- As many of you asked how I prevent the AI/CPU low cross spamming... here is how I do it!
I setup an exhibition mode against Real Madrid in Legend difficulty. This is a good way to learn how to defend against AI spam, just give the ball to the AI and practice defending over and over. It might be boring but you'll soon learn how to counter the AI.
The real answer of stopping CPU low cross spamming is a patch by Konami..
They really need to patch the AI. Getting sick of playing against low cross united
Aso, i've discovered today that "Hug the touchline" in the advanced defensive tactics helps greatly against this issue. This way your fullbacks don't move with the team, which is what creates this space on the other side of the action that the AI keeps exploiting. For exemple when the ball is on the right, your left back will stay on the left instead of wandering in the center of the pitch with a huge space behind him.
Hey dude, they do if they apply another tactic like attacking fullbacks or false fullbacks. Hug only applies when you have possession of the ball so will help when there is a turnover in play. Generally on the counter attack the AI is so easy to stop or hold up allowing players to flood back and defend. Cheers mate

what i cant manage is that when a cross comes. i got my defender well positioned. i head with the shoot button,but then my player just doesnt jump. and a com player jumps from behind th defender and heads the ball..
on low crosses i stand perfectly to block the ball but it goes betweem the legs or just through the legs

Can't play with compactness set that low, they work the ball wide but then when I cover they just pass the ball into the huge space that now exists in the middle. I'm second in the league in my ML, by far and away the top scoring team but have conceded something like 37 goals in 20 games. There are undoubtedly times when the game literally removes your ability to control your own players, coupled with some of the most ridiculous "ricochets" that end up being through balls for them; sometimes you just can't stop them scoring.
Hey dude, I went a whole season streamed and conceded something like 15 goals all season using this. You need to know when you can go wide and when to position your LB/RB in between winger and their striker. It's in my other defensive tutorial for counter attacks. Cheers bro

Spoony I heard you say at times that you use the right analog stick to select players, is that something you turn on ?
Am asking because I am only familiar with LB/L1
Great tips, looks like after the patch 1.02 the low cross is less frequent by the CPU (still a lot tho), as i like to play with only 3 on the back and my wings will almost always be exposed, i found that the advanced tactic "swarm the box" can be very helpful sometimes, as a lot of players will drop back on the area and reduce the space the AI have to shot, not 100% success but saved me a lot of times

I've found a good tactic is use R2 which is jockey!
For some reason it makes the player either turn away or make a high cross which is miles easier to defend .. at least more so!
Regardless of whether you set your tactics to combat this go wide and low cross situation, there's simply nothing you can do to stop it. 4 shots against my team and 2/3 go in, all from low crosses. I'm playing PES 2018 again
Hey dude, Check my streams? It's unfortunate that my upload didn't finish before I departed for holiday. 7 wins in a row and only 1 team of those low cross spammed. I'm adamant not every team low cross spams or people are not blocking the passing lanes. Online I low cross spam because people find it difficult to defend because they don't mark properly or perhaps they expect a high cross. I'd say 80% of my goals come from that way. The CPU is just exploiting player weaknesses. Either that or its formation clashes. Play 442 and see if you get same low cross spam...when I get home from hols I'll share formation that I'm currently using as I've barely conceded any goals.
think konami had a couple of monkey testing this game before release .waiting for them to patch this AI
Surprised no-one noticed or said anything at E3.... didn't take me very long at all to notice as seen in my video "2 things i hate about PES 2019"
i thought it would be fixed before release and was just the demo. you would think one person would notice the lack of variation from the AI, noticed some really bad tackles from the AI that would end a players career in the real world just being ignored by the ref kinda like pes 2017

Low crosses are so overpowered. Most of the times your defenders brains just shut off the moment the ball comes near them.

You have to control all 10 field player, bringing the right back from the center defense position to right back position, or the right midfielder is watching instead of defending. This is so annoying. Sometimes you don't even won one tackle and if you, it is a foul. The referee is giving for the same foul, no card for CPU and red for me.
First of all, thanks for this video. Instead of the knee-jerk reaction of "F Konami !" or "I'm going back to FIFA", you're actually doing something about your defending vs low cross. Until Konami adjusts this in a future patch, we'll just have to adapt.
Secondly, is there any other adjustments to tactics you can make to help out. In MyClub, for example, not every manager will have 2 Compactness. Will Swarm the Box work ? Would applying Wingback work ? Tight marking of the wingers, or man marking them ?
I've tried swarm the box and it works pretty well for me. Plenty of bodies in your defending area which usually results in you receiving the ball when the low cross comes in. But of course you can stop that much earlier by defending goal side and making them turn back instead
Hi mate, thank you dude. Swarm the box wouldn't work as that tucks your defenders in.... it can work due to the numbers in the box but it'll be a stamina drain on your players getting back in and packing the box. You're best off making sure you don't play attacking or false fullbacks and apply man marking.
Follow up question : how do you defend a center attack team or formation without wingers, like the 4-4-2 Diamond midfield ? Who do you mark ? Thanks again.
Don't mark, but attack down wings... don't think defensively too much, keep attacking wings and overloading by using attacking full backs!

