Give Kel-Tec credit for designing a gun where they cut corners and innovated in other areas and came up with a 22LR that works well despite looking like the biggest POS. Go buy a G44 at twice this price and see if it can fire that many rounds without problems. Sometimes simplicity is the best answer. Having a fixed barrel is simpler and makes it more accurate.

After putting back together, I worked the slide for awhile, I remember you doing that one time. Took it to my local indoor range and shot a "cracker box" of different brand ammo. Ran across 4 duds and one get stuck, fired everything else. Wasn't enough light to pick up my front sight, but the again, new glasses might help. @@CreativeWarrior- That was the first thing I thought of when I read his comment, but I didn't respond only because it was too late since he had already returned it.
I know what the guy is talking about, but it is that some of the barrels are left a bit rough inside after rifling, so it is the rifling getting leaded! I had the same problem and cleaned the leading out of the rifling using a bronze brush and solvent, and then used a few patches with Mother's mag wheel and aluminum polish repeatedly in order to smooth out the roughness of the bore, which seemed to have remedied the leading problem.

Thanks for great unbiased review. I looked at both the Keltec and Taurus TX22 and went with the Taurus. There was something about the feel of the Keltec I didn't like, but that's jet me. I thought they were comparable pistols. Keep the review vids, coming.
Been wanting one for several years and waited too long now that WA state has a mag ban. Really appreciate you shooting and showing the different ammo, especially when we're talking about .22LR
just snagged one yesterday and took it to the range out of the box... 200 rounds, zero failures... has to be the best bargain the market: inexpensive, threaded w/tool, easy takedown to clean, three mags included, attachment point for light/laser... mine was deadly accurate from the git-go... oh, and it was 199 out the door
@@mixup98 you're welcome - oh, and i forgot to mention: even though i was shooting some dirty 22LR, when i went to clean the pistol i noticed that the mags were clean! apparently, unlike Ruger MKs, LCPII 22LRs or other 22LRs, the P17's blowback design keeps debris out of the magwell? anyhow, keep up the good work... always enjoy your vids
Fun, isn't it! As a rule, I am not a Kel-Tec fanboy, but my P17 is one of the most fun firearms I own. Reliable, accurate, lightweight, decent sights, light trigger, and the least muzzle rise of any handgun I've shot thanks to the low bore centerline and light slide. I'm happy they are building a new production facility here in Wyoming.
Just got one and I'm super happy with it. My first 100 rounds I had 2 fails going into battery, otherwise it's been rock solid and surprisingly accurate!
Thanks for the compliment, Dano. The Taurus TX22 is also a great .22 pistol, which sells for right around $300. In the near future I will make a comparison video between my P17 and my TX22 pistol.

@@blankeny Can't go wrong with the TX22 but it's definitely more of a full size. For a more compact one, the Ruger SR22 is great - and the LCP II "Lite Rack" is even more compact still.

Good morning James. Wow...I wish I could buy one for that price! Thanks for the nice comment and I also want to thank you for recently subscribing to my channel.
Just as a suggestion, when you say "I have to set up a Target real quick" you should turn away from the camera and hold out your hand in the direction of where you want the target setup and fade your Target in like how you appear in the beginning of every episode I think that would be badass
In Florida, in June I just bought 1 for $220+ tax. KelTek is offering 3 extra magazines but when you fill out the paperwork, the mags are back ordered. I haven’t shot mine yet but I will compare it to the Taurus TX22 Compact. There are lots of accessories for the Taurus but only a few for the KelTek. Great shooting and video.
I am hoping to pick up a Taurus TX22 Compact sometime this summer and doing a review on it. I will also compare it with the P17 in a separate video. Thanks for watching and commenting on my video.
@@mxfreaksI think it looks good myself. Bought one just the other day and waiting for the weekend to take it shooting along with a couple other handguns I haven't tested yet.
Very few problems with the P17 except for advanced takedown. Lot of screws!! Great bargain pistol that's dependable & accurate. Have fun with it. 👍 🇺🇸 🙏
I won't even try to take out all the screws. Put thousands of rounds of cheap dirty bulk ammo threw mine. After about 300 rounds it'll start having failure to extract problems. I spray it out with brake parts cleaner. Wipe it down with a rem oil wipe and it's back to running garbage bulk 22lr's like a champ.
Why would u need to take down ? Is ur name keltec? I’ve had mine for a while now and it’s the best 22 pistol I own both with accuracy and reliability and not to mention mag capacity and ease of cleaning
@@thephantom365 You don't have to take it completely down everytime you clean it but once in awhile it doesn't hurt to take a brush to parts that the do it all magic cleaners don't get to. And parts do break once in awhile.
I picked this gun up a few years ago at a gun store and it felt a little bit cheap to me, but it must have been the fact that it was nylon maybe and not polymer? Since then I've heard nothing but good reviews about it. Very impressive being able to stay on target shooting rapid fire like that 👍
Nylon is a type of polymer. When reinforced with glass fibers, it’s one of the stronger polymers out there. Most polymer pistol frames are made of glass-reinforced nylon.
I got my P17 about a year ago for about the same price and absolutely love it. Tons of rounds thru it and only one hiccup so far. And it is a tack driver.
I grew up shooting .22 pistols and rifles and the .22LR is still my all-time favorite cartridge. I also have more .22 rimfire firearms than any other firearms in my modest collection. I just picked up a very nice Ruger 10/22, which was made in 1977, and I should be doing a review on it in the near future.
Sorry to hear that, Five. Either I just got lucky or perhaps your friends were unlucky. Did any of your friends try Federal Auto-Match ammo in their pistols?
I know you are an excellent shot but I was surprised at how accurate that gun was being the first time shooting. I am impressed with this pistol even though it seems to be very low cost build.

