I am thoroughly glad you had a great day in my park. The Speelunker Cave originally opened in 1964. There wasn't a real storyline with it then... just random scenes of the Spees enjoying different activities like dancing, playing in a harp quintet and riding lobsters. I am in love with the new version like you. The log flume there was the first ever built in 1963 by the Arrow Corp who also built the Mine Train there. I hope you enjoyed your ride on my railroad.... I was your conductor for your trip talking atcha from the back. Come back and see us real soon!
This is the park I grew up with. I actually saw the Sid and Marty Krofft puppet show although it was then done by John Hardman. I remember when the Rotoriculous was being built and when it changed to the Roto Disco. And on Hallowe'en, before it was even called Fright Nights, they changed the name to the Rotohorrendous. I remember Cyrus Cosmo, Pink Things and Ooloo Fudge, LaSalle's Riverboat. It's nice to see the Speelunkers again. I have pictures of me and my sister in the eyes of the skull slide on Skull Island. I remember when Casa Magnetica was renamed The Lost Temple of the Chisos for a couple of seasons and then it would sit vacant for a couple. The People Mover Show. That guy came to our school before his residency at SFoT. Heck, I even got to ride Big Bend a few times. The Sensational Sense Machine. Missile Chaser (Scrambler), And I still have an unironed iron on from when the Shock Wave opened. Six Flags was my Imagine Nation.
I really wish Cedar fair and six flags would incorporate more dark rides into their parks. Rollercoasters are fun, but nothing beats the charm and magic of a good dark ride. They’re also a great way to get out of the sun!
Six Flags in Arlington started Lonnnng before 1981... You may want to recheck the dates on that. I remember going to Six Flags Over Texas way back in 1973. The Speelunker Cave was the place to go to when it was triple digits outside and the cool wet misting just before you went into the cold air conditioned cave riding the little boat was (IMO) the best ride in the heat beside the Log Plume ride.
Sometimes, the best dark rides are the ones not at Disney. This, Monsters, and the original Knott's Bear-y Tales among others are proof that even the non-Disney dark rides are the best.
And Jacob referring to his fans as "my friends" during the outro is so sweet! Also speaking as if we are right there: "our chariot awaits," etc. It reminds me of Mr. Rogers's approach on his show all those years ago.
Growing up I rode that mine train countless times. It used to have lights and music and sounds in the buildings when you went through. The guns from the Gunslinger are originally from a similar ride in Astroworld in Houston also called the Gunslinger.
Omg, you were here in Dallas! This is the park I grew up going to all the time. Love seeing all the new stuff as well as the classics that are still around.
The spelunkers were awesome, no doubt about it, but the highlight for me was probably the Casa Magnetica boys. You could tell just how much fun they were having. We should all be that lucky.
What a Great time I had with you at 6Flags Texas, and thrilled to see you recognized. Onward to the next adventure. As a side note I hope Jenny Penny is OK, been missing her
Glad you enjoyed my home park, it's not really my fave since they have removed so many of my fave rides over the years, especially many of the rides the whole family can ride. Having said that, I was one of the last groups to see the original Speelunker cave before they closed it forever and turned it into that ridiculous Looney Toons ride, which wasn't all that bad it just wasn't all that interesting either. So when I heard the building had been destroyed in a storm, I was still pretty sad though because I'm a dark ride fanatic and I knew Six Flags would probably stick a thrill ride in it's place. So a week ago, when I heard they had brought back the Speelunker cave, I've been chomping at the bit to make the three hour drive from Shreveport to see it, to see if it's as fun as I remembered. I have pics from the one time I got to ride it as a kid the year it closed. Cannot wait to see it for myself!!
Nice to see the Speelunkers back. I have only been to Six Flags Over Texas a few times, so long ago that i rode the original ride as a 4 year old( scared the hell outta me so i only rode it once). I also remember back then that they had a stagecoach ride featuring ghost town skeletons (similar to Boneville at Cedar Point)
