Jeff! I just won an Elvis Tribute contest and I have to give you credit for Helping me. I used to sing everything with chest voice, but thanks to you I can do the mix and head voice. Thank you.
These drills are awakening where my voice should be coming from. I am blending in what my ears are hearing to where in my Larynx I should be singing. It is night and day. It is a little restriciting, which is a good thing. I am syncing my hearing with my singing. I asked a question about the ears and the voice. I was out of sync on the higher notes for the tenor. I knew that I was singing the same notes. It was deceptive. I can hear and sing them together much better now with these drills. They are so very cool. Thanks, again for your help and your great Ebook.
Wow this video is such a great help! I always end up tightening up around the neck when i sing high and Ill end up getting stuck. This really loosens up my mobility.
Man... the one with the knuckle under the chin had me laughing at first cause my tongue tensed so much. I really have to fix this problem, thanks Jeff!
Hey luv your channel im a tenor and I just wanna know that why do I get that" gulpy swallow" while swallowing saliva after my warm ups or singing songs
Wonderfully helpful video. The second I did the cheek-pokey thing (oh, the petty indignities of the vocal student) I realized my jaw was WAY too involved. A whole new area to work on. Profound thanks. I'll work on it for a while, then start up yet another series of lessons with you. Did I say thank you? Oh good. Hope all is well.
Very nice video:) I have got a big jaw so your different exercises with different hand positions helped me and your larynx trick is good:) A really good lesson from your side:);)
The idea is that it releases down. If you're pressing it down, either with your tongue root muscles or fingers, you end up with muscle tension of a different kind. Not any better than if it were straining upwards.
Hi Jeff. Am I supposed to be watching my larynx during the first exercise? I tried but can't really detect anything and I'm not sure how to lower the larynx while singing? Is it that back of the throat sensation you mentioned?
Keeping the larynx low feels a bit like yawning. If you fake a yawn and watch your larynx in the mirror you'll see it depress. In the initial stages of keeping the larynx in a neutral position we have to learn to use those muscles to keep it down. By taking the jaw out of the picture (in the first exercise) it can help to focus on the muscles in question. Best, Jeff
Thanks Jeff. Any advice on what to do if my larynx is invisible? I'm male (and a baritone) but I don't have a visible adam's apple and I can't see any movement in my larynx either when doing a yawn or these exercises. Am I doomed?
Not in the slightest! If you can't see your larynx, just lightly, and I mean really lightly like barely touching, place your fingers across the front of your throat. You will be able to feel the ribs of cartilage moving underneath your lightly placed fingers. If they're moving, that is. Best, Jeff
Hi, i’m struggling as whenever i try to go up my register my larynx always seems to follow. Iv been trying for ages to find exercises that will help prevent this but i’m still getting the same results. It even happens in my chest voice. I get a feeling around my Larynx whenever i finish and it feels very worn out. This prevents me from going up higher, some notes that i can reach don’t sound right and eventually i just can’t go any higher as i choke. I don’t feel its a problem with my breathing as i think i have good support (then again i could be wrong) i’m running out of ideas and i’m constantly looking for help or advice but everything i see or try just doesn’t seem to help. It would be good if i could send a video to you to see what you think may be the problem, i don’t know if you do that sort of thing but i think it could help me out massively. Thankyou🙂
Heyo! How you doing? Its been soo long that you put this comment. But I saw it now so I'm anyways gonna reply. Actually I face the same problem too. So I'm not sure. But it yawning exercise helps a lot. And we can be friends tho since we have the same issues with our voice. 😄
with the last two exercises; my tongue ALWAYS pushes down, it's like permanent muscle memory... how do i make it stop doing this? When I sing I always have a frog throat and it doesn't look pretty :(
Jeff, do you think you can leave a link to your fan-funding account in your videos in the future? I've almost gone and made a quick donation a handful of times, but I always stop because I don't want to have to go search for your page and then search for the funding link....I think it would be a good move and you've helped me so much with your exercises, I would totally like to throw you some cash. $$$
Hello Colin! Thank you! That's very kind! The 'Fan Funding' link has probably disappeared of it's own accord because UA-cam discontinued that program. This video happens to be a bit older, and as such doesn't have any of my support links, but if now or in the future you'd like to make a contribution, here are the quick links: www.paypal.me/rolkaproductions cash.me/$supportjrolka venmo.com/Jeffrey-Rolka Thanks so much for watching! Enjoy the videos! Best, Jeff
Hi again Jeff. I've been singing the last five days every day for 50minutes to 1 hour, with about 25 minutes of wam up. I find however that I still struggle to sing all the songs for such long periods. My voice does be very fatigued afterwards. I've been doing endurance warm ups and diaphragmatic breathing warm up but I find I still find it tough. Any suggestions?
+Thomas Boyer no it's all cool now. Took a small break and I decided to lower the pitch of some of the songs I was doing. And I find it much easier to get through the hour of singing again.
+One Voice Praise & Worship Center what do you mean by resistance. By the way are you guys linked together in anyway. Like proffesionals..^^^ or are you all just replying to what I asked.
+The Mober This is great! A lot of great thoughts in all of this. Lowering the keys was a good move. If this is new material I would suggest continuing to move the keys around while you familiarize yourself with it. When the songs become second nature to sing, the original keys won't feel as high. I'm not sure what is meant by 'resistance' either. Body fatigue is one thing, fatigue around the vocal fold is another. If the latter is the case, stop and assess your posture, engagement and song keys. Practicing your melody with the lip trill is another great way to get familiar with new material without overly taxing your voice as well. Thanks for the great question!

