Next time mate try the other side of the lock where the water comes into the canal the prey fish seem to hang around there. Have you tried cranfleet lock some really nice double figured pike on both sides of lock and it fish's well when the river is in flood because the river side of lock creates a big slack for prey fish to get out of the main current plus your allowed to fish on the pontoon decking in the winter.
