- This time, I'm having a go at Sashiko! This is something I have never done before - Sashiko is a Japanese decorative sewing technique that uses lines and geometric patterns. It was used to stitch and decorate blue cotton cloth to make it stronger and warmer, and some of the finished pieces are beautiful. I'm not doing anything quite so grand - but I thought I'd give it a try!

Yes, I was hesitant for the same reasons, but can honestly say I love the process. The thread and needles aren't too expensive, but I would suggest practicing on an old pair of jeans! Please tag the results with my Facebook or Instagram pages - I'd love to see the results!
If you don’t give it another go, I will be gutted! What a beautiful work of art! I have just bought thread, needles and pattern templates but have been too nervous to try. However after seeing your sample piece, that will be my goal for the day.

What is that black ‘thing’ on your pointer finger?

That thing on my finger is a leather palm thimble. Basically is allows you to push the needle through several layers of fabric without injuring your hand! I also push the needle with the surface of the table, but there's a risk that the needle will slip and break if I do that.