You're welcome! Congratulations on your work and winning the award! Keep it up!
All the best,

This is so good for conditioning support. It's a real workout to keep the larynx, it requires a lot of abdominal support. Thanks Jeff
Everytime Jeff says "I hope that helps" I automatically answer: "Yes, Jeff. That helps!" And how it helps! Thanks Jeff!
Without any further ado at 2:32 😉 Thanks Jeff! 🐯

Thank you very much for the class..
You are welcome!
Thank you Jeff I did these excersizes an octave higher as I'm a soprano. Mucho Mucho Gracia they are delicious and making me strong....;>}

Anyone else feels like Jeff is listening and watching us singing while he is playing the piano?
Amazing lesson, Jeff! As always, thank you

Awesome! Indeed a little bio-feedback can really help us understand what muscles are involved and what is beneficial versus not...great work!
Jeff
Really good video man!!!
Amazing vocal coach!
Thanks!
You're welcome! Thank you for the Super Thanks!
Jeff! I really appreciate your energy!! Gracias!
Hello! You're welcome! Thank you for watching and enjoy the channel!
Jeff
Jeff, is possible to sing like liryc tenor with your tecnique?
Thank you ❤️
Very nice video:) I have got a big jaw so your different exercises with different hand positions helped me and your larynx trick is good:) A really good lesson from your side:);)
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Jeff
Hey Jeff, will these exercises help my larynx stay neutral?
That's the idea! Best wishes!
Jeff
Jeff is the best!!
Jeff. Would you recommend that I take a break from my usual warm up and use this as my warmup?
Quite possibly yes! Give it a try and talk to me about it at a live event!
Jeff
what if i press down the larynx or going way lower with the larynx?
The idea is that it releases down. If you're pressing it down, either with your tongue root muscles or fingers, you end up with muscle tension of a different kind. Not any better than if it were straining upwards.
Really helpful...thanks for posting.

Split up your practice into 2 sessions with the first session mostly warmup.
+Thomas Boyer no it's all cool now. Took a small break and I decided to lower the pitch of some of the songs I was doing. And I find it much easier to get through the hour of singing again.
+The Mober And keep building resistance with the practices.
