positioned on it.
@@justplanes Thanks for the reply! Titan are getting an A330 which I understand is or has replaced the 767.
Just Curious....
1. For how long can the Engine Torque be left in the Cautionary range (Yellow Range)?
2. Why pull back on the Props before reducing Power to the Engine ?
Take care of your Donkeys guys ... it may be a long walk back home in the snow if they quit on you.
Salute and Thank u guys for making our flights a safe flight
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Once when doing touch-n-goes in 172 at KCOS, I had a 737 coming in behind me so was cleared for a low approach. When I pushed in the throttle, the engine sputtered and died! I told tower I had lost engine and landed with no power. I was unable to totally clear the runway. I heard tower say go-around and all I thought of was "I can't go-around my engine died." Then I heard a very loud noise, as the 737's engines spooled up and they did a go-around. I was able to restart engine and clear the runway.
I am very proud of my accomplishment! How many people can say they made a 737 do a go-around?
I love watching videos which such professionalism! I try to incorporate as much professionalism even though I am only a Private Pilot in a small aircraft into my flying.
You are really "flying the plane" in a twin-prop. I have been a passenger in one, and you really know you're flying, compared with wide-bodied jets!
I had four landings aborted during a long monsoon storm in India. Just as the undercarriage was touching tarmac there would be massive waterfalls that blurred the ground.
I'm convinced that I was saved by the high speed of the jet aircraft and the relatively dry asphalt that prevented hydroplaning.
And most of all it was the Pilot of course. He was a Bengali Wizard.
What was the weather conditions at the airport of time of approach to minimums and go missed? Great flying by the FO
Nice video and nice to observe the fuel considerations on next attempts and return flight. I wonder how the last Icelandic flight went that got clear in the air to different waypoint than as filed (cleared to 67N40W instead of 67N50W or 68N40W as filed) with different flight plan. :)
The callouts are perfect and asked for high intensity lights at 100%
What a difference between Greenland and Iceland. Greenland just covered with snow while Iceland is partially covered and warmer. Gulf Stream does not cross Atlantic around Greenland but does in Iceland producing more moderate temps
Pilot said the cockpit was warm that’s the only place it’s warm in Greenland
I'm waiting for this
Enjoy the video and thanks for watching our channel!
This beats driving in NY traffic which I do all the time.
Thank you for Briefing your procedures on your next steps
really interesting, amazing to watch..These pilots there are really hero..
Where do the pilots stay? What town or do they rotate through from Denmark?
Love it! NDB app killed me with IFR trainimg
Perfect I always say would i want my family on flight or controlling
👍:)
Glad you enjoyed it
Great, ''Time will tell''...''There's no runway up here''..
Really fascinating vid . What a pair of professionals . Hat off to them
I like the gold sticker on bose A20!!! made the same thing!
Professional Pilots
Super video so keep it up
Thank you and we will certainly do our best!

A very nice video,☺️☺️😊😊
Thanks a lot 😊
Are automated systems being developed that can land planes autonomously in poor visibility and will we trust them? 🤔 I prefer a human at the controls 😊 👍🏽
Some airports have that capability but they're generally large airports that get a lot of flights and the aircraft and pilots also need to be full autoland ready and qualified, at an airport as small as this one I doubt the investment would be worth it.
Not white.MINNESOTA LAND BANK.
Air Greenland I would love to see more of this
That was very interesting, thanks.
Who is this captain?
He presented himself with his first name "Thomas". Due to his accent when speaking English he clearly is a Dane!
ab maza aa yega na re bhidu!!!!!!
Hello
Me: *Sits & Waites*
Enjoy the video!
I'm sure Greenland is going to add WAAS and vertical guidance to its GPS approaches. That flight would have made it in with that capability., since the MDA will be much lower.
Greenland is a Danish independent territory and is like to adopt EGNOS. According to Wikipedia, EGNOS cost €1,1 billion to develop.
If all you got is a NDB approach, no reason to go there. An air carrier should have at minimum GPS approach procedures at all destinations points.
if you have 2 altns you can even fly to non-ifr arpt
Beautiful plane and professional crew. Another great video! Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
Its like yall guys flying in to no wear wow
I think is was funny when you said it was cold 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶 it never gets cold not much. If I was in those temp's I would be froze up. May wife & I have been over Greenland at fl 270 .🤗☺️😊😁💕💕❤️
😁
"No traffic on the runway" It's just baffling how complicated it can be made to be for AFIS.
Yes
terriblement bandant le commandant de bord !!!!
Awesome CRM , Captain was steady and smooth as butter. Wonderful vid!
Glad you enjoyed the video
this gonna very interesting as i am new in this channel just 1 month old?.........i have surf this channel videos but i am first see dash 8 which is fab and on snow with air greenland....and title rolling twice go around...goona be good...

....I think...this is going to be a fascinathing vid JP! I'II be there!..Betsy.
Ya it was an interesting flight for sure... and I think one of the only times in 30 years of filming we didn't make it to our destination and had 2 Go-Arounds... Enjoy!

I bet the passengers loved this. A long delay in the air and then ended up back where they started.
Better than being a fatal statistic!
That’s Greenland. We call the airlines “Immaqa Airlines” which translates to Maybe Airlines
