Brian Molko : I was living in New York, thinking about moving there instead of living somewhere in France where I had been living and where I was feeling very down. I don't talk a lot of my private life, but it's very well known and very 'public domain' that I was in a relationship during that time but it didn't work. We really needed to take some time off. So I was in that big city and didn't know anybody. I lost my home, my family and I fell into a very deep depression. We had decided not to talk to each other but I couldn't bear it anymore. I remember I picked up a phone in some phonebooth in Broadway and called this person and said "see, I know I'm not supposed to be calling you right now, but I really need to talk to you". The song is part of the conversation we had over the phone, there's a lot of guilt in that song. Blind, included in Meds, is a somewhat alike song. The end of a relationship is kind like death. You have a life with someone and just suddendly, everything stops. The saddest part is that the world goes on and people go on minding their own business, without knowing the paint you feel. It's very interesting for an author to write about that. If this isn't touching I don't know what is
I remember my first experience with someone dying, and my biggest shock was also how the world kept carrying on, after that I realized we are all just passing through time
shit I used to listen to placebo so much a few years ago, and now I feel this wave of old emotions and memories hitting me.. crazy how some songs can keep pieces of you forever in them
Reminds me of this great piece of lyricism by Pink Floyd: "So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older, Shorter of breath and one day closer to death."
I know, you love the song but not the singer I know, you've got me wrapped around your finger I know, you want the sin without the sinner I know, I know I know, the past will catch you up as you run faster I know, the last in line is always called a bastard I know, the past will catch you up as you run faster I know, I know I know, you cut me loose from contradiction I know, I'm all wrapped up in sweet attrition I know, it's asking for your benediction I know, I know I know, the past will catch you up as you run faster I know, the last in line is always called a bastard I know, the past will catch you up as you run faster I know, I know I know, the past will catch you up as you run faster I know, the last in line is always called a bastard I know, the past will catch you up as you run faster I know, I know

"The last in line is always called a bastard, the past will catch you up as you run faster" This is a truly haunting song and in the 20 years since I first heard it, those words have taken on even more resonance for me personally if anything Humans are cruel. We know that because of school bullies picking on the weak and those who do not fit in. The adult world is not much different, with the contempt for social outcasts still being very much a feature of human society that exists in more subtle forms. The mistakes you make when you are younger truly can catch up with you. A bad decision when you are younger can cost you heavily in the future, no matter how much you may look back and regret it. You may try to fight back against it and try to push things in the opposite direction but in a sense, it's always there with you.
The end of a relationship is kind like death. You have a life with someone and just suddendly, everything stops. The saddest part is that the world goes on and people go on minding their own business, without knowing the pain you feel. It's very interesting for an author to write about that.