Casa Magnetica brought back memories of the now defunct Opryland in Nashville, and the Angle Inn. It was a similar concept, only it had talking portraits instead of actors. If you rode Kong in Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, you were riding a rebuilt coaster from Opryland called The Hangman
Thx for bringing back memories Jacob! I haven’t been to Six Flags Over Texas since I was 12. Now 55, I remember the Speelunkers original version being like Disneylands Small World. ❤
Loved riding the Spelunker Cave back in the early 70's. It was a great way to cool off from the summer heat. Also used ride the Log Flume just to get wet and cool down. Didn't take long to dry 🥵😸
What? How did I miss this? I still dream about the original ride! I'm sixty years old, and I'm sure I haven't been in the park for thirty years... I must go back!!!
Unless I am mistaken there is also a shooting dark ride there. Six Flags is not known for dark rides but the Texas park is doing things right with a good variety of rides.
The clown in the beginning was scary funny I saw the squid hats lol, I need one of those for sure Good to see another video of yours again Carpetbagger
I think I am gonna say it... that looks better and more enjoyable then pirates of the Caribbean. It just does. Its a better smaller ride vehicle, More variety and more stuff happening per sq foot. Its fantastic.
@@gissnericBoth are decades old actually. In fact, both were finished and opened in the same decade, though Pirates opened... Five years before Spee-lunker Cave I think
@@gissneric I will also say POTC, is not decades old. It has had many redesigns and add ons and changes. At least 3 that I can remember in my lifetime (that isn't counting refurbs). They just made it more dumb and less fun every time instead of adding new imagination to it.
@@Themeparkhero It doesn't take away the essence of the ride at least for me especially with the addition of Johnny Depp's character. How is it less fun?
Loved seeing this as i am sure I will never see anything in Texas .. living in Michigan we seldom go so far away . Florida at best. We shall see...glas u liked the dark ride so much ..seeing u enjoy it 3x was nice ..have a safe journey to your next adventure Jacob
Mac and me! Id been thinking that as soon as you showed them but couldnt remember the name. The Mac and me family would love the metal straws these days.
I'm so glad amusement parks are still alive and well... I just know the time is near when they will no longer be profitable enough to stay afloat. Love to see the shows still being put on along with the people dressing in costumes.
So glad Six Flags is upping their game by adding dark rides and actually decorating their queues. I hope they continue, Over Texas really could be a really great park with some more investment. I heard they added smells to it just like the Pirate ride at Disney. Is that true?
Loved the Speelunker in the mid 80’s. Rode it many times! Did it have the little gust of cool air? We always rode it, when we got too hot. They just redressed the little guys! I totally loved this!
Glad you enjoyed one of my favorite parks! The ride has flooded at least twice now. I thought after Yosemite flooded they would have learned lesson. They should have sold Spee plush dolls. Six flags make some $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Train ride is great! Park has that old charming feel to it!
Hi carpetbagger I am a big fan of your channel the rope coming out of the horses on a merry go round is a bit and reigns they are used to keep control of the horse or direct them to where you want to go.
I haven't seen a walk around Bugs in ages! It's also refreshing to see original dark rides. I don't mind dark rides based on established properties but the original ones hit differently.
Good to see you visited our original park again! The reason for the different theming and the name six flags is because each section was intended to represent the six flags that have flown over Texas. Spain, Mexico, Republic of Texas, United States, France, and the confederacy. I’m glad to see that they brought the gun fight back. They did away with it for a while because the Six Flags park did not want to “ portray violence“. The problem is that that has been a staple for that part for the longest time.
Oh my god! I was there with you! I didn’t go up to you because I was so shy but it was such an honor to be there while you were there. I was behind you while you were recording yourself during the fireworks, I’m the one with the blue shirt sitting with my mom (pink shirt) 🫶🏻😭
The Gurnee IL location was a Marriott's Great America in the Late 70s, Early 80s. I went with my family to see The Village People while we were there enjoying the day. 😎✌️