Thats a great little pistol. Seeing those right now going for $159 on PSA and for $179 other sites. I'm gonna have to pick one of those up. Thanks for sharing.
I know a lot of people give crap about Kel-Tec, but I like the ones I own (Sub 2000 9mm and CMR-30), and I’ve never had a problem with them if the mags are loaded correct.
I have a Kel TEC pm-30 that I love. It's.22 mag 30 Rd mag. I always thought reloading was a waste of time. Light and accurate. I killed an armadillo with it at 50 yds. I might think about this pistol, maybe for a carrier for my daughters.
Been looking for a 22lr and this looks awesome. The sights, trigger, threaded barrel, large capacity, chews up pretty much any ammo...a lot of gun for the price. Its also quite remarkable for its size that it weighs LESS than a Ruger LCP II 22lr and Taurus PT-22 which are tiny little guns with considerably less capacity. Crazy this thing is still under 14 ounces fully loaded with 16 rounds. Definitely need to pick one up.

I've had several over the past few years, including 2 of their older PT22's. I just really liked the way this gun looked and the price point.
Great Review! Thanks Brother. I'm gonna pick one up. Have fun!
@@markedman3990 I agree with you on their innovation. I had a PMR30 for a while and loved shooting it. I recently sold it and bought a P32 for my pocket CC. The P17 might just be my next purchase.
@@deere3321 I've been very happy with mine. I too have the P32, it may be the best suited ccw I have. I wouldn't wanna get in the chest 5-8 times with 32acp! The PF9 is also been one I've carried from time to time. Good luck w/your P32 and safe shooting.
Thanks for shooting one handed, like i told you while back, i am a left arm amputee and do very well cleaning all my guns, I believe I do pretty good at the range. Own several 22s. Love them. I purchased the Taurus TX22 after seeing your video. I was impressed, had to go and bought one Sept 2024.
Good morning Alfonso. I'm glad to hear that you bought the TX22, which is a great pistol. Thanks for always watching my videos and have a great weekend.
Looks like a nice little gun . And cheaper to shoot . Thank you Ray for another good video 📹 🙏
You are very welcome Daniel and I hope you two are staying warm!
For just $225, what a bargain it is!
Great video, as always. I've always found the Kel=Tec designs to be fascinating, and this is no exception.
You and me both!
@@mixup98 I bought a USED Kel-tec 9mm P-11 pistol in the early Nineties. Thirty years and at least three hundred +P loads later it has STILL never failed in any way except for a cheapo after-market magazine! And it is STILL accurate!............................elsullo
@@elsullo2 My brother bought a P-11 about 18 years ago and I bought it from him about two years ago and it has never failed me either.
Thoroughly enjoyed your presentation of the P17. Informative, not boring and smooth. Thanks again.
You are very welcome and thank you for the nice feedback on my video.
These are great pistols. I replaced the trigger with a flat trigger from Mcarbo and got some tractiongrips which both make this pistol even better to hold and shoot.
A 22 that's easy to take down for cleaning! What a concept! Great video.
Thank you BGRob and Merry Christmas!
bought mine a couple months ago for 220$ and it's been my favorite purchase in years!!!
I can't wait to buy the upcoming Kel-Tec P15 9mm. I just love the way kel tecs look.
you rock Mixup!!!!
I bought a Maverick 88 after watching your video a few months back.
Where did you find it?
Thank you mixup98 for your review. Kel Tec P17 sound like a good shot for the money.
Good to know it's reliable. I seen one at a gun show with a matching suppressor and now that I know it functions it's on my list.
Please let us know if you get one, Michael.
I like your hat! I've always wanted a kel tec 9mm but a lot of people don't give honest reviews, but you tell it like it is THANK YOU & GOOD JOB! 👍
I've been looking for a low price little knock around 22 pistol. I think I just found it. Thanks for your video I never miss yours they're always interesting thank you.
Thank you for the nice compliment, Sam. I always try to make my videos information, interesting, and entertaining....thank you for watching them.
I carried a Kel-Tec 40 caliber when I owned my own cab. Good pistol. It didn't have a safety but it had a heavy double-action trigger pull.
Thanks for great unbiased review. I looked at both the Keltec and Taurus TX22 and went with the Taurus. There was something about the feel of the Keltec I didn't like, but that's jet me. I thought they were comparable pistols. Keep the review vids, coming.
Simplicity is greatly under rated. BLACK WOLF
Been wanting one for several years and waited too long now that WA state has a mag ban. Really appreciate you shooting and showing the different ammo, especially when we're talking about .22LR
Sounds like it's time to move to a better state.
@@pewpewTN Wife won't budge. Been trying for 3 years, Wyoming, Utah, Montanna or Texas, no go.

