Thanks so much for the positive comments ! I've been in John Lees BJH for 25yrs and am always amazed by the support we get!!

Absolutely love BJH. I first heard them on late night BBC radio show (John Peel RIP) with the 'For No One' track and it blew me away. I got to see them live in 1977 (I think) and it was an epic performance. You could not distinguish the live sound from their recorded LPs other than songs were not faded out. I always felt John Lees (lead guitar and vocals) had a very unpredictable and unique style to his solos - which helped make the band stand out. I'm delighted you are appreciative this band which brought me immense pleasure for so many years.

Wow Nick you made it ! you played 'Play to The World' one of my favorite. According to BJH book "The piece leads off with some almost classical-sounding synthparts, played by Les himself. They are followed by John spacery lead guitar runs and Les's instentent piano...it must seemed as though they really were playing to the world". Well done Nick! John Less is a very talented guitar player but unfortunately he didn't get the recognition that he deserved.

Overwhelming live! They were an excellent band!! Mockingbird and Galadriel probably their best known.

Just finished the first song, and already the marathon has been worth my time. Sounded like an Asian-inspired Strawbs/Moody Blues orchestra. Playlist-bound. Gorgeous. I suspect the others will be great too. The two I am most familiar with are "Hymn" and "Poor Man's Moody Blues", and now, because of you, the lovely "Mockingbird". Thanks for showing the band some love, and thanks Jim X for the marathon.

about Paraíso dos Cavalos, Lees mention Almancil. It's on the south part of Portugal, maybe you've heard about that region, is called Algarve. So, not only is Portuguese but about a place in Portugal as well. 😊

Great choice, Nick. They're a massively under-rated band. Interesting, thoughtful, great variation and much of it quite ethereal. Check out Hymn and Galadriel. They were described as 'the poor man's Moody Blues', which they objected to greatly and wrote the song 'Poor Man's Moody Blues' as a protest. They're (to me) far more interesting and less pretentious

Rock lovers don't LOVE BJH because they sound so soft, Prog lovers don't LOVE them because they make songs, not 15 minutes suites.
I only know they produce excepcional beautiful music. Full of feeling and passion.
One of my fav bands ever.
They are not together now, but in their Last album, they left us a song called Yesterday héroes wich is simply from out of this Planet.
    Thanks for the vid.
    Great selection.
    Like and suscribe.

Thanks for mentioning my RPWL recommendations ... have seen them 3 times by now ... Big surprise in December, when 2 members of Sylvan (you did my request for them as well) and the background singer of RPWL - Caro von Brünken - released an album under the name of Violent Jasper... great stuff, I had to buy the album right away. And the other side project of RPWL - Blind Ego - will also come on tour this year ... another event to look forward to 🤘

Hi Nick, thankyou for this. I wasn't expecting this marathon to happen so soon. I'm so glad you liked the tracks I chose. Of course there is so much more I could have chosen. I would have loved to include the track, "In Memory of the Martyrs " from the album "Turn of the Tide" among a list just as long, from so many albums yet to be explored that I know you would love. These tracks I have played over the years, and never ever get tired of hearing. The albums these tracks are from are brilliant !! I hope you get around to hearing some day...Thankyou for the recommendation of the group R.P.W.L .. and yes I know them well, and have numerous albums by them. I have also been in touch with Rudi many times in the comments whenever I see him. R.P.W.L were originally a Pink Floyd tribute band whenever they did live gigs. From what I understand they started writing their own material and their albums sound very much like Pink Floyd. The vocalist & guitarist sound like David Gilmore....but of course as a tribute band they would. I highly recommend the album "Beyond Man and Time" If you love Pink Floyd this is a brilliant concept album, giving more than just a nod to their heroes in music. Thankyou so much Nick ... I finally managed to grab a marathon after a number of misses with sold out. Love to Lex. Take care, byee Jim X

Hi Jim, I hope you're doing fine. Nice selection of BJH songs, even though, if you ask 10 BJH fans, you get 10 different playlists 😆 I'm personally more a fan of early BJH until Gone to Earth, thereafter they were a bit too commercial for me. That's why I like song nr 4 best. I had seen them live in 1979, great concert... but my alltime favourite song is very unusual for BJH : the live version of Medicine Man.
Other than that, if you are interested in new music, there are 2 mixtapes on Jim Newstead's channel and I'm sure Nick doesn't mind since he was the one who once recommended this channel to me 😄 so mixtapes nr 22 and 23 are 14 new songs all of 2023 and your opinion is highly requested👍
Have a great Sunday, greetings from Germany- Rudi 👋
PS: I know you are a huge Nazareth fan, my favourite albums are all of the 70s, Razamanaz, Loud'n Proud, Rampant, Hair of the dog, then I lost track. But you won't believe, now in 2023 I finally bought Snazz, the live album of 81. Actually it's not quite as hard as I expected and the biggest surprise was the cover of ZZ Top's Tush ... I never would have thought, that any band covers this ... or maybe La Grange... I should start searching for that 😆

@@rudolfbecker4313 Hey Rudi, great to hear from you. Yes I have had Snaz for a long time. Its good, but I must admit their studio albums are incredible when you get the right ones inc all you mentioned, I love those albums. I regularly play track "Please don't Judas me" LOUD ! ....& the album "No Mean City" is one definitely worth checking out, especially the title track parts 1&2...I play that track loud many many times. I will check out Jim Newstead's mix tapes thankyou. Love early BJH but some have already been done and tho plenty yet to play, I wanted Nick & Lex to hear another side to this group, and a side I do love. Their early material live is brilliant also and "For No One" is excellent live Nick should also check out....with it's longer guitar solo at the end. Cheers Rudi, take care my friend. Jim

Hi Nick! Glad you are enjoying BJH. If you haven't played the song Mockingbird yet you should play it. IMHO it's the best BJH song. Also there is a fantastic live album, also a live video called "Glasnost" it was played at Treptower Park East Berlin in the last days of the Soviet regime. Amazing concert!

Robert John Godfrey (b. 1947), Musician. Sued BJH claiming they stole all his songs - In particular, they refused to pay Godfrey what he considered his share of royalties. This began a legal wrangle which lasted until 1995, when BJH were forced to pay Godfrey £200,000 in settlement.

Loving the second song too but they misspelled wondrous on their lyrics page. People confuse it with wonderful I guess. It may just reflect the way he sings it. Cool lyrics, nevertheless: "Under a setting sun/Spiriting shadows away/Wonderous people run/Watch as the band starts to play.
All four were prolly better than my hopefuls, so thanks again.

Sadly Nick, this BJH marathon goes nowhere near their best stuff. For No One is a decent track from possibly their best album, yet there is much better material on Time Honoured Ghosts, Octoberon and X11....just my humble opinion of course. Like many bands they somehow lost their way and ended up with a schism caused by a fallout between John Lees and Les Holroyd. I particularly remember them from the early 70s when Mockingbird was around(worth a listen as is Fifties Child).