The Speelunker is something akin to H.G. Wells's posthuman Elois - strangely comical creatures who coast on the fumes of a distant past that once bequeathed to them their present wealth and leisure, defending what they enjoy. A very excellent dark ride.

I like the one person who ballistically screamed the entire time riding the Pirate ride
Amusement parks at dusk are magical. Sensory overload with the lights, sounds and smells.
@3:31 Those straps are called reins. They're attached to other equipment referred to generally as a bridle and is used to direct the horse.
Lol a leash for a horse.
Oh, they direct the horse? Someone please tell Sterling!
I think the majority of us know this already, but thanks anyhow
My family went there back in 1964 when I was 8 years old. Lots of fun.thanks for the memories.
Six Flags Over Texas actually had their grand opening in August of 1961.
That's one of the best dark rides I've seen. Disney worthy but better cuz it's more classic
Sometimes, the best dark rides are the ones not at Disney. This, Monsters, and the original Knott's Bear-y Tales among others are proof that even the non-Disney dark rides are the best.
Bro in no way is this Disney worthy. 💀

I’m here late. The thing in horses’ mouth is a bit.
Really nice addition to the dark ride attractions Like you I just love theming and dark rides in general. Thank you for taking me along.
The “Speelunker” dark ride is already broken; the giant clam didn’t open. They also look like Zaat.
Zaat!
I really enjoy the Carousel The leather straps are called reins used to control a horse. Thank you for the informative video Jacob

Jacob is really out here with the most jacked calf muscles, that sleeper build don't play. Don't mess with the carpetbagger! 💪
I know, I always notice his calf muscles!
Thanks for this video. A lot of childhood memories from the late 70s and 80s brought back!! Definitely remember those rides! 🎢🎠🎡🚂🚡🗼🏴☠️🎇🎆
Glad to see the addition of attractions other than thrill rides! Excellent framing of the fireworks by the fountain and out in the parking lot!
Jacob you are a hard guy to keep up with. You produce so much content. Thanks 😊
Summer time fun, for sure! Your still doing a magnificent job!! 👍🏼 oh and hope you and Jenn are still together!!

The cave ride was one of my favorites rides there.
I grew up by six flags over Texas. Spent most of my summers there. Thank you f or the update
That first Speelunker coming up out of that box looked like Greedo from Star Wars!
There used to be a Speelunker that rode an Armadillo. I remember that from my childhood! Thank you Jacob for the memories!!
Looked like so much fun carpetbagger your awesome always a thrill to watch you 😊
I love dark rides, my favorite thing about any amusement park!
What? How did I miss this? I still dream about the original ride! I'm sixty years old, and I'm sure I haven't been in the park for thirty years... I must go back!!!
Where the original Spee Lunker Cave Ride was! I have read about this, seen many videos. Thanks for documenting this new incarnation of the ride! 💜👻
That pirate ride was AMAZING 👏
Loved the Casa Magnetica, it's a nice twist on the classic Mystery Hill motif.
I just loved the Pirates attraction transformation a la ET from Uni. Dark to start, then suddenly Small World, then POTC...

Exactly I was thinking WHAT .. 81 no...
As many times as I've been to SFOT, I've never gone inside any of the saloons or western buildings in the Texas section.
If Greedo and MAC had a baby, it would look just like a Speelunker
The dark ride was awesome, so much to look at but the screaming kids(nothing to scream about 🤷♀️) were distracting me! I can’t get enough of a good dark ride, ty!

Notice that during the gunfight, the guns are not actually pointed at anyone. This makes me happy!
I think the Speelunkers look like Q-Bert.
THANKS JACOP TO SEE BOTH SIDES❤❤
Omg love this crooked house
That’s a lot of Spee-Lunksrs!
I just wish Six Flags hadn’t become so expensive. 🙁 Tickets have more than tripled since I was a teenager.

Glad your visiting but SFOT originally opened in August of 1961 not 1981
Loved the dark rides❤
I am not sure but I think the tombstones were talking about former employees of the park.
for example Mike Poston may have been their heating and air tech. He kept them from freezing and roasting. Just a guess on my part.
Very astute of you. I bet you're right! 😁
Great video jacob welcome back too texas🤘🤓🤘🇺🇸
The sea monster, i call a Spee monster and that one section, i like to call Spee-ster Island.
Awesome video, Jacob
You are thinking of reins! Horses wear bridles with bits in their mouth, which the reins are attached to, to help you control the horse.
What an awesome dark ride! Sort of like Pirates of the Caribbean meets Mac N Me with a bit of Kennywood Park Old Mill too.
I remember the original Casa Magnetica and the original Cave ride. I'm happy they're back, but the originals were better. For one, Casa Magnetica doesn't have the water flowing uphill anymore. There's also a big reservoir of water to your left there too.
The fella on the train yelling at you is Marshall.
I love your shirt!