@@andrettski8686 Well you seem like you have your head on right, so you're doing better than most, lol.
I don't care what anyone says, I like it. The simplicity and price put it into its own cool category.
Looks like a very nice pistol has good capacity, lots of hidden features . May be the top 22 LR pistol right now.
just snagged one yesterday and took it to the range out of the box... 200 rounds, zero failures... has to be the best bargain the market: inexpensive, threaded w/tool, easy takedown to clean, three mags included, attachment point for light/laser... mine was deadly accurate from the git-go... oh, and it was 199 out the door
Heck yeah, that is what I am talking about. The P17 really is a great little pistol and I thank you for confirming my opinion 👍🤠
Building in Wyoming? No need to build a facility if they want to do sandblasting, they can just step outside.
@@sethtenrec 😆😆😆
Got my Kel-tec P17 this morning. Shoots like a dream. Loaded it with Federal and ran 3 mags full.
Awesome! That is good to hear. The little P17 shoots pretty darn good for such an inexpensive pistol. Thanks for the feedback, Mike.
Just got one and I'm super happy with it. My first 100 rounds I had 2 fails going into battery, otherwise it's been rock solid and surprisingly accurate!
Where did you find it? Price?
@@bobshelton9049 I had to order it through my local gun shop, cost about $250 All said and done.
Rural king guns $199
Seems like a great backpack pistol for long hikes and camping, especially with 22LR being so light and compact to carry.
This is the most impressive 22LR pistol I've ever seen for under $300. Good shootin' tex 🤠
Thanks for the compliment, Dano. The Taurus TX22 is also a great .22 pistol, which sells for right around $300. In the near future I will make a comparison video between my P17 and my TX22 pistol.
This gun is becoming very popular ( and for a good reason: It works well!) and has been popping up a lot on the Ol’ feed lately . I am either going to buy this one or I the Taurus TX 22. Awesome and thoroughly enjoyable video as always!
Try the Taurus TX before buying the Kel Tec, it is a better made weapon. . .
@@blankeny Can't go wrong with the TX22 but it's definitely more of a full size. For a more compact one, the Ruger SR22 is great - and the LCP II "Lite Rack" is even more compact still.
@@ka-pop2243 Ok, I was just impressed with the Taurus, and I own a ruger Mark II, a 22/45, a Browning Buckmark, & a Berreta Bobcat...
@@blankeny You aren't wrong.
The Kel-Tec does feel really cheap.
My favorite 22 pistol is the FN 502 Tactical.
@@blankeny yes but the TX22 is having slides crack too but much better overall
That's a pretty little gun. I like the no-nonsense, utilitarian look of it.
Kel-Tec makes a good product.
I'd buy one of these, but with 114 passing I'm not sure if I'll ever buy a new firearm again.
Another great video, thank you sir.
Same here, my gun, ( and ammo), buying days are over. Not going to be watching gun themed videos anymore either. Time to take up basket weaving I guess.
You can buy rifles and shotguns in Washington but handguns buys are over in Oregon unless you have a CHL. Between the income tax and 114 I am thinking it's time to leave Oregon💩
I own 4 Kel Tecs including the P17. All of them are unique in design and run flawlessly.
Good to hear....thank you William.
You recommended the G3C, and it's one of my favorite pistols. I'll definitely be getting this since it's such a low cost weapon with your recommendation.
Excellent! If you buy a P17 please let all of us know how it shoots. And yes, my G3C is also one of my favorite pistols.