It shouldn't matter so much but if you choose go wide but both work with this style.

Lul, I just won the treble with Club Brugge and smashed Real Madrid in the final on Superstar 4-0. I streamed it too, take a look mate. It works.
A question for you Spoony! Better your 4-1-1-4 formation for Liverpool or your recent 4-1-4-1 formation for any other 4.5/5 star team?

Spoony - when you reviewed the demo, you said the tactics were completely broken / useless. What are they like in the final game ? You adjusted the compactness in this video, so at least some of it must work, yes ? What is your overall impression of the tactics now ?
It's just the defensive line that appears broken. Everything else works better than it did in demo. Still... defensive line is quite important! Lol.

People are suffering on PC. The servers are very pathetic, and PC players are unable to log in. Very disappointed by Konamis lack of concern.
They will fix it in a patch on the 13th.

Great Spoony! I think that this year Konami has done a big mistake with us! They can't launch a game, after so many years, like so! If the game had not a physic ball and of the player so nice, I would be already passed to Fifa! :(

When you do the supercancel, do you keep pushing the bottons until you have the ball and then stop or do. you Hold Them longer and carry the ball while pushing supercancel? Also could you make a defending duels Tutorial? Which Button when and Howe Long , Howe to set up your Body... thx
Also when you position yourself to intercept a Pass and the ball is still played in your direction what du you press? You press X (passing, pressing) or Special movement or nothing at all? Thx alot

Lots of differences from PES 2018, slower paced imo - although PES 2018 felt more dynamic in terms of AI and more fluid.

the legend modes are just insane/very hard to win. they keep spamming crosses and fast tiki taka. again and again.

Can you do a tutorial about how to defend the 40+ minute corner goal?
It just happens way too often. I feel that the AI is taking 'roids each time the clock hits 40 minutes and in most of the cases they win a corner by deflection (which is unavoidable I think) and then score a header. Very frustrating.
Hi mate, any level on Legend difficulty... I found corners and set pieces very easy to prevent. Since moving to Legend, they're almost impossible to stop, just have to hope they miss the target.

@@matfejpatrusin4550 Ok, probably easier to cover this off with a video but use your right stick to select your tallest/best jump player in the team. Position just inside the near post on 6 yard box. However, if their team is lined up to train/dash and all their players look to run up from back post, position your player in the middle of the goal on the 6 yard box. Once the corner is taken and the ball is in flight half way between your selected player and the corner kick taker press SHOOT. Never try and pass or through ball. Shoot to clear and then press the player at the edge of the box as quickly as possible. Use secondary press too if another player is nearby. If you know the strong foot of that player use super cancel (see my super cancel video for more info) to direct your player to his strong foot... This will hopefully give you a greater chance of blocking. Hope this helps and good luck mate

Everytime I do super cancel.. the Ai reads my move and I consede annoying goals is frustrating...u get the point...cheers sponny
To be honest, the AI has problems dealing with super cancel if anything - it's like they can't tell 100% where that player is as you've taken them off a course they can't predict!

Hey dude, 100% they'll fix this. They fixed the AI last year when they were really passive.

Nope, it'll be fixed in Data Pack 1.0 I imagine, which will be November/December. Last year it was either December or January - but obviously this year the game was released a month early.
Your a God damm Pes genius Spoony, I ain't great at this game and my defending is awful nearly as bad as my attacking but your vids are very helpful. I just need 2 implement what I watch, it's harder than it looks though lol keep on doing what you do!

I'm sure you have already, my problem is with timing my tackles and selecting the right player at the right moment but I'm working on it. But i always seem to go 1 step forward then 3 steps backwards with my game play lol
The danger with pes is the player without the ball is the threat. Block the pass, stop the attck. The AI never do long shots

Nice work Spoony , you are really helpful! i swithed back to PES after a good ten years and your videos helped me a lot to understand the philosphy of the game. I'd like to ask you something, maybe of topic. When you pass the ball to a player and the ball for some reason (power gauge for example) goes to another player, who was not the original receiver, refuses to go fo the ball even when i press L1. i 've tried meesing around with super cancel but to no avail. have you found a solution to this? Thanks
Hi dude, thank you for the kind words mate and welcome back! Did you set anyone on a player run? If so, that player will take priority when receiving a return pass. I've noticed this, other than that, it's based on passing power. I assume you're on basic 1 passing?
Spoony Pizzas Probably this must be the case because now that i think of it i tend to press L1+ pass or Special Controls+ pass most of the time!! i was hoping there was a way to bypass this with the right stick or with COM player pressure since its funny to see them watch the ball pass by and a few meters further a teamate chasing it like a maniac! i hope they will adress this in the future!
