    I find cheaper banjos typically have a warmer sound, which is more what I enjoy to hear when I'm playing it. Though most banjo lovers like the brighter sound

    crazy that most don’t know the banjo is an African originated instrument

    • @ElderlyInstruments
      @ElderlyInstruments  5 місяців тому +2

      It's a crucial point that's often overlooked. The banjo's African origins are an important part of its history and of American roots music. As a Black-owned business in the music industry, we're committed to honoring and highlighting these roots.
      We're glad you mentioned it, and we invite everyone to join us at the Fort Worth African American Roots Music Festival next month in Fort Worth, Texas. It's a celebration of Black influence in roots music, featuring an incredible lineup of artists. More info can be found at www.fwaamfest.com. 🪕✨

    Banjo newbies….go play some banjos before you consider buying one of these Deerings. There are so many better options in the same price point (see Gold Tone) that will make you much happier.

      Hi there I have a goldtone ob special 250 that I absolutely love. I am currently travelling in south america with a deering goodtime Americana and I have to say this thing is amazing. Been traveling for 8 months and it has been tough. Planes trains and automobiles. From the sea to the Andes and it's still playing perfectly. I have learned claw hammer on this trip and I'm very happy with this banjo. I love gold tone too but this is a great instrument and it was very affordable. Just my 2 cents! Thanks

      Can't agree. I have two banjos and the Goodtime is my favorite.

  • @Reginald-Montgomery-Astird-III

    Goodtime banjos, I hate to say, are incredibly overrated.
    They’re main selling point is that they’re made in America, which I do appreciate, nonetheless this line comes up short. Nothing against the company, if you have a few hundred more you can get one of their artisan models which are awesome.
    Go with Gold Tone if you want a value, they also make good higher end models too, you almost can’t go wrong with the company.
    Most importantly and if your new keep in mind there’s a lot of snobbery in banjo picking, often times the models you’re being told are best are either extremely overpriced or based on name recognition alone. These people are losers.

    • @easypeasy2938
      @easypeasy2938 10 місяців тому

      @@Johno143 nope. In frailing, the index fingertip is used for up-picking melody, and the middle fingernail is used for rhythmic downward brushing. In clawhammer, only downstrokes are used, and they are typically played with one fingernail.