Just as a suggestion, when you say "I have to set up a Target real quick" you should turn away from the camera and hold out your hand in the direction of where you want the target setup and fade your Target in like how you appear in the beginning of every episode I think that would be badass
Agreed
In Florida, in June I just bought 1 for $220+ tax. KelTek is offering 3 extra magazines but when you fill out the paperwork, the mags are back ordered. I haven’t shot mine yet but I will compare it to the Taurus TX22 Compact. There are lots of accessories for the Taurus but only a few for the KelTek. Great shooting and video.
I am hoping to pick up a Taurus TX22 Compact sometime this summer and doing a review on it. I will also compare it with the P17 in a separate video. Thanks for watching and commenting on my video.
Ugly as a gun may look, it starts looking pretty nice once it works well. Great review, Sir!
Thank you for the nice compliment Jon, and have a great Sunday.
It doesn’t look bad honestly
I personally think it looks cool, guess I'm the only one.
@@mxfreaksI think it looks good myself. Bought one just the other day and waiting for the weekend to take it shooting along with a couple other handguns I haven't tested yet.

Wow. Cheap and reliable. I've never owned or fired a Kel-Tec but they have some pretty cool ideas.
Agreed!
I was able to get one for $159 recently. Such a sweet gun. Thanks for your review!
You are very welcome and I am extremely jealous. Thanks for the great comment and have a great weekend.
I picked this gun up a few years ago at a gun store and it felt a little bit cheap to me, but it must have been the fact that it was nylon maybe and not polymer? Since then I've heard nothing but good reviews about it. Very impressive being able to stay on target shooting rapid fire like that 👍
I was going to say yes it’s the nylon
Polymer is a generic term for "plastic".
Nylon is a type of polymer. When reinforced with glass fibers, it’s one of the stronger polymers out there. Most polymer pistol frames are made of glass-reinforced nylon.
@@SuburbanRifleman I didn't know that
I got my P17 about a year ago for about the same price and absolutely love it. Tons of rounds thru it and only one hiccup so far. And it is a tack driver.
Thanks for the feedback Mike 👍😎
Loved it! I'm always looking for 22's. It's one of my favorite guns to shoot. I have more 22's then any other guns in my collection.
@@mixup98 Nice to hear that. I have been enjoying my 22's again. Maybe because I grew up shooting that too. Just plain fun.

I'm glad you had a good experience with yours, because I've had multiple friends who have had a horrible time with these things.
Once I got the rear sight adjusted I too was surprised how accurate this pistol is, especially considering the light weight.
Been kicking around the idea of getting a different training gun for the grandkids, you have me sold on this in spite of what I heard about Kel tec

Great video, as always. I have a KELTEC P11 9mm that I brought new probably 20 years ago. Thousands of rounds, never a problem. Also, it uses the easily found S&W 15 rd mags. Definitely a KELTEC believer!
Glad you to see you like this gun. I also just bought a Kel-tec P17 from RK guns, picking it up Saturday. Trying to do training with cheaper bullets, I figure it will pay for itself over the years. I wish I could shoot as good as you!

Rapid fire is unreal!

Same to you Chris and thanks a bunch!
I bought one. Had to send it back to KelTec for trigger issues. Customer Service was excellent. It now shoots like a champ. I paid $245.
I couldn't resist grabbing one for 219. been waiting a long time for these to become available.
Thanks for sharing this review. I'm impressed. It seems to be worth of consideration.
