Yes it was fantastic, but I don't think I could play in an event like that, just too much noise to hear what was going on. It was my first time this year, and I would go again. I've been playing 40K since the 1990's, it was cool to see what everyone had created.
The "old" person that you're referring too is Ken Rolland, he's been coming to Arc40k for 15 years...and yes we also met a family who bought a ticket to watch the event because their son is starting 40k.
